Anakin at the beginning of the clone wars: killing is a last resort that should be used in dire situations Anakin at the end of the clone wars: These hands rated E for everyone
I hate how he became Vader. But it has his destiny to become Vader. I watched the whole series of TCWs, twice actually, and every time I was hoping he would NOT become Vader. Sure, Vader is a bad mofo, but he did not deserve that life. He lost so much, it's hurtful. I hope they bring back Anakin in Episode IX, since they're bringing back Emperor Palpatine. Anakin was supposed to be in Episode VII, or VIII, but they canned it. Nah, man, bring him back. Not Vader, but Anakin, the Chosen One!
@Tyrese Bibbs And Ashoka is a little like Rin. I mean, she isn't dead, but her leaving the Jedi Order was one of the reasons Anakin changed. Just as Rin's death was for Obito's change.
War brings out the worst in people, they sometimes have to do terrible things to win or to stay alive. But when fighting monsters one has to be careful to not become a monster yourself, or the abyss will consume you.
@@joseluis5055 This is why luke in the last jedi felt like the jedi needed to end. The jedi orders ridiculous rules went against common sense and caused many jedi to inadvertently join the dark side, it happened with dooku and later anakin and after that kylo ren
Have you watched the 2d clone wars series? There's an analogy where a hero in a tribe uses some dark force to help his own people...eventually that force increased every time he used it until it was too late, before he noticed that very same force killed everyone but him.
And every time he did, he took one more step towards the Dark Side. And when he was at last consumed by it, Vader killed countless more than those Anakin saved. Do You see now why the Jedi warn so strongly against straining from the Order's Code?
@@kapitan19969838 Except light side of the force and Jedi Order are 2 different things. One is the actual force itself and the Jedi Order is a governance of light side users. The Jedi Order insists on having no feeling ever, you're not allowed to love, you're not allowed to care, you're not allowed to step outside of their laws, everything is purely governed almost by a flow chart, which leads to people hating them. The dark side is like pure emotion, and the light side is like pure machine, if you have all one and not the other then you're doomed to fail.
The sand-people are effectively wolves, they don't care about anyone not of their kind and will slaughter them, Padme understood this, and helped Anakin.
Anakin: *The Chosen One, meant to bring balance to the force, is an emotional wreck half the time and needs some confort more often than not* Jedi Order: That's not the Jedi Way Anakin: *turns to the dark side* Jedi Order: *surprised pikachu face*
Zechariah Kouns Right? Like absolutely no sympathy regarding his hatred and anger towards slavers. Like that’s just stupid especially when anakin is as powerful as he is
yoda could see his descent into the dark side of arrogance, anger, growing cruelty, hatred and greed as did others. Not once ever did any of them pull anakin off from the war to coach him in dealing with his traumas so it doesn't destroy him. Nor did they teach him to deal with his PTSD over his slave upbringing to his mothers death to full scale wars. Yoda and obi wan are just as responsible for darth vader as darth sidious was. Inaction is just as guilty as the temptation. Think of how different he would have turned out with a year of healing meditations and guidance to forgiveness/mental recovery after the death of his mother instead of throwing a unstable super powerful Jedi into war.
@@dylan56789ful I think in the end both Yoda and Obi-Wan understood that. They both took a responsability in the becoming of darth vader, in the fact they did not help anakin when they should have.
Anakin has been a slave for his entire existance, never a master himself, until his death. Born into slavery. When he became a Jedi and thought he could say goodbye to his life as a slave, he still ended up with people who told him what to do and what to think. And even though everyone kept saying how great his skills are and how he's the "Chosen one", he was always seemingly pushed down. It must've been the part where he was declared "part of the council, but denied the title of Master" that must've really cemented in his mind that he was never gonna be free at this rate. I believe that's why he desired the rank of Master so badly. Palpatine always gave him the impression that he deserved more than he was given and often "helped" him make decisions for himself, giving only more reason to trust him over the Jedi Order, which was clearly flawed. Sadly, it was all a trick and he ended up once more being a slave to a master. Darth Vader must've delusioned himself to be bigger than he was or accepted that he was forever doomed to be a slave from begin to end. "When I left you I was but the learner. Now, *I* am the master." "Only a master of evil, Darth."
Excellent analysis! Additionally, it was his attachments that helped him get through his struggles. He ended up relying on them too much, which only aided in his being tricked by Palpatine.
Also the fact Palpatine groomed anakin from a young age. Anakin needed a father figure, Obi-Wan was like a brother, Palpatine gave anakin that father role. also the Jedi had lost their way, when Anakin told Mace, "this is not the jedi way". Mace told him we need to kill the Sitting representative to the Republic because he was too dangerous . Anakin was like well this is the same shit and went full Sith.
Should have kept his mouth shut I never liked Clovis... it was very satisfying when Anakin dropped him. Yes I’m aware Clovis let go but let’s be honest... Anakin made no effort to save him. Can’t blame him.. would have done the same Clovis falls Padme: Anakin use the force Anakin: what’s the force? Padme: ............ Anakin: oh right.... Clovis dies Anakin: ....welp... that sucks. Oh well.
11:05 I just realized - Anakin’s rest on Mortis was to force both the Son and Daughter to free both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka - but Anakin took it further and forced them to bow, signifying dominance over them. That was not the test. The test was whether he could liberate, not dominate. 🤔 But no one - not the Father, Obi-Wan or Ahsoka - seemed to notice.
