Thank you James for making an honest impactful video about saltwater fishing especially in Louisiana. It's hard to manage expectations when you see so many highlight reel videos from great conditions but often times that's not what you get. Coming from a Louisiana fly fishing resident, all of your points are dead on accurate.
Great video. Can’t stress enough the need to practice casting! As you stated, you may not get many good shots at fish, got to be ready. Another thing I’ve seen with friends the first time they fish saltwater is fighting fish like they’re trout and you don’t want to break them off on 6x tippet. Saltwater fish are strong animals and you need to put the wood to them to end the battle quickly and humanely. I’m a big fan of Baja for breaking into saltwater. Generally lots of shots…chumming certainly increases your chances. It’s also about 1/2 the cost of other saltwater destinations.
Baja is on the list. Saltwater is a whole different game and definitely takes time to get used to. The one thing you can actually do at home is cast. Can’t learn how to spot bonefish in Nebraska.
@@AboutTrout I feel like I should give you a thumbs down for that! :) Maybe you could go back to a not so secret area? I’ve been interested in catching stripers on the West Coast for a while now.
Great advice as always James. Loving the new studio!
Appreciate the feed back. Hope you’re well!
So true! Expectations can get in the way of having fun. Each salt water trip I feel a little more confident. Practice, practice and practice helps.
Thanks for watching! You can never practice enough and expectations will ruin a saltwater trip every time. Things change so fast out there!
Solid information for anyone that is hitting the salt......it's a different world

Best bibs. ...old pair of waders. Cut off the booties at the ankles leaving a neoprene cuff and leave on the gravel guards.
Elite tip. Zipper waders would be the way
Great tips James! Are you going to post a video highlighting your striper fishing on the West coast?
I actually have no footage I took an oath of secrecy.
