I absolutely love the fact that Terrence Mann performs as the Beast for the majority of the show but is still able to perform the part of the Prince at the end. I really think it rounds off the character and I know it was probably difficult for them to figure out how to do it. Great show!
My high school did BtaB for a musical one year and we actually had two actors for the transformation scene. One for the moment the Beast was dying and after the transformation. We covered the stage with fog and two stage hands rotated a set piece, which gave the actors enough cover and time to swap places. It wasn’t as amazing as the original Broadway version (which almost always gets a round of applause) but it was still well done.
It opened on Broadway 23 years ago, today. And I watched this (again) right now and a happy (nostalgic) tear ran down from my eyes. It will always be my favourite Broadway musical. I was lucky enough to watch it as a kid on NYC in 1994 and loved it. There are many great (even better) ones. But this will always have that special place in my heart.
JackieSchuster Oh my god I see it now! I can't really see the cast but I can see she's not moving her left arm much and is being very careful with it. That's a real actress and trooper!
You can really see it when she turns from Maurice to Adam in the finale. Look right by her hand. But her shawl thing covers most of it in the scenes lol
We did this at our school this year and we went through helll and back, wardrobe was pulling all nighters, our lefou got a concussion, and our beast, who had recently gotten leg surgery, got injured.....TWICE. Once on the night of dress rehearsal! Thank god everything turned out ok and everyone put on a marvelous production!
I didn't get to see him perform as the Beast, but I did get to sing with him in Indianapolis in a Pops Concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra singing music by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (with them there as well). He was absolutely amazing. I had goosebumps when he sang "Stars" from Les Miserables. I wish he could have sung music from Beauty and the Beast, but alas, that did not happen.
N Crafts I have to be honest, but Ramin wouldn't be a good beast only on account that Ramin is a dramatic Tenor where as the role of Beast calls for a pure Baritone, someone who can hit both Tenor and Bass notes. If there wasn't that kind of handicap on the Beast, i would love to see Ramin take on that role.
Nathan Deane oh, heck yes. That needs to happen. It would be so amazing. Now, I would love to see Sierra Boggess as his Belle. That would be amazing too.
I'm sorry, but NO ONE can beat Terrence Mann as Beast/ Prince Adam!!! I've heard his version of "If I can't love her" every night before going to sleep for the last 8 years and it always moves me and calms me like the first time I heard it!!!! And I don't know why, but I would love to hear Avi Kaplan singing this song!!!
Happy 20th Anniversary Beauty and the Beast Broadway!! It was my first Broadway show and I will never forget it. I was on a 5th Grade Class trip and sitting 2nd row orchestra. By the end of the show, this was where I knew that wanted to be on Broadway. This show shouldn't have closed!!! Broadway Revival ASAP!!!!
One of the most elaborate Tony performances, and one of the greatest Broadway shows of all time (I'm kind of biased because BatB is my favorite Disney Movie) The music, costumes, and dancing is SO AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL
Howard Ashman(1950-1991, R.I.P.), who was the executive producer of the movie and the writer of the lyrics to ALL it's songs, would've been so proud of this and would've loved to have worked on it. I wonder if making this into a Broadway musical ever occurred to him at the time? It's ironic because he was a Broadway producer and he basically made the rough draft to what became a great Broadway musical! Howard always put the feeling and theme of Broadway into all the Disney movies, he worked on!
I’m glad Gavin Lee (Lumiére) and Nigel Richards (Cogsworth) did that in the UK Tour! I guess Emma Caffrey (Plumette) should’ve responded with an OK 👌 sign.
Remember when NBC recently aired that live version of The Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood? I hope Beauty and the Beast is the next musical to get a live broadcast. They should get Santino Fontana to play Gaston because of how he recently voiced that evil Disney prince in Frozen with Josh Gad playing Lefou because they sound alike. Don't forget it's the show 20th Anniversary of when it originally premiered.
MrPoochsmooch Yeah and with Disney's Aladdin coming to Broadway shortly, they should celebrate this occasion by airing a televised version off their very first Broadway musical. They should also get Joel Grey to play Maurice, Belle's father; Ben Vereen(star of your favorite childhood show, Zoobilee Zoo) as Lumière, and Victoria Clark as Mrs. Potts.