Actually he did stop at making them let them go, aside from the force throw. It was only after they kept attacking his loved ones he resorted to domination. Which I think is a better summation of Anakin's character
I have to say how I love that during Obi-Wan's death arc Anakin goes around looking all evil and shit... And Ahsoka is right behind him looking like a pissed off puppy. She couldn't be evil even if she tried.
I think Obi-Wan’s death then being told that he was alive and everyone but him knowing about it was like +50 anger points to him then Ahsoka leaving was like +100
Notice how even when anakin turned to the dark side he still had a caring voice for Ahsoka? Even as Vader he never hated her. But he knew he had to try or to actually kill her to release his pain of her
Ok let's be real. Everytime Anakin has genuine trauma and needs help the jedi told him to bottle his feelings. Of course he was destined to explode. His only solice in life his friends and wife yet he lost them all. Tragic
And they knew he began his training at a later age than any other Jedi so they should have expected he would need extra help learning how to control his emotions. This was their entire reservation about accepting him in the first place and yet when they did, they made no effort to address this concern.
That's part of the bigger problem. Emotions in themselves are a path to the Dark side, but they aren't the Dark side. But the Jedi dogma puts them as such. The Jedi inherently cannot serve the living Force this way because all emotions dark or light are inherently aspects of the living Force. The Jedi lost their connection with the living Force, became stagnated and served the Senate over the living Force and they were destroyed. The Sith corrupt the force and are considered a cancer and were destroyed also.
You know if Anakin was in Mortal Kombat 11 it would be very therapeutic for him because it let his anger and rage out on the MK fighters and guest fighters
Anakin's emotions were like a clock bomb. He clearly suffered tremendously from his childhood and the death of his mother, yet no one helped him in the order except for telling him to forget about his emotions, add that to the continous stress of war and ther you have it, a jealous, irascible and tormented man.
Exactly. The Jedi's Buddhist-like denial of one's self, one's emotion and passions, only works if you're born into it, and sometimes not even then. Anakin's soul was born into the fires of tribulation and suffering and made to feel impotent, worthless, and unimportant by everyone except his mother and a few friends until the age of 9. Because of this, his ego constantly craved satiation (especially after the revelation of the Prophecy and his powers, which were said to potentially be beyond any other Jedi), and no wonder he would have such a strong emotional attachment to his mother, to Padme, the only lover he'd ever known, to Ahsoka, one of his best friends and his only pupil whom he believed the Jedi had betrayed and failed, and finally to Obi-Wan, his best friend and mentor who he ultimately came to see as merely a puppet of the organization and ideology that had failed him, his loved ones, and the galaxy. Failed him because they told him his emotions and desires had no value in comparison to the responsibility he'd been given in bringing balance to the force, a responsibility he had never chosen, making him feel like a slave all over again. Failed him because instead of acknowledging the validity of his emotions and making him feel valued while ultimately trying to help him move past them and find a sense of peace, or at least be able to maintain control over them, they treated him like any normal Jedi student and basically just told him "emotion bad, serenity good," and chastised him whenever his emotions got the better of him. Qui-Gon perfectly understood that this was the wrong way to go about things and I feel that if he had trained Anakin, he would have turned out very differently. Then you add in to the mix a figure like Palpatine, another older, seemingly kindly mentor figure to Anakin who stoked the fires of Anakin's misgivings and doubts about the Jedi, who stroked his ego, who promised him what the Jedi could not deliver. It was a really masterful job on Palpatine's part. Finally, you add to the mix a terrible galaxy-wide war and the constant battles, and it's no wonder that Anakin turned out the way he did. When you really think about it, while Anakin still bears ultimate responsibility for everything he did and chose, he was as much a victim as he was a perpetrator.
My life is as much like as him, I'm alone and no help from anyone and I'm afraid that I will join the dark side... I don't want it but I feel I can't already resist to my anger inside of me..
Love how toward the end of the series it really highlights the emotional turmoil she goes through and how deeply it affects Anakin. I think if everything that happened with Ahsoka & the council went differently he wouldn't have fallen from the light side as he did
Anakin’s gradual descent into the dark side is honestly pretty tragic. You can see his friends and fellow Jedi are noticing that he’s slipping but only he can save himself.
It seems Anakin tends to develop very strong attachment to the women in his life, I think it may have something to do with him living with his mother his entire childhood, and the way she died.
I concur, but not only to women. He had a very strong attachment to Obi-Wan, which is why he felt so betrayed after their duel, and he grew a very strong attachment to Palpatine as well, who he viewed as almost as father figure at times.
Hayden Christensen is understated for his portrayal of young Vader! His intensenity and hatred of the sand people is perfectly displayed, and Anakin's dark side becomes very clear!
I've always thought it was Padme's reaction, or lack of one really, that made the scene so damn funny. Like, she just does not care she's totally check out 🤣
@@VadWalker66 You're right, and imo the only way to excuse the scene is to head canon that Anakin was using the force on Padme making her not view it as an awful act
Anakin was every time near to the dark side because he wanted to protect all his people he loved, in nearly every moment when he is angry he wants so save his people
