I don't think anyone has done a better job , 'explaining' remote northern Australia as Les did in this series. His respect and love for the indigenous Australians of Arnhem Land shines through, and is so obvious yet so understated...at that time, I felt that Les Hiddens did much to increase the understanding of city folk like me for Aboriginal people and their land. I get the same feeling watching this series now as I did over 30 years ago.

The ducks nuts of Australian television. Me and my mates grew up wanting and trying to be Les Hiddens or Malcolm Douglas. That was when we weren’t trying to be Alan Border or David Boon. If you weren’t into it then you weren’t living. It helped living in the North West of Australia because we could test our new learnt skills for real. This series was regularly shown on the "UK Gold" TV channel back in the day...Les Hiddins was the first "outdoor survival teacher" I ever watched. He is the daddy when it comes to genuine TV experts. He is well known and well regarded in the UK - Our own national survival/bushcraft expert Ray Mears was a huge fan of TBTM and eventually did a show with him.
Anyway, I absolutely love the guy, his knowledge, his respect and the things he did for his fellow veterans all speak to a good and decent man.

spectacular, the original and best 4wd, camping n cooking show. He truly had the best of both worlds, how many years on and we still rely on imported foods
