The emotional expressive power of this performance shows the utter difference between performance and a studio recording. this one I feel deep in my soul.
That final note... I actually held my breath, getting goosebumps and shivers down my spine. Absolutely beautiful. I find if that final note isn't held, with the music swelling behind it, it doesn't have the power... but this, oh this was PERFECT.
From someone who has seen this production twice, including the original Broadway cast, I am beyond impressed. Any mistakes made are still executed so wonderfully and the recovery is fantastic. And the makeup might be among the best I have ever seen. Amazing performance!!
I'm actually impressed when I see someone miss a lyric or line and soldier on flawlessly without pause. It takes a skilled person to sing a 'perfect' song, but an incredible person to beautifully and easily recover from a mistake and finish well.
My son will be auditioning for the part of Beast in a local community theater. I gave him the link to this video to use as a reference to show how one should truly capture the emotion of the song.
Stig...love...SUCH the inspiration. Words fail your impression on performance and performers. Bravo. It's simply astounding there isnt more of you on RUclips. Bravo!
I don't think a lot of people realize how difficult it is to keep it together onstage when you realize you've messed up the lyrics, and you did an amazing job of not visibly reacting in any way and staying in character. Truly sublime performance! I'm playing Beast this April and I go to bed every night praying that I sound like this come showtime. Great job!
This id probably the best version of this song I've heard on youtube. Great job :-) This is my favorite song in the whole musical and you did it justice. Love the makeup and costume, by the way.
Well thanks very much! Thats a nice thing to stay. I always wondered wether I should post this clip online at all! Just my luck that the only time I fluff lyrics is the night the show is being filmed.
You're the first I've found that sings as beautifully as Terrence Mann. No one else I've listened to could compare to either of you. Thank you so much for the beautiful masterpiece!
This was great, you only messed up twice and you kept it alive so well and it was so fluid that it was hardly noticable to anyone who didnt know any better. :D
This is fantastic, I'm so moved by how you sing every word. So many times its done without giving me chills and you gave me it. I was casted as the beast for my high school's production and I was wondering how you were able to be so fierce and shouting and screaming while keeping your voice intact! Amazing job again man :'D
His singing is beautiful and spot on, even if he does mess up some lyrics. He's a great Beast. Beast is a difficult character to fully understand and properly portray, and this dude does a great job.
Ha you can't even tell you missed the lyrics. I only noticed her because I know the show like the back of my hand when I played Belle. Bravo sir you are truly amazing! I've never seen someone transition dropped lines like that! Very Professional and skilled! Love it Love it Love it!
Good points, yes it's not a love song more like a lament. My favourite song in the musical. He's realizing his fatal mistake and has given up. I really felt sorry for the Beast in the musical because they have a sadder side to him
I didn't even catch the missed lyric!! This was amazing!! Whoever did this is amazing. I speak for everyone else seeing this, when I say awesome job! I wish I could be in this!!
Good recoveries from the lyric slip ups. Most of us performers have had to do it at one time or another and it's not much fun.Good interpretation. One of the few beasts that actually understands the script. This is not a love song!!!!! The beast does not love Belle at this point. But he realises that if "HE CAN'T LOVE HER"....then he will run out of time and the spell can't be broken...."HER"...could be anyone...But it just happens to be Belle as she is in the castle at this time.....Well done.