"Certain as the sun Rising in the east Take as old as time Sun as old as rhyme Beauty and the Beast Tale as old as time Song as old as rhyme Beauty and the Beast"-Howard Ashman
When I saw this at Golden Gate theater a few years ago, while Lumiere did have real flames appear on his costume, the "Be Our Guest" sequence was a tad diluted compared to other scenes and Beast didn't have his cape-but the actor playing him just knocked it out of the park for the "If I can't Love her" number. In the prologue scene I think the enchantress was a puppet but due to the screen in front of the stage it was hard to tell. The guy they got to play Lefue seemed to have the ability to defy gravity-he pulled off a full forward midair somersault! And did some impressive acrobatics for the "Gaston" song. Gaston was just HILARIOUS in the first act I vaguely recall him doing a little leaning on the fourth wall while popping the question to Belle by looking at the audience as if saying "I got this." And Beast had a few funny moments as well, "DEEP BREATHS MASTER DEEP BREATHS!" then he and the servants all huddling together for that and then him running back and forth across the stage repeating the line: "Be a gentleman, be a gentleman." with a tray of covered food. The one that made me laugh the hardest was his one liner of "It's very...purple."
I am so obsessed with this. First ever live stage show! I saw Erin Dilly as Belle in the tour, I wish the entire show was recorded like this. I want to remember it all!!!! If it weren't for this show I never would've gotten into musical theatre like now!
If this doesn't get a revival after the live action movie, I think I'll cry. This is my favorite Disney movie and Beast is my favorite Disney character, but I've never seen the Broadway show! 😢😢

Its Terrence Mann in both. Be Our Guest and If I can't Love her are both pre recorded So Susan Egan was given enough time to change right after Me by Gaston
On broadway, the moment the castle turns around for the balcony fight scene with Gaston and the Beast, a stunt double is swapped for the beast to fight Gaston while the real actor changes. at this point, the beasts voice is prerecorded. The moment the beast is stabbed, the castle turns around to reveal the beasts room. the actor returns with a prosthetic mask and cloaked body hiding the lift so when the transformation happens all the actor has to do is whip off the mask and presto he's a prince.
c_vee12 I totally didn't know that, I'm not obsessed with her or anything. Nope, not one bit *hides merchandise, covers posters* Not obsessed at all😂😂😂
I always loved the "Be Our Guest" part. Even though this idea wouldn't fit in the Broadway play, I think it would've been neat at the end of the play, a man and woman come to the castle and ask if they can spend the night. At first Cogsworth would think they can't let them stay because the master doesn't like visitors but then the prince welcomes them in saying they're welcome in his castle. The prince would tell the servants that he has guests and wants them to feel welcome. He tells them to prepare a room and to prepare dinner for them. Lumiere would tell the prince, "But Master, what is dinner without a little music?" The prince would agree. So they perform "Be Our Guest"(again) for the man and his wife and this time, Belle and the prince join in the singing and dancing. It would just show how much the prince has changed.
@@zevlevy5902 Well, I know it is, I've seen the Broadway musical. I meant as like a repeat performance of the song at the end where the master welcomes visitors and tells his servants they have guests and wants them to feel welcome but I know that idea would not fit in to the musical or the movie for that matter.

Beauty and tne Beast is magical!
wow,thanks!
I love this video with the atcers in this video who play in the Beauty and the Beast on stage
Actually Be our Guest is in the broadway musical :)
@@zevlevy5902 Well, I know it is, I've seen the Broadway musical. I meant as like a repeat performance of the song at the end where the master welcomes visitors and tells his servants they have guests and wants them to feel welcome but I know that idea would not fit in to the musical or the movie for that matter.
the fireball still gets me...
I wish they'd release the show on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Good Lord I wish this was still on Broadway...so beautiful and magical.
ok but I played Belle in ny schools production and you know how Belle sings the harmony in the finale? that note is IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND
This is the most glorious thing I've ever seen!
