    Right down to the T…
My mechanic couldn’t get a read at all after a severe ice and snow storm early Feb 2022. No crank. No start. All dash lights and everything worked perfectly. It acted like the clutch wasn’t engaging whatsoever and wouldn’t pop start. Towed to my mechanic who diagnosed my 2008 compass no crank no start as a faulty TIPM or worse, fried computer. My gut told me otherwise because it had sat for 24 hours in rain ice and snow with the front end pointed downward. It acted up sometimes after a hard rain… no crank no start. I felt I was doomed. So I listened to my mechanic and bought a used warranted TIPM on eBay. Car didn’t crank or start. I bought a refurb computer. Car STILL didn’t crank or start.
Multiple forums, videos and frustration later, I found this video. It made perfect sense to me! Described it all! When my BF tore it all apart, it was the same. Same green cancer. Same affected plug. Same prong corroded and broke off. Same MF broken wires! After cleaning, electric grease, the replacement plug and mended wires … hit the key and my car turned over just like it was Monday Morning ready for work!! I couldn’t believe it. COMPLETE TEXT BOOK! Thank you so much for the info. 7 weeks later (had to buy a new car to get to work) I am back in love with my 2008 Jeep Compass again! Thanks for the step by step!
How many other compasses are in the junkyard because of this simple fix? Mine was on its way.
    So glad I found this!

Great video!!! I had this very problem with my patriot last year, I had my mechanic do this specific task of removing broken relay prong and cleaning the relay box. He actually told me he learned something new that day. I now regularly check and clean the relay and look out for that green crap in electrical connections. Your video is the best I've seen on how to deal with this common problem. Thanks

With the help of this video, I just fixed the EXACT same problem on a 2015 Compass. And when I say exact I mean it, the relay I pulled out looked identical, same copper post disintegrated in to a pile of green mush. I have few suggestions for the next guy: 1) it was really hard to get the old broken contact out of the junction box so I used a very small drill bit and carefully drilled out most of the gunk, 2) after you get the new terminal connector wired up and fitted in to the junction box, use a multimeter to perform a continuity check before you go any further. The post you just replaced should have continuity to three of the other relays in the same post position, 3) make sure you buy the 3/16 inch (.187) sized terminals from the auto parts store, they come in other larger sizes and I almost grabbed the wrong one, this size works perfectly. Thank you Git It Garage!!

@@jhunt9666 If your relay is like the video, where one post has disintegrated into green mush, then yes you will need to remove the whole junction box just like as in the video and it will take some work. But if you have some skills and a couple hours of time, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars.

Thank you so much, this is an awesome step by step repair video. My son's 2008 Jeep Compass 2.4 L had exactly the same corroded pin on the ASD Relay. The previous owner was having no start problems 2 to 3 times a year so this must have been getting progressively worse over time. I found that I could not get the same connector in the video to fit all the way back up in the slot easily. I found a smaller connector size on Amazon which I was able to fit with shrink tube over the wire connector repair which worked perfectly. Total repair cost In Canada was less than $100. Thanks again!!

GREAT JOB! My son owns a demonic 2016 Compass, and aside from replacing EVERYTHING having to do with steering and suspension, this is my next repair. The car is being towed here from his job 50 miles away as I type this. Watched a few repair videos for the problem, and yours is BY FAR the best one I've seen! Hopefully while I'm making this repair I'll find and fix a 4WD failure that I'm told originates in the same box! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Recommend fixing the issue of the water running down the wiring harness or the problem will come back again. Even if you add the silicone fusion tape, the water works its way down the inside of the bundle of the wiring harness. The tape will aid the water to stay in the bundle and cause the same problem again.

two weeks ago it rained four days non stop, on the last rainy evening whent for a spin 45milles there and back, parked the jeep , it was still raining, the next morning,, crank no start. Surched within the same area as you did here and noticed there was little corrosion at that same relay pin so, I clean both pin and female and make sure of conductivity, still, crank no start, I also removed the harness tape from the relays up to where the harness splits and inspect all conductivitys at the relays, I switched or swaped relays, I've tested all fuses,
battery full charge all the time,,, could it be the ecm or pcm is,,dead?😒

@@DaltonRimmerGTO I ended up adding a push-button switch to the starter, by running a wire from the starter solenoid to the switch, and then a wire from the switch to the positive battery post. (recommended by a mechanic friend of mine)
Then, you put the key in the ignition, turn it, and when nothing happens, push the button you just installed, and it should work! After a few days using the button, the jeep began starting up by itself and I haven't had to use the button since then (but it's still attached just in case)

I resigned the problem is deeper than just the relay as it sounds like a fuel problem now so I’m putting it back together to find it won’t fit through the plastic cover. It was the problem. It wouldn’t crank initially. I had to disconnect and reconnect the relay and some wires and then it finally turned over. Idk why it delayed initially. Car ran great after that. Did complete fluid change, pads rotors and tires on all 4 corners, tierod end and rear upper control arms then sold it shortly after

I have the same issue with my 08 jeep patriot, except my high beams are not activating. The car starts and runs fine. Could this problem be linked to the high beams not activating? Thanks for the video.

    Isn’t that the fan relay?

    • @vdelperdang
      @vdelperdang 4 года назад +1

that one is the fan relay, however the wiring diagram shows it is jumpered to the ASD from the power side, since it is corroded the ASD gets no power.

Quick fix is taking that box off the frame and just mount it right next to the battery frame.

Your showing a picture of a newer Jeep when you aren’t working on that same kind of Jeep. It’s misleading and dishonest.
