I remember seeing les's rover parked in Cairns in the late 80s or early 90s, i made my mum who i was with that day stay with me within seeing distance of his 4wd for n hour or so just to get a glimpse or maybe even say hello to the man himself, i was about 10 years of age and knew without a doubt it was his 4wd, he didn't show and i was dragged away by my mum to head home and i was so upset i didn't get to see him. A couple of year's later we we're wondering around the Karanda markets and there in front of me was a hat i knew all too well.... it was Les! I was in shock...so full of excitement and nerves and all i wanted to do was say something to him... maybe a hello or i love your show or "boil him up cook him up"!!... but said nothing!! Nerves got the better of me, so i just stalked him and followed him around for ages and didn't take my eye off him. My parents thought it was hilarious. Im 42 now and would probably do the same thing if i saw him today!! 😂😂😂 love this man and the memories of sitting on the floor cross legged as a child loving every second of his show. He taught me so much as a kid that i have carried on as an adult and now teach my own children on our travels. As far as i know he still lives in Karanda west of Cairns. What a true Aussie legend, and what great memories watching all this again has brought back. T.v at it's finest and an age when the world was better. ❤
26:09 when Old mate Johnny takes Les through the mangrove 🥲 times gone by. I love this country. Thank you very much for having me. Greetings from a Scandinavian on a lap of Australia
I loved watching this series when it first came out 34 years ago, now I’m watching it again and can see why. The production, cinematography, Les’s knowledge and the whole laidback presentation makes it way ahead of its time.
I thank God for these videos, I was pretty destitute and depressed, and discovered these accidentally. Major Hiddens took my mind off my troubles and entertained and informed me, and I'm forever grateful. Australia should be, and I imagine is, be very proud of him.
@@MrBamaga Oddly enough, for me it was Ray Mears since i was a kid,in eastern europe. Made me wish to travel as much as he did...Which i finally did, being all over the world-including Australia and New Zeeland. Fantastic places-i wish i could have went to western Australia, though. Ray has a slew of episodes in Australia, even a mini series,"Ray Mears go walkabout"! In one of the episodes, there is Les-which prompted me to search more of him...good thing i did. Cheers!
I watched these programmes years ago when Les was a young man in the Australian Army and I was a young man too, dreaming of visiting the Australian Outback. I am no longer a young man and unlikely to ever visit Australia . These videos bring back happy memories. Thankyou Les
Precious memories of being a in school in the 1990s. If there was nothing to do, we'd watch an episode of the Bush Tucker Man on VHS. Ahhh the nostalgia!
I was in year 3 when this was originally broadcast in 88, so great to see Les again. I remember going and building a bivi as a kid as my mum would let me go for an overnighter out bush about 1km from our house (you could that in the 80's and early 90's). I would take my camping hoochie, webbing, mini stove and a line, catch fish or some yabbies and just have a great time. Since then the local council has blocked off all that area and drained the little river and the damn. I tried to visit the area and the police came quickly to escort me off it, whereas back in the day they would ask how the camp went.
Loved this show when I was a child and still today he is such an influence to me and my RUclips content. I don't know much but I am trying to learn much more about bush tucker.
I remember very clearly watching this program back in the early 90's on ABC TV here in Port Moresby. I came across it yesterday and man I had flashbacks to my childhood, thank you for sharing and bringing back good memories
Watched my first episode last night and really enjoyed it. I’ve seen a few of the Malcolm Douglas ones and they are great too. You Aussies are a lucky bunch. 🇬🇧👍.
I met malcom while working at truscott airfield,Kalumburu middle of nowhere,he was lost and his red healer bit my arm, funny looking back.Bit of a tragedy his passing
I loved this show as a kid. Watching this makes you think about the modern day adventure shows. Stretched landcruisers with all the fruit you could imagine hundreds of thousands spent on the vehicles alone. Les is just puttin around in a 4 cylinder landrover as basic as they come (maybe in less comfort) but also seems with a lot less fuss.
so many bush guys over the years Malcolm Douglas how to get bogged for 1/2 a show Leyland Bros and the comedy shows that took the piss Paul Hogan and Russel Coight all Entertaining.💯 A few ive missed but all showed us our Aussie backyard downunder 🙃 which most of us never went there in fear of being Booged in sand .
26:11 swallowed it like a boss, holy smokes... Honestly don't know how I end up here and watched the whole thing but it was interesting and awesome 😀 what a bunch of legends 👏🏽
What they don’t tell you is that you are supposed to walk through the water crossing to check the depth and hidden rocks for the best path. This takes some courage when the Estuarine Crocodile warning sign is right there as you enter the water, and all the time you’re hoping some great big lizard doesn’t grab your leg and pull you under.
The only problem with the documentary is there is no real mention of the crocodile dangers. I am in awe of les’s knowledge but it would have been great to hear about the dangers of the outback interspersed with the survival aspects.
If we took more notice of wise people like Les and less of foolish politicians, we would not be fighting to save the planet from disaster, as others on here have said, what an absolute legend; the Auzzie Attenborough
I reckon in this day and age, he'd have to be pretty careful around the waters now theres a hell of a lot more crocs than when this was filmed in the 80s
Watched lws every Friday night new episode, my friends would have to wait for me but! Now i do realise i was kinda suckered into this editing and sound effects 😢
I remember watching this when I was much younger than I am now... sad to hear of the Bush Tucker Man's passing, but watching this again is an absolute joy.
What's the gun for? I always assumed some producer decided he should wear a pistol. I can't think of a single use for a pistol in the Australian NT. Shooting crocodiles?

