@crimsonredkingdom2656 and orochimaru still summoned the hokage to fight against old hirzuen and hiruzen didn't fold immediately. Although to be fair the Reincarnation wasnt perfect yet. But the fact that orochimaru did that at all, means that he was still weary of his power.
Plus, remember Tobirama chose to fight the gold and silver Brothers alone in place of hiruzen to be a distraction in order to end up winning the war. Before he did that, he named hirzuen hokage. If Tobirama chose to do that, then it means that Hirzuen was either already surpassed Tobirama or was going to surpass him very soon, so he was comfortable leaving the village in his hands. Plus I believe hirzuen mastered all the jutsu that tobirama created. If so, then it makes sense that he would be OP.

@@crimsonredkingdom2656 The part about Hiruzen "winning easily" against Orochimaru if he had been 10 years younger is a baseless yet common misrepresentation. Orochimaru simply thought, "If you had been even just 10 years younger, you might have been able to kill me," after both he and Hiruzen realized how much of a struggle the soul extraction was. In that context, the thought refers to the efficacy of Hiruzen's Reaper Death Seal rather than an overall appraisal of his battle performance. Nothing about this indicates how well a younger Hiruzen would have fared against Orochimaru.
What about the flashback, which implied that Orochimaru lived only because Hiruzen let him go? The Orochimaru of that time isn't the same as the Orochimaru who attacked Konoha. The latter (with more knowledge, techniques, experience, and body mods) is likely stronger.

Hiruzen himself stated that he was no match for Orochimaru even before they fought--i.e. before he learned Orochimaru had Edo Tensei.
Had Orochimaru in fact been "weary" of Hiruzen, then he wouldn't have taken it so easy and gloated and laughed. He would have fought with the intent to kill from the beginning. The truth is that he played around too much and the Reaper Death Seal took him by surprise.

One apparent retcon that I find annoying is how the Rinne Rebirth was changed to always killing the user afterward, when it was originally suggested that Nagato only would have died that first time we saw it because his chakra was too low before using it (Konan is shown complaining about it). It was already established in Part 1 that if you exhaust all of your remaining chakra to force a jutsu (when you don't have enough to do it normally), you would die.

@@faith4657 At the very least, I think the change wasn't necessary. But also, because they're two different conditions that carry different implications for that technique in-universe, as well as the characters using them. When the War Arc asserted the changed condition of the technique always killing its user, that had different implications for how Obito and Madara acted than how they otherwise might have acted if the death condition would have only occurred to Obito if he was forced to use it while draining his chakra reserve to zero. If Madara forced Obito to use Rinne Rebirth and it wouldn't have killed him when his chakra wasn't low enough, then Black Zetsu probably wouldn't have been needed to preserve Obito's life, and if Obito were to die fighting against Kaguya, then it probably would have been under different starting circumstances than "he was going to die eventually anyway after using Rinne Rebirth."

Danzo's entire existence is just a massive list of retcons.
Danzo's entire motivation was to make sure Konoha was the strongest and most powerful village, but then does stuff like manipulate the Uchiha into a coup so he can justify killing them. The Uchiha, at this time, are inarguably the single most powerful clan in the world and the greatest ace of the Leaf village.
Danzo is also not politically powerful enough or strong enough to contend for the position of Hokage. Even though he's replaced like half his body with Hashirama cells, has Wood style mastered, embedded multiple Sharingan in his body and mastered them, and has an instantaneous "fuck you I win" mind control sharingan. With Hashirama cells, he could have had an army of Sharingan Root Anbu and didn't, for some reason.
Everything about Danzo was designed to make Itachi "not a bad guy" but rhe justification for Danzo's motivations is rendered null and void because literally all of his actions harm the leaf.

@@faith4657 It is not your job as a fan to create theories and act like they are the answer. If something has no canon answer, then you say there is no answer and give your best guess as to what an answer COULD be if you tried to draw some lines. But if I don't buy it, then leave it be.
This is not what Naruto fans do, however, as the vast majority just cling onto theories and ideas and accept them as canon when they have NO sourced backing whatsoever and will fight you tooth and nail on it as if you're crazy for not going along with it.
Naruto fans have long gotten the reputation of being a stubborn and overly defensive fanbase PRECISELY because of the unwillingness to accept that Naruto isn't a perfect story, as if that somehow detracts from the value of it. Don't try to make an excuse for it, it's bad behavior. If someone doesn't like your theory or doesn't even want it, then guess what? Your theory isn't canon, it is a educated guess at best, so it doesn't matter anyway!

