I won't buy anything IK anymore because of their registration scheme. You can't buy these second hand and transfer the registration for access to firmware updates. I got burned on some used IK gear. They tell you to have the previous owner pay them $20 to transfer the registration. Good luck getting them to do that for you.
Fantastic review. I completely agree about the B.S. and mysticism being spread about distortion and original gear. I bought this pedal and it's worth it.
I would be interested in the following product from IK Multimedia, a full featured floor based hardware modeler working on the best Amplitube tech. No more than $700
I think a full on floor modeler has to be in the works. They have basically all the sims. They are starting to work on the hardware now. These first pedals seem to be like a “beta test” so they can learn what hardware works before they come out with a heavy duty all-in-one
Great thing to be interested in spending long winter evenings! In order to then use the three necessary presets...;) I love such things - they can be studied indefinitely!
This is a revised comment. This is a good video that you put out and very informative and I use it as reference Just watched it again for like the fourth time! Yes the pedal is analog at least That's what it says in the manual and I also asked Sweetwater! It does leave something to be desired. I have it hooked up to Tonex. With a lot of tweaking you can get it to sound good but everything seems to be too loud even if I turn it all the way down maybe my pickups on my guitar are just too hot. But I have been able to get some good sounds and there's quite a few of them in there so it just takes some delicate deliberate extensive tweaking to get it to sound good. I'll keep working on it and keep you posted. Your video does open up quite a few possibilities so I use it as a reference. THANKS 👍
Excellent detailed video and walk through of this unit,though to my old ears the sounds are too fizzy. I've been searching for a smoother overdive in a similar unit, but the closest I've come was the Boss Pocket GT with only one sound. If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate it greatly,Cheers.
I got the Axe IO together with Amplitube Max, first I thought it’s great. But most of the default settings sound muddy and it takes me endless fiddling to tweak it to a sound I like. I love the idea of HW/SW Integration a lot, but here in your demos, most of the sounds are just noisy/muddy, kind of washed out, too. But maybe that’s only me. I got also got a Captor X recently for my HK Grandmeister and that was a revelation soundwise. The AXE IO HW itself is great, I really like that device.
Whot ... do we have a "digital Henning" now ? 🤔 Seems to be a good sounding pedal ... maybe you would like to do a shootout comparing it to the OD-200 and a Helix as a curved ball ... Nice review 👍 tanks a lot
At around 15 minutes Henning says he likes the fuzz. Either they've worn him down w years of fuzz demos OR its for the same reason I like digital effects even tho not the digital amps much. W a digital fuzz or other distortion its more like you've got a separate fuzz or other distortion for each string , so multiple notes don't just sound like filtered static.
They make brilliant plugins, their T-Racks classic EQ is brilliant. I use it all the time in my DAW, on every recording. It's well worth the cost for sure, but I don't rate the sounds in this pedal, and I don't really like Amplitube (it's ok but there are other amp sim makers I prefer, and many that are just as good and free) I use a lot of Amp sims in recording, and I have a few Amplitube amp sims, but I never use them, and have free sims I think sound as good if not better and I actually use a lot (ML sound labs free stuff is really good for metal stuff, also Ignite Emissary STL Tones and Tone Lib is great for cleaner genres, and also the Rock/Blues sounds, you can also get older versions of that for free)
Not related to this video but : Do you still have the Diezel Zerrer ? I'm looking for one of these but... at used normal european price (what's happening with the prices of this pedal where people try to sell them used more than the brand new ones? )
I gotta say, I don't think I liked a single thing I heard here. And I'm not usually that guy. This thing just isn't quite there yet for me. Maybe some firmware updates could make this a great unit.
Getting something with all the features is such a trap for me. I see 20583920076 different models and presets and think wow thats really cool and in reality i just use the first default preset I kinda like and move the gain, volume and treble knobs around about once a month.
Saw your comments on the Casino Guitars video and I have to agree with much of what you said. Their video was a whole lot of nothing. Too vague and nothing that insightful. It would be interesting to see you do a video discussing this "naughty" or nice list.
Got the digital version for free, haven't been able to play with it yet but this video has been great!
I could never in a million years buy one of the IK units when Strymon is the same price.
Strymon overdrives give you barely any sounds compared to this.. You're basically paying for the name.

This isn’t for everyone but one thing I think they did very well was the software-hardware integration
These units remind me of the ages old Line 6 DM/DL/FM/MM pedals. Refreshed for 2021.

Ik multimedia amplitube don't disappoint.... I am currently using amplitube cs and i highly recommend this if u wanna try out free amp sim 😊

This type of pedal isn't for me. I need gear that doesn't give you too many options for tweaking. But a cool piece of gear and a good demo!