You did a great job on this song, despite some lyric mistakes. This is my favourite song and you really do it justice. I saw it with my grandmother back in 1996 for my grade 8 grad present. This is a tough song
I've had a "thing" (if one can call it that) for this song, since I saw the Danish version of this musical at Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen in 2005. This is one of the best versions I've heard of the song, so this is going directly into my favorites tab in my browser.
this make up is actually believe it or not closer to the original 1994 Broadway/London make up design, where we could connect with the actor's face. In later productions/tours/amateur interpretations, the beast make up is basically a full on mask, closer to the animated design.. I love this make up design. Budget or not, it's very professional! Well done. And great vocals, too! :-)
70% is how you look, 28% is how you sound, 2% is what you say. You looked good and sounded amazing, a dropped lyric or two means nothing. Good show my fellow Beast! I can only hope that I sound half as good as you for my own rendition.
I have to agree with the poster below. This I actually much prefer this makeup to many others I've seen and this is a fantastic rendition of the song. I've seen the show during it's run on Broadway and have seen it off Broadway twice. I don't remember the name of the "beast" I saw on Broadway, but these vocals certainly equal them and it's puts the off Broadway productions I've seen to shame. VERY nice job.
at 3:05, i got mad chills! you are the first person on here to that! you have the most powerful beast voice ever! i love it! this is one of the best versions on here! great job! =)
@Seansterr13 LOL thanks dude! actually not as many as you think. Everybody has bad days. This is the only time in the entire season that I dropped a single lyric. I've seen even the biggest stars and the most seasoned professionals make lyric slips or even worse. And for the record is not a professional company. But appreciate the comment either way!
@ausguy73 Ignore the people ranting about the lyric slip ups. You still pulled off a GREAT performance in this video, and stayed in character and vocals were excellent. Thats all that matters! You didnt show that you slipped up, so if people DIDNT actually know the lyrics, technically you wouldnt have. Brilliant Job! :D
What a fantastic rendition. I run a theatre company in Belfast and we're putting on a production of Beauty and the Beast at Christmas, if we can match this I will be very happy. Well done sir, a fantastic performance!
captaintaco2345 If the Disney team only took the script to the stage the way it was, from the animation, it would not give the actor the fuller part. A couple of scenes where added to further expand the role.
Wow! Can't believe I missed this one! I saw RMS' last year, was brill. Well done for B&tB though, it was very impressive- its one of, if not the best song in the show. Just wondering who provided your wigs and mask? Looked awesome! :)
@ausguy73 sorry my eyes fliped i thought your comment said lip sync. so so so so sorry. awesome job if thats you in the video, and for my ignorence. :-)
@ausguy73 I totally agree! I was just in a musical for 11 weeks and I messed up on my song one day. I felt horrible! I thought to e in performing arts you have to e perfect but you proved to me that it's fine to make slip ups sometimes! And you have an amazing voice and I didnt even notice. I have an audition of Friday and i was hoping you could give me a few idea audition songs.? PLEASE! I'm a girl and i would like them to be disney or broadway because the play is Mulan! THANKS!
Dude, how do you do Beast without wrecking your voice before this amazing performance?? I hear some guys with really gravvly voice when they say his lines, but then it affects their song. How did you go about Beast's dialogue?
Wow, this isn't a professional company!? BEAUTIFULLY done my friend!!! Wow...... Do you think maybe I could send you a version of me singing it? I'd REALLY like your opinion... You're amazing, and I'd love to hear what you think.... I change the end of the song.. Instead of an F, I take it up to an A.. Then Bb and then I slide down and sustain the F... Can I send it to you?? :)

