  • It's the ultimate test of thermal and day-night riflescopes. We've brought together the experts, and we've got £38,500 worth of the latest high-tech kit to put through its paces, with scopes ranging from £700 to £4,500. Will the most expensive scopes come out on top? Can the budget models hold their own? There's only one way to find out.
    Tim Pilbeam, retired gamekeeper Roy Foster, gunshop owner Mike West and '260Rips' Mark Ripley put the scopes through a thorough test, and give their expert opinion on each.
    Here is the kit showcased in this show:

    Very good film from the gang, yes I would like to say every one would learn something from this but the only problem I can see is the majority of vermin shooters will not have that amount of cash to get good thermal scope and spotter , but even at the lower end of the market with NV or thermal it is still a game changer. Brill film thanks Fieldsports.

    The Merger is a pain in the balls if you value your natural night vision.
    With a monocular, you leave one eye unaffected, but use the Merger and you are sodding blind for the next 15 mins.
    A decent monocular wins hands down (IMHO)

      @Koelkop Год назад +1

      That is very true, but I have to add. for some people its difficult to look through a monocular, it seems older people who use glasses etc find it way better to look at 2 screens instead of one. We have a Helion xp 50 pro and my dad bought a merger after looking through it because he could actually see a lot better through it lol

    Excellent. Very informative and entertaining at the same time. Lamps definitely do still work. I started with a lamp. Then spotted with a lamp and shot with NV. Now I ocasionaly spot with a lamp but generaly spot with thermal and shoot with NV. Thermal scopes are still too rich for my blood.

    As a newbie who's still waiting for their license to come through, this episode has helped to cut through the minefield of scopes. I still haven't made my mind up on what will be my choice when it comes to finally purchasing something, as the list is still pretty long, but price will play a contributing factor on my decision. A practical, budget friendly set up will be my only option, so it would be good to see an episode on this. Thanks again for a great show.

    • @260rips

      I’m sure there’s a large mark up on many things we buy that’s why companies make them. If I could build my own thermal spotter with a built in lrf for half the price maybe I would but I can’t so if I want it I’ll pay the price for it 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Some of this gear is so expensive and I genuinely don’t think it gives you the edge.
    Sytong ht66 add on. Pbir. Hik micro 19 thermal spotter, 200 yard foxes.
    Job done. Then switch over to air rifle for rabbits with 20 quid bayonet fitting. Really no need to buy into this stuff, unless you wish of course.