Also he wasn't able to let people try to sort things out themselves. Especially when it came to Ashoka. He had attachments which made him not think rationally and clearly. The way of the Jedi is similar to that of a Buddhist monk in terms of their attitude towards 'worldly possessions and attachments'
When you rewatch this show, you realize even Padmè lead Anakin closer to the dark side. Not only her whole BS with Clovis, but their differing views on the war and Palpatine to the point where even he believed Padmè turned against him. It’s honestly no wonder Luke was the only one to bring Anakin back, aside from his mother, Ahsoka, R2 and 3PO, he’s the only truly positive relationship he’s ever had.
@@garyfrombrooklyn All I'm saying is saying only one gender does one thing is a sexist statement. I've seen both men and women use this tactic. It's not just women or just men.
Obi-Wan: A great leap forward often requires taking two steps back. Anakin: And sometimes all it requires, is the will to jump! How did that work out in the end Ani?
Luke had no context for what Jedi of old were like though. Or at least had less of a context. Luke can best be described as a Grey Jedi. This is especially true in Legends canon and his new Jedi order.
Ok, so re-watching this really makes me appreciate how they actually make the Fall make SENSE. That and I feel so sorry for those droids who knew they were scrapped the moment Skywalker showed up.
@@spiderboy43 One thing that I didn't like about the prequels is how they tried to make it seem like Palpatine and Sidious were two different characters until episode 3.
Hayden’s acting as Anakin was amazing. He will always bring an amazing performance. The scene where Anakin sees his future is so sad. He saw all the horrible things he would later do
As you progress through the seasons, you can notice how Anakin becomes more and more aggressive. That’s evident when he frequently uses force choke more and more.
Is it Destiny for the Skywalker generations to turn evil? Or they're haunted by the evil deeds of their ancestors, in try of fixing what's wrong, they walk the same dark path?
Admiral Ackbar from the complete saga that may be true by the end of return of the Jedi, but you can see with another watching of the original trilogy that Luke is more like his father than it would seem, in empire Luke is emotional, brash, reckless, and impulsive just like his father. In return of the Jedi he uses force choke against the guards in jabbas palace, Luke also puts his friends and allies at risk sending them in one by one to get caught by jabba showing his arrogance. In the fight in palpatines room on the Death Star we can see Luke becoming more and more aggressive until he overpowers dearth Vader cutting off his hand, it's only until he realized his faults that he becomes in balance and a true Jedi, this is character development that anakin in the prequels desperately needed to make him likable. Something that the makers of the clone wars understood, anakin in the cartoon is an amazing character.
Anakin: "As long as I live, no harm will ever come to you, Chancellor." Foreshadowing like this is one the best things the writers got to slip into this show.
I thought it already made perfect sense. Anakin has strong attachments to people and he is very emotional -> Anakin loses his mother and it is the most painful thing ever -> Anakin kills and entire villain in the name of revenge -> Padmé might die -> Losing her like he lost his mother is his greatest fear-> Anakin does whatever it takes to save her -> That includes turning on the Jedi and killing kids if it means saving the one he loves -> Embracing the Dark Side feed the arrogance and emotions Anakin always had and he likes it And that's not even including the resentment he felt toward the Jedi the film that also helped established his turn. The core of Anakin's turn is that he was willing to do literally anything to save Padme and I thought the films communicated that perfectly and established the root of his emotional dependence. Sure, the Clone Wars added more stuff to make his turn seem even more clear, but the films had everything they needed to make the turn believable and clear in the first place. The Clone Wars was just a side dish to go what the main course that was the films in telling use how Anakin turned.
Watching this it occurs to me that Anakin’s entire fall to the dark side was because he wanted to stop the people he loved from dying. He was promised this ability by Palpatine but he never delivered. Meanwhile Rey apparently learned this ability off-screen just by reading about it in a book.
The entire mortis arc was generally unliked anyways, because incarnations of "force gods" is kinda cringe and out-of-place and the wrong tone for the star wars universe
@@CorwinTheOneAndOnly that’s fair, but for the record they were part of the cosmic force, not the living force. There’s a difference and that’s why they were so much more powerful than a traditional force user, and only the chosen one would be able to control them.
So they were out of place in comparison to force users who tapped into the living force but not necessarily out of place in the overall story which includes the cosmic force
Obi-Wan: Come, Anakin. Master Yoda has a new lesson today Anakin: I don’t wanna go, I’m way ahead of the other younglings. There’s nothing he could teach me. Meanwhile in the youngling training room Yoda: Today, Younglings. Learn the correct approach when an opponent retreats to an elevated level of ground from you we will
At 33:05 you can see Anakin almost reaches out to Obi Wan to further talk about it with him, but decides against it and lets him go. Makes me feel really bad for him. He wants to ask for help, but feels like he can’t.
People give him shit for the crying and the romantic stuff he did which is indeed a little cringe but tbh that was only in episode 2 in 3 he got much better and was one of my favorite parts of that movie his performance emotionally and physically
@@bouteilledeau1463 JAJAJAJAJA! X'D... Now, in all seriousness, I love how the Prequels Trilogy have much more sense now because of this series. Altogether, Prequels and _Clone Wars_ make the Original Trilogy have a full background of events. Lovely...
Obi-Wan: R2 units are a dime a dozen R2 *who has had countless years of experience in hostile territory and dealing with deadly situations, never leaving Anakin’s side and being there for him whenever he’s needed, and even being there for Padmé in multiple moments* : angry as fuk

