Mk7 has done pretty well for itself, I own a premium package mk5 GTI with a DSG transmission. It's fantastic, however even with top tier maintenance on my car, around 140,000 miles it starts to cost a bit in replacement parts. I had to replace my camshaft inlet and outlet, my timing chain, fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump, fuel regulator, coil packs, ECU, and all of those parts in total cost around $2,300+. That's not including all the parts I had to replace, however after replacing those parts it runs just as good as new, just be aware it costs some money to keep this thing running to 300k+ miles even with superb maintenance.
I would keep your eye on good survivor stock MK5 GTI's. In 3-5 years I expect them to go up in value 10 to 15k. Why? Because most have been modified like crazy, are in terrible condition, have too many miles, or have been scrapped. Hence there will be very few if any still on the road in 5 years time.
The GTI MK5 is the worst build GTI all times, broken springs, rusty parts al over the place. Rust on the front about the wheels, cracking sounds from the dash, roofliner is coming down....happy that I sold my Edition 30. One plus the extreme ED30 power. Have fun guys.
This has got to be one of VW's best work. MK5 must have been a huge risk, but it was definitely worth it. Also, 120K as a starting price sounds reasonable, considering the practicality of the car. Ownership costs make sense. Only question is, where do you get a G5 that is this clean? Also, if you still have that GTI poster, we need to see it hahaha.
Mk5 GTI is the best GTI generation so far, my is a 2007 Manuel in Candy White BWA engine with factory power boost to 170kw. My forever car for sure.
Can't afford one yet, but i can not wait to own one... My dream car !!
Manual gearbox is even better. The best car I’ve ever owned. Still regret selling it.

My Mk5 GTI is 16 years old and my roof lining has also sagged and flaps in the wind!
Oh, it's a known problem with the mk5's. Many of the cars suffer from. Mine is not an exception xD
Still looks beautiful almost 20 years later
Aged like fine wine. Thanks for watching
