    Used Amplitube for years until I got my first HX Stomp. So going off that, these pedals probably won't be flying off the shelves because of competition. But, really cool to see a plugin focused company getting their hands into the world of physical guitar pedals!

      @@brunorocha3718 I'm thinking, if i was to cost up 4 or 5 of these pedals, I'm not that far off or even above the cost of some of the multi FX processors. I upgraded to a Helix last month, Kempers aren't all that much more, neither is the Helix LT or Rack. It's a very small % of the market that would consider and purchase these Amplitube pedals.

      @@SydDante These are meant to be used as separate pedals on your pedalboard so if you need a great modulation pedal, for example, pick up X-VIBE and you'll have a lot of options for modulation from one pedal but it isn't meant to put the full AmpliTube on your pedalboard. For a single pedal that does so much, each of these X-GEAR pedals are competitively priced. Of course if you want all four to replace pedals on your board, that's great - and we do have a discount for buying all four - but these are single pedals for a reason. Perhaps someday we'll put the full AmpliTube 5 at your feet/hands/fingers/etc though... :)

    I love my X-Space pedal. It’s amazingly versatile. You didn’t demo the “X-Mode” (hold down the middle foot switch) but it’s pure magic IMO. I’ll finish up an ambient/spacey/ethereal thing, hold down that switch, and it just soars. I’ve got the software version of the X-Drive as well, also quite nice. Anyone that thinks one can simply plug in a guitar and sound like a god without dialing in their tone is a fool. That’s true of even the most basic analog pedal or amp as well. There’s knobs on there for a reason. Use them.
    My gear these days are my Line 6 Helix and/or my IK Multimedia AmpliTube 5 Max. I haven’t fired up any up my “real” amps for a few years. Given the collection & versatility of those, I thought my pedal days were over. The X-Space changed that. With the virtual version being north of $100, the hardware version (which includes the software version) was a no brainer for me. And I can use the pedal with my Helix as well. Win win. Now, if IK Multimedia would combine the features of the excellent AXE I/O with a controller like the Stomp I/O into one unit…I’d be in sonic heaven.

      The Preset knob could be used for quick changes if you need to jump several banks and you want to position yourself in between songs. Also, the X-GEAR pedals also offer MIDI ports and and an External Pedal input. Both can be used for some nice customization for how your pedals switch presets, especially in a live situation. Edit* I wanted to also mention the Temporary modes which might be useful in your situation. If you press and hold say pedal "A" while using the preset on pedal "B", you can temporarily use that sound until you let go. Along with the X-MODE it's a really interesting way to add some flavor in the middle of a riff or part of a song without going too far. 🤘

    These are a good idea overall but at the same time, I do think there is still a lot of value in really just going to music shops and experimenting with different standalone pedals and putting together a pedalboard that is very specific to your needs and doesn't have a lot of functionality you don't even really care about.
    Having used similar multi-effect solutions, it is hard for me to look at this and not think that after some time of use, one would really just pick a couple of different effect types that they like per pedal and never, ever touch anything else. In that situation, it might have made more sense to just track down the actual pedals themselves so that you can have much more immediate, fine control over each at any given moment.
    There is obviously a market for this stuff but I think that there are going to be guitarists that don't really benefit from the multi-effect pedal concept.

    • @ikmultimedia
      @ikmultimedia 3 года назад

      These are meant to be single pedals, but they happen to also have a lot of options on board (like the 16 different algorithms and all of the options for controlling them) so I can understand how you can get a "multifx" vibe from them. Think of X-GEAR pedals as taking a single slot for let's say a distortion or overdrive pedal but with the ability to do many different types of distortion or overdrive. Each pedal is essentially a chameleon providing any flavor of either overdrive/distortion, reverb, delay, or modulation.

    I'm not sure they make sense as standalone items, maybe more aimed at people who use IKAT at home as their main rig, have built their sound using that app and then need to put those virtual sounds in road-ready cases. I use IK stereo chorus, hall verb and the Uni-vibe all the time and they sound amazing, and then with my own stompbox ODs in front - are they planning an all in one 'multi-fx' type release? That would make more sense I feel.

    • @ikmultimedia
      @ikmultimedia 3 года назад

      These are meant to be a standalone pedal providing an array of either reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive options right on your pedalboard. Except you don't have only one type of reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive you have any flavor you like. They are not multifx pedals, but they provide a huge range of tone options in each of those areas: reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive.

    Multi FX pedals are fun to experiment with however, I prefer separate pedals for each Effect. It could just be me however, I feel you get a lot more out of a Stand alone pedal. It just seems that a dedicated pedal gives you a better tone and effect than a pedal that focuses on several different effects all in one unit... but then again, maybe it's just me.

      These are standalone pedals. You just get 16 algorithm options for each (reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive) with a massive amount of control and tone shaping for each of those algorithms.

    • @SWLDguitar1
      @SWLDguitar1 3 года назад

      From the xvibe perspective, you can carry just the xvibe and have 16 different modulation pedals in 1 instead of carrying say 5 different ones on your board. On top of that program a preset for each song, save it while having a bright LED display show the name for dark stages. You get free plugins (there's a rebate right now for additional plugins) with tweak-ability in the software. Firmware Updates can be provided via USB and it has expression pedal and midi versatility.
      Not sure about your uses but for me, cover bands guitarist should be head over heels for the xvibe. A typical cover band guitarist will need about 5 different modulations depending on genres, and this delivers in my opinion. Prior attempts (like the old line 6 pedals) at all in ones always had that "you know it's digital" sound, but based on iks plugins, I expect 5 star quality.
      I plan on ordering one today, if it's crap I'll return it, if it's great then I'll reduce my board footprint.

