    This is awesome. I've got a manual 2007 mk5 gti, it's currently stage 2+ with APR, has an exceptionally long mod list and puts out about 215kw. Sitting about 9cm off the ground and honestly never loved a car more than this thing. Would really recommend for anyone looking to get into a relatively affordable hot hatch

    Have owned mk1 golf , mk2 gti, mk5 gti, mk6 gti, mk7 gti. The 5 was epic, loved it from the first drive , we took it to 200,000km !! , lots of trips to Ikea, grandma in the back, towed our box trailer to the max even with 5 adults on board too - the mk5 was a total revelation and will always be our most memorable golf. The GTi is great if you have only one car to do everything. Mk8 hasn’t done it for us , so recently have a VW Arteon for practicality and Alpine A110 for fun (2 cars to replace a GTI) - great review thanks.

      Great comment. Ive had 2 of the late 80's mk2 lil 8 valve gti's, and then a '98 jetta vr6, oh and a late 70's or '80'ish dasher hatch when i was like 17, lol.. been a long time since i had a gti, and im fully in love with the 4 door mk5 looks and reading about it!
      Hoping to buy either a mk5 gti or a mazdaspeed3 this week, hopefully i find the right one!!

      @@GolfgtiguyI owned a 2007 mk5 gti for 12 years (2010-2022) and bought after that a 2015 mk7 gti. The mk5 gti has much better seats and sittingposition. The car felt rocksolid. Only problem: oilconsumption. Biggest advantage of the mk7 gti: better engine, with notably more low end torque (+ 70 Nm) and less fuel consumption. On paper the better car, but I still miss the mk5 gti.

    Spot on review of the mk5 gti. I have one myself. Have driven the mk6,7 and 7.5 gti for fairly long drives and when i get back in the mk5 it just feels like it has something the rest are missing. Im sure the 8 will be the same. Something about the power delivery, handling and overall cohesion with driver is something no other hot hatch ive driven can offer. (Not driven the i30n though)

    In my 16th years with my MK5 GTI 2007 MANUAL model (bought in 2008) and still loving it. Also in white. Every day I drive it is still a pleasure. These cars never feel old, yet are already a classic! One of the things that does go wrong is the roof lining material which, in mine, has started to sag.

    I just upgraded my 2005 mk5 electric blue GTi for an i30N. And as sensational as the i30N is, I miss the mk5 very much - such an engaging drive but keeping it on the road was getting pricey. I don’t think I’d describe the steering as light but I was on 18” wheels. Also not often mentioned is how good the speakers are - having tried a bunch of hot hatches in 2021 - none of them had anything as good.

    • @jacktomis1743

      hey do you reckon a mk5 is worth it now? or will it cost too much to keep on the road?

    • @Lifeisnot4sale
      @Lifeisnot4sale 2 года назад +1

      @@jacktomis1743 For the driving experience and classy interior, it still feels like modern car. 100% worth it. The cost of keeping it on the road is down to how well looked after it has been. Nothing went wrong with my engine, not even once. But corroded springs, front wings and seat wear added up to 1000s in repairs - it wasn't worth it for me. If I had the disposable income and time, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy a mk5 and restore it to former glory. That floor hinged accelerator was awesome!

    Love the MK5. I owned a MK6 GTi and was disappointed. I think the MK5 looked better, sounded better and had much better steering feel than the 6 and possessed far more character. I went onto buy a MK7.5R which I loved (MK8? VW gave up caring by then) but I think the MK5 was what saved the GTi brand. Just a pity that VW has basically given up with the sporty car market. The cars they sell today feel more like appliances controlled by clever electronics. I’ve since moved onto a GR Yaris and have never regretted it.

  • @Superbustr
    @Superbustr 2 года назад +1

    That mk5 gti is in great condition on the outside but in abysmal condition in the inside. I have had a mk5 gti since new. The only noticeable wear is slight scuffing of the stick shift badge, steering wheel badge, some wear to the fabric driving seat and a broken air vent regulator in the back seat area. The sunroof still works, all the front vents are working, the light switch is working, the clutch is still good without having a change and the original gps front console works (although needs updating for new roads).
    -If you store your car in a covered parking garage at home the sun roof will not break or start to leak.

    I have a 2009 one of these beauties since I bought it second hand in 2013. I have it almost 11 years now with absolutely no intention of parting company with it, ever lol. She's a manual with 214,000km on the clock as of yesterday and still goes like a bastard when I ask her to. There has been a few issues over the years but nothing at all serious though. A few bushings and my top brake light just went on the fritz recently so that needs replacing. CV boots have both been replaced but the headlining is gone way worse than yours. I must definitely fix that soon but it's my only car so any repair jobs I can't handle mean that I have no car while they're getting fixed and that is why it wasn't done already. Best car I ever owned, longest term of ownership, most mileage on any car I had, fastest I ever owned and now the oldest car I ever owned at almost 15 years old. I could go on but I'd probably be incriminating myself 🤣.

Cheaper & more practical body styles with exactly the same mechanicals (including the highly reliable & tunable EA113 FSI) that are actually screwed together better by the Czechs than the Germans. Fortunately the majority of the Australian public have no idea about Skoda’s so the prices are soft.
