    I just wanted to note that I just bought my Portable Painter palette in June and there are some differences to Brian's. First, the pans are in there really snugly now and you have to use a little plier to get them out. Obviously the company paid attention to the reviews and fixed that issue, which is great. Also, it now comes with a thick rubber band that allows you to hold the little metal clasp safely, to keep it from getting lost. You can also hold a paper towel or brushes in the rubber band. It's great!

    Never apologize for reviewing a product that others have reviewed. Everyone has their work style and preferences, so the reviews are not all the same. What may appeal to one person might not to someone else. Adaptations you have made for your work style might be helpful to another viewer.

    I have been looking at getting one of these. I thought the same thing when I saw it, about the smaller mixing area, a little too small. I hope you'll continue to make video's, good content! And I hope you'll take us on your adventures as well :)

    I hope you love your portable palette as much as I do. I put slightly thicker temporary glue dots under pans and change out convience colors if for instance painting animals or the beach. Keep extra pans in dollar store bandage container because they fix perfectly. Because of my age and partially disabled I have to travel light but with everything I need. This palette makes perfect sense. This was a through review. Good job!

      Marjorie Johnson Thank you! That's a great idea to use the glue dots to keep the pans in place. I kind of wish I had done something like that instead of just filling the empty wells. I've found it a bit difficult to clean with running water, from time to time, without getting water in my paints. I do really enjoy the palette, though. It's a nice solution to being able to have good-sized water reservoirs in a small, compact package.

    Love the adjustment can't wait to do it to mine and the bag for your other palette is a really good solution and it looks well done.

    Totally agree about the mixing wells. Not nitpicky at all.
    Also, your wife wants her hair ties back!

      missusparsons Ha, ha! They are mine, now!!! Bwa ha ha ha!! Yeah, I wish they would make the side panels available separately. It would be so great to replace it, easily, with another 3 well side.

    Perhaps you could use a small dremel tool to gently grind away a couple of the well walls on the crowded mixing side. Seeing as you have two palettes, could be worth the risk to modify one to try and get a palette that is more functional for you. Personally, i would love to see a version made with 6-8 full pans and the six larger mixing areas (3 on each side).

      Mel E That is such a great idea!! Wish I had thought of that. I think I’m actually going to do that. I had thought about combining two of them to make one with good trays on both sides. However, it didn’t seem worth it to sacrifice one and, basically, pay double for one perfect one. Thanks for the idea! 👍

      Mel E I also like the idea for one with full pans. PP could make a slightly larger one that could accommodate full pans, too.

      I would love a small video showing the result if you do it.

    There's that terrible "music" again!! Your videos are too educational to use that. Get rid of it.

    I'm confused. (Not by this review, however) I've watched several reviews of the PP and some say it comes with a silicone band that does what your hair tie does. Others say that it comes with adhesive dots to hold the pans in. The Amazon description didn't mention these. Like i said, confused.

      Hi, my review is of the Portable Palette not long after it’s release. Over time, they’ve added the band and adhesive dots to the palette in response to users’ feedback. If you were to buy one now, my guess would be that it would include the new additions.

      Brian Ashmore Studio yes it does. I have bought 3 of them, 1 being from Amazon & it comes with the band & the adhesive dots.

    Will you share your choice of colors in that pallete? They look quite muted and interesting selection of paints.

    • @brianashmorestudio
      @brianashmorestudio  6 лет назад +1

      Elga Benedicta Hi Elga! I don't feel like I use muted colors but maybe I do. Ha, ha. I do tend to use very staining, transparent colors so they may tend to look muted in full capacity in the wells. I tend to do a lot of glazing (hence, the staining colors) but have been getting away from that more recently. I try to use a limited palette to help with color harmony throughout the paintings. Here are the colors I use from most used to rarely used... Winsor Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Winsor Blue, Paynes Gray, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Veridian, Hookers Green, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, and Sepia. I tend to use the first 5 colors on the list most often and the others pretty sparingly.

      Greetings! Since replying, I've done a video on my colors, if you haven't seen it. It goes over the colors I use and a watercolor technique called glazing.

    Hi Brian I like to set up but the plastic looks kind of cheap or is it the camera

    • @brianashmorestudio
      @brianashmorestudio  6 лет назад

      art art The palette is plastic but it doesn't feel cheap. It has a lot of "give" like you could bend it a great deal before it would crack or break. So, maybe it's the camera. 😁