    To me, it doesn’t make sense that these guys get into the highly competitive physical pedal market. However they seem well positioned to make a hybrid product: a physical set of pedals that connect via usb to your computer and allow you to turn the knobs and switch them on and off like a normal pedal, but the processing occurs in your computer. This would have many advantages:
    1) playing around with a virtual pedal board is far less natural than turning physical knobs and switches
    2) you’d use the much more impressive computing power of your main computer, not rely on a dinky processor in each digital pedal. For anyone running apple silicon it simply makes no sense to be buying digital boxes that can’t match the processing power in their laptop.
    3) it minimizes the number of times a signal gets converted from analog to digital and back to analog. I’d rather have a great interface do the analog to digital conversion once and then work with digital from then on.
    4) you could swap what each pedal does - if you wanted a chorus pedal on your board, just change what the box controls.
    5) you could also have always on pedals that only operate on your laptop, no need to have a physical box for those
    6) you could save the entire pedal board and it’s settings. You could even have a physical switch that enabled you to toggle between those presets - this would change all the settings on your computer and what each physical pedal controls and what it’s initial settings are. It also means you could change pedal order between presets because the entire processing path is digital.
    7) since these would really just be usb midi controllers, they could be bus powered, or would only need one very simple power supply.

    • @ikmultimedia
      @ikmultimedia 3 года назад +2

      You can connect the X-GEAR pedals to your computer via USB. Also, they can be controlled via MIDI which gives you a huge amount of options for using them live. They are each meant as a single pedal on your board but with a lot more power than a typical single pedal would give you.

    • @andrew6889-p5c
      @andrew6889-p5c 3 года назад +1

      @@ikmultimedia All this is true, but the reason these pedals cost so much is that you are selling me a new CPU and digital interface with each pedal. Your comparative advantage is in making awesome software. Arturia should be a role model for you. They make incredible virtual synths and then also sell amazing midi controllers that let people physically interact with them in a natural way. The controllers make the software way way more useful and creative. That’s what I think you ought to be doing. That’s a wide open market for guitar effects. And once people have the physical midi-controller pedals they would be hankering to buy more and more amps and pedals from you.

    These are a little late to the game , will have to try the Distortion, for a price of £220 seems pretty good .
    Whats up with Peter he looks like he's proper pissed off , I wouldn't be surprised if he's thinking of leaving, as Captain Lee seems to be covering all the bases with new players, Acoustic and Effects wise. Yeah Lee all BMW owners say that they don't want to be that guy , definitely something going on between these two.

    It's really sad to see a long time running company like IK Multimidia step into the pedal market with a product that totally looks like a gross chinese mock up of a Strymon pedal. Come on, your plugins are amazing and have been driving guitar plugin innovation for a long time, you can do a lot better than this! The drives sound so compressed in all the online demos, are they really sounding like this? Man, you can get so much better for 250 quids... The other pedals sound ok I guess, the nicest thing is how wysiwyg the control interface is.

    I love pedals but digital technology has come to the point where it is virtually unrecognizable to the human ear, maybe Overdrives still need work, but everything is else is just the same, only cork sniffers would say otherwise. I just traded pedals for a Pod GO and I don't regret it at all.

    These pedals sound like plugins (duh!) which might be what you're after but I don't understand why you'd want that sort of sound running into a real amp. 2 of these = 1 HX Stomp which sounds much better running into a real amp. If you're on a budget you'll be looking at Mooer, TC Electronic etc (which is fine) and if you're spending a bit more you'll be looking at a market which is already flooded with much better modellers.

    • @ikmultimedia
      @ikmultimedia 3 года назад +2

      AmpliTube 5 is unquestionably top tier modeling. These sound as good or better than any modeling on the market, we stake our 25-year modeling experience on the quality of our products including almost 20 years of just AmpliTube modeling (which piggybacked off of our analog modeling experience - and hardware expertise from experts in pro audio hardware design who became leaders in DSP technology that we still have on our team). These aren't multifx processors like you mention, but they absolutely stand up to or exceed the reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive on the processors you think sound better. And if we decided to create a multifx processor, I can guarantee it would sound amazing since we continue to improve upon and build on the true pedigree of AmpliTube's industry-leading modeling.

    Source Audio Ventris, Strymon Timeline & any sensibly priced drive pedal comes in less and would destroy this. Unless you run the AT plugin I don't see the point of these other than having matching pedals. Each to their own of course but my 2 pence worth.

      You might want to compare equivalent reverb, modulation, delay, or distortion/overdrive pedals to these... You might be surprised. These will not be "destroyed" - we know a thing or two about DSP 😀

    • @GeordieGuitarGuy
      @GeordieGuitarGuy 3 года назад +2

      @@ikmultimedia literally the very reason you've replied is because you've seen a lot of people all saying the same thing(s). If I was just being unfair and ridiculous you wouldn't have bothered to reply. Amplitube is/was a pioneering product, fair enough, but I just don't see the niche, convenience or added pedalsboard value with these. As I said originally, that's my own opinion. I think there's better value for money/sounding options buying other stand alone pedals for the grand these 4 units cost.

    For me these are combined worst sides of both worlds. Size and cost of normal pedals and limitations such as can you even have two different modulations on at the same time and if you can, you at least cannot control their places in the signal chain.
    And then on the otherside they need fiddling with presets etc and are models of something.
    But hey maybe I just don't understand the point of these.