@@briannab4037 I mean Damn. Your actually right even made windu was prepared to murder palpatine simply because he was a sith Lord and don't match up with the views of the Jedi
Brianna B I believe that’s one reason Palpatine was able to take over. He used the Jedi’s aggressive stance in the war to convince the people that the Jedi were violent enforcers and that they were no longer guardians of the peace. Once Windu and the others attempted to assassinate Palpatine, that was the final push needed to sway public opinion. Citing this assassination attempt and other Jedi war crimes, he was able to gain enough sympathy and support to brand them as traitors and finally remove the Jedi from the government altogether. It’s a pretty cool plan
I hate how people say his turn to the darkside was sudden when there have been several times he's done something that against the jedi code and that he would turn to the darkside. His hatred has always been there and with the death of his mother, his love for padme, his unborn children, the jedi failing him wanting him to be the chosen one forcing that responsibility and wanting to make him a weapon, refusing him the rank of master when he had earned it, making him a peacekeeper but then making him a general of war, and the Jedis own self serving interests that betray the very code they preach about and break often, and in the scene with palpatine, Mace Windu says the same line Palpatine did at the beginning showing how the Jedi and sith were one in the same with just a difference in opinion and view, it was only a matter of time before he turned. Even if Sidious wasn't in the picture i believe he would of turned, sidious merely pushed Anakin more in the direction amd used what was already there.
@@trevoradrian5975 Agreed, but rhe prequels did show his turn to the dark side but since clone wars was a series rather than a movie it did it so much better
@@vasikan3502 Exactly, honestly it made perfect sense for him to turn I mean just look at the sheer number of things to show it. Anakin isn't even the only one, multiple Jedi have turned dark because of the Jedi's own failures, look at count dooku.
Silent Jack M.D the issue the prequels has with his turn is it seemingly came from nowhere. He was an unhappy jedi and within 5 mins had pledged himself to Palestine.
I like how Anakin values the connections he’s made with people and robots alike. He is angered when Obi-Wan discredits Anakin’s worries of R2’s safety, you can tell this is a kid who valued the only real relationship he had with his mother before he was taken in by the Jedi. And after losing her, he is convicted to keep hold onto the bonds he has left. This is the exact reason as to why he turns to the dark side, his fear of losing the people he loves. It’s such an amazingly personal story about how the life of one man can decide the fate of the whole world, much like many of history’s worst dictators. And yet, can you really blame Anakin? When he is told to sacrifice his bonds for the greater good, can you really expect someone to bow their head and follow dogmatically. Like Nietzsche said, ‘What is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil’, and I think that applies especially well to the tragedy of Anakin.
Foreshadowing for the future Tarkin didn't fear Vader as much as most people did because he knew he was one of the few people Vader was not allowed to kill and understand the consequences Vader would face should he kill him
@@kurtpunchesthings2411 he’s lucky Vader couldn’t kill him, he made more mistakes than all the other Imperials he force choked. Deserved to die on the Death Star.
It also amazes me how the Jedi almost never see a person turning to the Darkside. For all their knowledge of it many Jedi have shown signs of the Darkside taking over and the Jedi just continue on like nothing happened. They are arrogant in their own way even though they preach against it, and have failed to save lives because of their strict adherence to the Jedi code
@@Thejoeyred Darth Bane speaks of the ebb and flow of the force. There are times when the light side dominates the galaxy and times when the dark side does. Force sensitive people can feel that. The jedi know the dark side is always there. Even if every Sith was killed Jedi can still fall to it. The masters are just so arrogant they assume they've won and that is the end of it. Over the centuries there were signs of the Sith. They were very small signs but it was there. The Jedi just assumed the Sith were dead so they didn't explore it to really find out. On a completely different side note there was a Jedi who actively used the dark side but was a good person. They didn't use it for evil and actually helped a lot of people