@SalvadorDolbyvsZAWARUDO But what I'm saying is why do you care so much, you have to remember the only reason they do this is cause it's to please the same people that think.forgetting or not having answers makes the series bad or detracts from the story as a whole. It's no wonder people think Naruto fans are annoying cause they have taken BS from a majority of people for no reason when loving their own show and have to defend all the time. You can't blame people for trying to find some form of justification, though not canon to the story cause it's the only thing that might make sense. Yes, some of the theories would be hard to believe, but again, it's just a theory we can call them out on it, but that shouldn't decrease the show overall. Like the beef between OP and Naruto fans is a perfect example of this notion.

So firstly you can't be talking about NC, because he is a Naruto fan. Secondly, you can't be talking about me because I am a Naruto fan.
      Thirdly,
"Why do you care so much"? It's literally in the first post. They argue ad nauseam something that isn't even true and won't back down when confronted with the idea their theory is not correct or canon. That is annoying, bad behavior. If I'm trying to talk to you, don't give me your theory if I don't want your theory. That's cut and dry. Shut up and move on. If your theory isn't canon, and I tell you it's not canon and thus I don't accept it, that's also the point where you should stop talking about it. Again, Naruto fans often do not stop when they should. They keep pushing and fighting and goodness have mercy if you dare say something is a PLOT HOLE.
You're making an awful lot of excuses for this behavior so I have to assume you probably do it too. Hell you're even romanticizing the issue to an extent. The series is not a child, it doesn't need people to "Defend" it. It's an imperfect work written by an imperfect human with imperfections that can and should be pointed out if you want to have a deeper discussion about it.
Because more often than not, you're going to need to. That doesn't stop people from enjoying it, doesn't make it less enjoyable, but it's not something worth the level of idolatry so many fans put it on.
The fans, in no way, are the victims of some big misunderstanding. They are the perpetrators of being overly defensive and annoying WHENEVER a critique comes up and rushing to use non-canon information to back themselves up while trying to argue like you're the crazy one. And you're being a pretty good example of that right now, actually.

I mean the groundwork was certainly set before hand, they emphasized that dead ninja bodies need to be destroyed because information and stuff can be gleaned from dead ninja bodies. Eyes can be taken and used so why not other cells and organs? and hashirama was clearly a special ninja because he used wood style, or should I say tree-making style lol.

I don’t necessarily think the Hiruzen statement is a retcon. There’s so much lore and history we’re missing regarding previous wars, and stuff that wasn’t fully fleshed out. This is how you can square that circle so Hiruzen can possibly still be the strongest Hokage ever. We do that by saying prime Hiruzen is the strongest Hokage however he declined in his old age which is true. It’s stated that if Hiruzen was ten years younger when he fought Orochimaru he could’ve won easily but in his old age he lost. It’s not hard to realize there are some minor plot holes in Naruto however some of them with a little critical thinking you can square these circled so to speak.

Kaguya had the byakugan and rinnesharingan, then Hagoromo got the rinnegan and Hamura got byakugan. Sharingan and rinnegan began as the same thing then split off, so it makes sense that they are related. Byakugan was its own thing from the beginning, and only got passed on through the moon shinobi (which didn’t exactly make a strong appearance in the show), so I’d say it makes sense that its users aren’t as prominent as say the Uchiha, who have been at war for centuries honing their skills