That voice is so good It is mighty and fitting with the character and the the person
I'm actually impressed when I see someone miss a lyric or line and soldier on flawlessly without pause. It takes a skilled person to sing a 'perfect' song, but an incredible person to beautifully and easily recover from a mistake and finish well.
Then you are seeing real theatre . It happens all the time. And some of the most famous performers do it all the time.
Bravo!
This is my favorite version of this song, such expressiveness, emotion, meaning conveyed so powerfully, it makes me cry every time.
Whooo what a voice talent whoever is the person is very talented. Best beast character this beast deserves the best album and arwad
Great job!
That's the magic of working onstage. It's a make or break deal and he made it! Fell in love with that voice by the way.
This id probably the best version of this song I've heard on youtube. Great job :-) This is my favorite song in the whole musical and you did it justice. Love the makeup and costume, by the way.

beautifully sung
You're the first I've found that sings as beautifully as Terrence Mann. No one else I've listened to could compare to either of you. Thank you so much for the beautiful masterpiece!
I've watched this about...5x already and everytime I just sit here speechless and my jaw drops. Fantastic job and good job covering the missed line :)
This was great, you only messed up twice and you kept it alive so well and it was so fluid that it was hardly noticable to anyone who didnt know any better. :D
Oh my god that final note sent shudders down my spine! WONDERFUL!!!!
omg what a beautiful voice he gave me goose bumps best I've heard
It's always amazing how the local theatre companies in Oz put on great performances - disciplined orchestra, hits the F on the spot, well done!
Freakin amazing!
You are a beautifully moving singer and actor. I felt your turbulence, your confusion and frustration... your realization. Amazing!
*in awe* Oh, what a beautiful set.. what a gorgeous costume/make up job.. such fantastic singing.. :') makes me proud to be a Theatre major.
This is such a beautiful performance--I had goosebumps by the end! Thank you for sharing this.
This is fantastic, I'm so moved by how you sing every word. So many times its done without giving me chills and you gave me it. That was really awesome ! Nice pit as well ! (and the fact that the name of the actor playing the Beast is Bell... well that made my day !)
Thanks - and congrats your one of the few to pick the lyric slip! Yes and of course it was on the one night it was being filmed LOL
I had tears in my eyes my friend. This is truly great I can't say it enough!
Good points, yes it's not a love song more like a lament. My favourite song in the musical. He's realizing his fatal mistake and has given up. I really felt sorry for the Beast in the musical because they have a sadder side to him
I am almost NEVER impressed with anything on RUclips... I'm impressed!
This really gives me some inspiration as I was casted for Beast last wednesday!
I didn't even catch the missed lyric!! This was amazing!! Whoever did this is amazing. I speak for everyone else seeing this, when I say awesome job! I wish I could be in this!!
So good!! Gave me chills

I'm working on this piece myself, man it's demanding, and that plus the rest of the show... *whew* I'm not there, great job!

It was very beautiful. :-) Keep singing!

You are brilliant! I have played have the Beast also! Excellent!
Quite a few vocal slip-ups, actually. Regardless, probably the best rendition of this song that I've ever heard on youtube.
Thanks so much. Such a nice thing to say!

I agree Bella.
Powerful performance -- amazing emotion expressed in the voice as well as physically. Made me cry! Who is this actor? I hope he does more roles.
@Seansterr13 LOL thanks dude! actually not as many as you think. Everybody has bad days. This is the only time in the entire season that I dropped a single lyric. captaintaco2345 the movie was made before the musical
captaintaco2345 If the Disney team only took the script to the stage the way it was, from the animation, it would not give the actor the fuller part. A couple of scenes where added to further expand the role.
Wow! Can't believe I missed this one! I saw RMS' last year, was brill.

When he messes up, it sounds like "nothing will eat me".
@ausguy73 I totally agree! I was just in a musical for 11 weeks and I messed up on my song one day. I felt horrible! @RandomHighSchoolKid Hey, I didn't know the lyrics when I stumbled onto this and I thought it was amazing!
Dude, how do you do Beast without wrecking your voice before this amazing performance?? I hear some guys with really gravvly voice when they say his lines, but then it affects their song. How did you go about Beast's dialogue?
@ProdigyStepper what do you mean?
Wow, this isn't a professional company!? BEAUTIFULLY done my friend!!! Wow...... Do you think maybe I could send you a version of me singing it? I'd REALLY like your opinion... this is good even though the lyrics are a lttle messed up.
@ausguy73 Look up Earl Carpenter. Amazing singer, but not always on top of the lyrics. This was amazing. Don't let people say otherwise.
it's called doing things on a budget Jasper :-)
Oh my...what magnificent lung capacity you have O.O
@ausguy73 haha i picked up on it due.... i slipped up the same place when i was the beast one of the shows...
at the start about 45 minutes. Got it down to about 20 by the end
Who is the singer?!
To start out about an hour. But got it down to 30 minutes. Thats with a make up artist.
@furrylilfucker Thanks alot!!
@hitokage4 Exactly my point! :D
белль ушла Адам. страдает но она вернётся и станет его женой навсегда они будут вместе
*in awe* Oh, what a beautiful set.. what a gorgeous costume/make up job.. such fantastic singing.. :') makes me proud to be a Theatre major.