He was lied to by the Council and told to suppress his emotions on many occasions, was consistently doing all the major missions whilst other masters on the Council practically never left the Temple, thought he'd seen his best friend killed, lost his padawan whom he loved like family because she'd been wrongly accused and lost faith in the Order, then had visions of his pregnant wife dying and the only guy to offer him a way to save her was the Sith Lord who'd been a constant ally and mentor to him. With the exception of a certain few, namely Luke, I honestly think any character who'd gone through the same would've turned to the Dark Side.
Indeed. This is why the Jedi are viewed almost negatively, they constantly say that emotions and attachments are a way to the dark side. To a short extent, they are right, but its only when those attachments are lost, that all of the bottled up emotions come out and a Jedi does/can fall into darkness. Anakin is an obvious example, but also Ventress, and Ulic Qel-Droma from the Old Republic era. they fell because of the loss of attachments.

yoda could see his descent into the dark side of arrogance, anger, growing cruelty, hatred and greed as did others.

Now, *I* am the master."
"Only a master of evil, Darth."
Anakin was like well this is the same shit and went full Sith.
except that he wasn't a slave when he was in the order but the jedi himself. he just refused to take at least some responsibilith

Anakin skywalker was use to for help ahsoka tano and Obi wan to use defense and to take down Dark side and green destined at to powerfuly deathsinger
@@ErikDayne Because Quai-Gon died. He would help him, raise him better than Obi-Wan better than Windu.

And that's not even including the resentment he felt toward the Jedi the film that also helped established his turn.

Jedi aren't against murder though. They were literally war generals in the Clone Wars.
@@briannab4037 they were peace keepers and were reluctant to be generals in the clone wars in the first place

@@pingaspearce9403 They weren't against murder though. Sure it was justified murder, like it had a purpose- but they weren't against it. If they were, why would they learn to use lightsabers in the first place.
It’s funny to see how much care went into the clone wars and how subtle his character changed compared to the original trilogy side by side

They don’t believe in the dark side and live by their defeat of the Sith a millennium ago so they feel invisible so that’s their problem

Yep
He was lied to by the Council and told to suppress his emotions on many occasions, was consistently doing all the major missions whilst other masters on the Council practically never left the Temple, thought he'd seen his best friend killed, lost his padawan whom he loved like family because she'd been wrongly accused and lost faith in the Order, then had visions of his pregnant wife dying and the only guy to offer him a way to save her was the Sith Lord who'd been a constant ally and mentor to him.
With the exception of a certain few, namely Luke, I honestly think any character who'd gone through the same would've turned to the Dark Side.
I'd say Obi-Wan is another exception
I would say Padmé if she had remained alive, in the end Luke manages to save him because it is the only thing he has left of her
