How does the lack of an LSD affect a Golf 5 GTI, especially when you start tuning it? I’d be interested in your view on that. I’m considering getting one, but I’m put off by the lack of an LSD.
And LSD is supposed to get you out of tricky situations when the axle you're sending power to is struggling to put down the grip. Typically speaking, a FWD car doesn't really require one to be honest and the GTI definitely doesn't seem to need one at all
I have to agree. Apart from the interior parachute mod, it's an highly spec'd car. From sunroof to folding mirrors, it's a lot of car for 4k especially a 2008 model
If we're talking stock for stock, the GTI has a fair bit of turbo lag and it runs out of steam pretty quickly. The R32 is very linear and is consistent. The gap is reduced when the GTI is tuned and that's where it comes down to preference. Personally, I respect the GTI but I love the noise of the R32 and it's engineering marvel of having a large engine in a small car.
The R32 unfortunately isn't a fast car by modern standards. It has pace but it's not what I'd call a fast car. The fact it's got 4WD means the power is put down effortlessly which means it doesn't even feel like it's struggling to put all that power down. I'd say one thing that's overlooked is driving the car in manual mode if it's a DSG. Because you are in control of the revs, you can really enjoy it
They're extremely tunable cars so you can't be upset at the fact most of them have been so heavily modified and it's such a common car that naturally people want to stand out
@@CarNitty Im not arguing against tuning Im arguing for taste lol, tuning affects nothing visually, and these cars where gorgeous in OEM but now you cant find one that hasn't at some point been upside down in a McDonalds carpark with a rear wiper delete and an eBay special carbon VW badge.
It's just the crowds they attract. What else can be said? I do love OEM+ myself but if people choose to express themselves via their cars then I say fair game
The only thing I can disagree on is the gearbox issue ... I've just bought a red 3 door mk5 with tartan and manual just because to me it's iconic .... but of course we all different 😊
I agree with the tartan seats. Very GTI and I love the Ed30 interior for that reason alone and a manual box is also true to its original form but the DSG is such a powerful tool for the TFSI block
Agree with ya , have the same car... Just one mistake.... YOU NEED A MANUAL GEARBOX TO EXPERIENCE GTI,S CORNERING HANDLING AND TRAFFIC ZIG-ZAG.... IM 48 BEEN THROUGH MANY CARS ITS MY FIRST VW and i like it
@@CarNitty yes bro. Manual all the way. Well tbh I made sure my gti was manual! Haha the hunt was real 4 years ago. I love my manual gti. My first vehicle was a 91 civic manual as well 5 speed pretty fun aha
He bought the car with them but I assume they're bought off an online marketplace taken off a salvaged car or they buy brand new parts designed for the car they're replicating such as the R32 or 8P S3
No chance! The MK6 just lacks a good looking rear end even on an R. It isn't worth the extra money over the MK5 either. It just wasn't a big enough leap
To be honest I was going to purchase an R32 as I love the rear end aswell but bro it’s not actually practical to own when you’re gonna be pissing off your neighbours and I work night shifts in residential areas so I can’t really drive the r32 it’s gonna be too loud so I opted for a GTI and I will also be doing the r32 rear end to me it’s not like upbadging it’s for the looks with the usability
As an R32 owner, I can tell you right now that you won't annoy your neighbours if you buy one. I have a Scorpion exhaust and there's no loud cold start. If you're able to buy one, don't let the opportunity pass
@@CarNitty unfortunately I say this with a heavy heart I did have to opt out of buying one, I opted for the GTI, I’m happy where I work and wouldn’t wanna lose my job due to noise although I know I will always regret not going and owning one. However I did purchase a very well kept sub 60k mk5 gti stock so that’s nice will have for many years if I don’t decide to sell up
I think it's a shame you've missed that opportunity. I would have done my research before deciding against it but I guess it wasn't meant to be. The R32s are getting more and more expensive so it seems it's the last chance to buy before a good one is over 10k
@@CarNitty I know they aren’t literally facelifts. But the aesthetic differences between a mk6 & 7 are really minor, and the differences between a mk7.5 & 8 are even less so
That's because interior wise, the MK7 wasn't as revolutionary as it should've compared to the MK6 so I understand your point but the MK8 is completely different and I'm definitely not a fan
Yes it could have but the owner of the car was adamant he won't wash the car until he's modified it. Now, j haven't seen the car with a spec if dirt on it now. Check out his Instagram to see how the car looks now
@@CarNitty no you don’t have to tune it mate 😂 you can leave it as stock and sell it for what it’s worth. No one wants a crappy tampered nodded car to buy pal. Only nittys like yourself

I get why they do it. The R32 looks amazing even in stock form but it doesn't get treated as harshly as putting quad exhausts on a non M car for some reason!
4 grand for this is a con. I got one for 60k miles for that price and it’s stock😂 Mapping these cars just to make the engine get weaker over time 😂 no chance
How long ago did you buy yours? These have gone up in even more value. Also, I found this GTI to be a bit dull out of the box. I've been in tuned ones and they're actually crazy cars
The DSG in this car is the first auto gearbox I can think of that's faster than a manual box. This gearbox was a huge thing back then and I can't blame anyone that wants lightning quick shifts
@@CarNitty completely missed the point I made, dsg is nothing more than a fast auto, you want a driver engagement car then Manual is the only way. I don't look at 0-60 figures, when you want control of your car, dsg is a complete let down. Nice for those comfort drives. Cheap to fix you say?
500 - £680 for a cambelt and water pump and it's every 4 years . It's around £240 on an Alfa Twinspark.