To be fair, we never saw Hirizen at his most powerful. He was an old man or a young pup when we see him. But even as an old man, he single handedly pushed Kurama out of the village.
Add to that strength because we're guessing at his prime. Plus knowing EVERY jutsu. And a tactical mind. I could see him being at the 1st and 2nd levels. Maybe even being able to beat them.
I doubt the 2nd could spam flying thunder god when he was alive. Remember, he was a constantly regenerating edo when doing that. And while Hashirama was a beast in chakra, he still had a limit. He put himself at equal to Naruato(with Kurama), and we've seen them get worn out.
So a smart fighter like the 3rd could maybe still beat them. The issue is that Madara and 1 and 2 had these big flashy Jutsus that made them stoppable as edo. But who knows how many times they could use them when alive. Could the 1st have used the creation of the forest one and the wood statue in the same fight? Maybe, maybe not. If he could, then I don't see how Madara would have EVER been close to his level when alive. The dude needed edo and Hashirama cells AND a ten tails to be a monster.
So, while the first and 2nd were beasts, they were benefiting from being zombies. While the 3rd didn't get much benefit from that other than the undieing body. He still used clones to counter the ten tail attack with elements. Dude wasn't a pushover.

The thing about Hiruzen is that...he has almost no feats. And the feats he does have- are skewed or limited. Like when he battled Orochimaru people brought up his age and how it would be so much easier for him if he was 10 years younger and even then he was already very old at that point. And during the war arc the only feats he really has is countering the Geto statue. Which is impressive because the statue was a Hashirama Level feat with multiple nature techniques applied to it.

That's kind of how the real world goes too. We always favor current figures over past figures. Even if the past ones were really much more important of powerful or whatever. I wouldn't think of it as a recon, but a revelation if how the current day has lost touch with the past.

The Hashirama-Tsunade "retcon" theory of Nick is based of a head canon where he believes that Hashirama married Mikoto when the leaf was formed, however that is stated nowhere, and there's kind of nothing to support it...

A lot of things from original Naruto are retconned. But I think that helped mangaka who came after have an overall direction and plan. I think shows like bleach and one piece who were popular around the same time never dealt with this cause even though they were written in similar fashion they tried to introduce things when the main character was there so we feel like we learned the same time Luffy and ichigo learn. But Naruto jumps around so much it gets muddy

My favorite retcon is the entirety of the "Tailed Beasts" and "Jinchuriki" plotline. It's a genuinely fun and interesting aspect of the series, and it didn't exist at all until Shippuden, with the Nine Tails and One Tail being retconned into not just being part of a set, but a set much larger than just the two of them.
Retcons aren't always bad. Generally speaking, they're usually written into a story for a reason. They can often be genuine improvements to the story that address issues or just make something more cool than it would have been otherwise. The quality of a retcon isn't based on whether something was changed, but in how it was handled. If a change is too drastic and/or handled in a way that's too blatant of a contradiction to what's already established, it's probably a bad retcon. On the other hand, if the change is handled in a way that makes the reader/viewer feel like it's a natural enough progression of the knowledge they already have and makes them feel hype, it's a good one. A pretty big list of people's favorite things from fictional media in general are a result of retcons.

Combining retcons into one coherent story is what makes Naruto fun to watch:
Hiruzen was the strongest Hokage IF we're only talking about base forms. Since he knew all the jutsus in Konoha other than kekkei genkais, he could've known how to use all the jutsus all the other hokages knew, and the best counter for it

I agree, at this point somone has to work from the end, backwards and remake the manga to fit all of the retcons into it... I love Naruto the most out of the big 3, but at this point they even got rid of handsigns until they remembered that in the last fight they where needed for most jutsu. Best example, Kakashi vs Zabuza 1 and last Naruto vs Sasuke.

Dude we didn’t see hiruzen in his prime only old age. But when he is brought back via edo, it does showcase how powerful he is. I mean 5 shadow clones and each one doing each nature style as powerful as someone who has an affinity for one….. each one he did was like he had an affinity for each style.

As a Naruto fan, I hate a lot of the retcons & twists revealed in Part II/Shippuden; especially the ones in the Anime & Boruto which try to make Kaguya look sympathetic when her & Black Zetsu are responsible for nearly everything in the franchise.
Not to mention the entire story boils down to Kaguya giving Chakra to the world then deciding she wants to take it back.

I feel like that last one was just on you for believing anime Filler Cannon.
Yes the "Ten-Tails are God Tree Seeds that eat Otsutsuki" is a Retcon but it's a Retcon in the way the Kakashi/Obito flashbacks are a Retcon. They are Kishimoto going back and properly explaining lore & events that already happend, literally it is Retroactive Continuity. Bringing up the anime only lore of Kaguya & the God Tree doesn't count as a "changed the lore" retcon.