They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. The music is perfect. The cinematography just stunning.

This has made my day, so glad you are putting all these officially online.

Chin up mate ,your not alone
Les Hiddins, Malcolm Douglas and Mike and Mal Leyland were the inspiration for our own travels around Australia. I am loving watching this again.
Let's not forget Jack Absalom.
Alby Mangles and John Field !!
World Safari with aussie's Alby Mangles and John Field ...inspired all these guys
Let’s not forget Russel Coight 😂

this man should be knighted, what an absolute legend,
sir les has a ring to it!
He is! (Knighthoods are cancelled but he has an AM)
They've got his kit, including his hat in the national museum!😅
Man this takes me back to simpler good times. Good vibes watching this.
This was a legendary show. I watched this as a kid and hence couldn't stand that celebrity showman who popped up later.
I know who you mean and absolutely agree.
It's just such a calming show. So much to learn from the world around you
I love these old episodes, what a man.
I'd have to take a lot of canned food, you know just in case.

Watched this years ago with my daughter. I cannot wait to watch it with my new grandson.
Really rated Les probably one of the best Australian survivalist .
I watched this wonderful series when it was first released.
Just Brilliant 👏👏👏👏👍
First time I’ve seen this. Love the intro music. I’ve have watched all the survival shows. I like this format the best.
Loved this show when I was a child and still today he is such an influence to me and my RUclips content. I don't know much but I am trying to learn much more about bush tucker.
I'd love a follow up series or even another related program, abc... hint hint ;).
This is my favorite Australian TV series, full stop.
Use to live in Kununurra, my fave time of year was the wet
I used to live there too, I watched these episodes on TV then would head out bush around Kununurra pretending I was the bush tucker man lol
Loved watching this show as a kid.
This is one of my favourite episodes in the entire series. Exploring, building shelter and mingling with the locals
I remember very clearly watching this program back in the early 90's on ABC TV here in Port Moresby. I came across it yesterday and man I had flashbacks to my childhood, thank you for sharing and bringing back good memories
Please release all at once.
I love this man
The photography and shot set up on this series is outstanding.

This is a real throw back to my child hood, and my inspiration to travel to OZ. Love the bush Rucker man
Hi from Melbourne Australia, Thank you for sharing mate.
Awesome thanks for sharing
Great show from the past
It would be interesting for les to do an updated series on the changes that have happened if any to the country ,

Entertaining on wilderness survival with some humour chucked in and well presented by Les Hidden. I wonder if his still alive and kicking!
Bring him back that's why I'm in horticulture
I was a lot younger when I first saw Les Hiddins in these shows. Enjoyed them then and loving seeing them again now.
Does anyone know if the series was taped or filmed? I'm wondering if there would be the possibility of a remaster to HD one day?
fantastic episode🇦🇺🛻🏞️😎🤙
Brilliant 😎
I'd sure hope Les is still kicking bloody legend in my eyes.
Lez is still alive and doing well
very good to see this.
I watched the Bush Tucker man when it first came out and I still love it now............I like the large revolver on his hip.
Bush Tucker Man is a national icon
Thanks enjoying these
G,day Les you absolute legend. A god among men.
Good stuff lez your the best mate shows are great
background to the theme music has a slight stairway to heaven (led zeppelin) sound , loving watching this again.

Excellent production. Thank u.

I’m all in ABC. You’ve done gods work here
You'd wanna be real hungry to chomp down on one of those tree molluscs!
What a pleasure to watch. Thank you!

My life revolves around the Supermarkit and the Fry Pan and Fridge.
Thank you for posting these. 🙏
We used to cook a few waterskinks in my home town and eat them with $4 of chips from the local takeaway :)
👍 awesome
Tremendous stuff

How he has not been knighted is beyond me .
There haven't been knighthoods in Australia since 1986
@@ray.shoesmith Didn’t Tony Abbott reintroduce something like that? Might have been duke and dame titles.
i think he is Sir Major
@@joeyjojo4506 yeah he’s a commissioned officer in the ADF. (Well, was retired now) Discharged with the rank of Major.
Does anyone know what the Bush Tucker Man music with the Banjo is called and who’s music is it ? I’d love to purchase it .
I love watching my les hiddens drivng my land rover😄🐧
I reckon in this day and age, he'd have to be pretty careful around the waters now theres a hell of a lot more crocs than when this was filmed in the 80s
@Righteous the numbers have just recovered to what they used to be
18:18 To my palate, syzigium has more of a mild sour apple flavour. Quite pleasant.

Where did you hear that? There’s nothing on the Web saying he’s died.
Last I heard Major Les Hiddins is alive and well living in Cairns får North Queensland
He’s still alive
Love these. No idea why the dude doesn't wear proper trousers to deal with the leeches though! Keep cool, look cool, i guess.
What's the gun for? I always assumed some producer decided he should wear a pistol. I can't think of a single use for a pistol in the Australian NT. Shooting crocodiles?
Revolver even it appears to be
yes it's protection against crocodiles in the case of a surprise encounter.
Cripes hes got a hand cannon straped on his hip 😂
24:36 c’mon now young fella
Good set of teeth on this fulla
Wood clams they aren't worms they are mollusks
