  • Welcome to my channel. Today we are decorating mugs with slip, underglaze and vinyl stencils. The Deer stencils I am using in this video are made by my good pottery friend Karen and can be purchased via her Etsy Shop using this link:
    www.etsy.com/u...
    The underglaze transfers were sourced from Ceramica transfers and their shop can be accessed via their website at www.ceramicatransfers.com
    I show the whole technique of how to decorate mugs with a Deer and Stag design, building the layers of decoration in this full tutorial.
    I hope you follow along - do remember to send me a photo via my website if your make your own version.
    Thanks for tuning in. Regards Sarah Amos

    Sara, this was interesting and doable. I also want to thank you for not playing music in the background while you’re giving instructions. Many RUclipsrs have music going the entire time they’re explaining what they’re doing. I have a hearing loss. As a result, background noise makes it very difficult for me to follow what’s being said. I really appreciate that your tutorials get right down to business. They are easy to understand and follow.

      Thanks so much Michele. It was a bit of an epic production 😎. These tutorials take ages to prep all the work, get the transfers in stock, ask the lovely Karen to produce the vinyl stickers and then actually film and edit. I love doing them because I love sharing the passion of clay. Thanks so much for your kind words- they mean a lot 😊 ❤️

    Very nice tutorial.
    Could you use stencils with underglaze transfers and liquid underglaze (in lieu of slip) and get the same results?
    Thanks 🌹

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching. I find using underglaze for the background can have more of a vintage brushed look than slip which is more opaque. Otherwise can't see why not! Always a thousand ways to interpret an idea 😊

    Thank you for another fabulous video. What keeps the sticky stencil from pulling up some of the underglaze transfer when you remove the stencil?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching. I let the underglaze transfers dry before applying the stencils. Not had any problems with the transfers underneath. Only takes a couple of minutes to dry. Hope that helps 😊

    👍 Could the trees and deer be layered so as to give the appearance that the deer are emerging from the woods?
    Great tute.

    WOW...Sarah, I am loving your sponge on a stick! (besides OF COURSE YOUR TECHNIQUE WITH THIS PIECE!!) but here in the US we dont have such an item! I would be very very curious (and very much appreciated) if you can let me know where, perhaps, I might be able to get one of those! Thanks in advance for ANY info you might provide.

    • @thepotterycorner

      Hi Eileen and thanks for watching. You can use underglaze and underglaze transfers on bisque but not slip which can only be used on greenware. Hope that helps. 😊

    Excellent videos. Great teaching style. Can I use any vinyl decals I find on Etsy? I’m assuming yes. Didn’t care for the three designs your friend has to offer. They’re very nice, but not for me.

      Hi Lisa and thanks so much for watching. Yes - you definitely could do this. Adding the slips/stencils in a different order would give you this appearance. Thanks Sarah

    Hi, I am wondering if the colored slip needs to be made out of the same clay as the piece was made from?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Cindy and thanks for watching. Yes the slip is made from the same clay body. There's a bit on how to make your own slip in my video on Preparation for monoprinting- that might help 😊

    Have my question #1 layout underglaze image and over rap adhere stencil image.... I must try, any image of underglaze doo not
    Come off from clay. ❓❓❓

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  7 месяцев назад

      Hi and thanks so much for watching. If you let the first layer of underglaze dry it shouldn't pull off with stencils application over the top. Just need to be careful when peeling off. Hope that helps 🙏 🙂

    So there is slip on the transfer?

    • @thepotterycorner
      @thepotterycorner  2 месяца назад

      Hi Linda and thanks for watching. On some versions I slip over the transfer and then pull the transfer and the slip off to reveal the slip colour underneath. Hope that helps.
