We bought our RV 6 years ago at Camping World, Mesa and even Camping World allowed us to write into the contract, "contingent on passing an NRVIA inspection to our satisfaction." The inspector came in and found that the roof needed sealing (sound familiar?), got us 2 new batteries and 6 new tires. Received over 100-page report on a $70k 2012 25-1/2 foot motorhome! Cost was $750 with oil analysis and Camping World made the necessary sealing repairs and replacements which would have cost us over $2,000. We'll take that deal every day!

Regarding the refrigerator smell. It is possible to clean them up eliminate smell and bacteria. We had power go out while our rv was stored and a freezer with meat in it got hot. Although it was tedious work, we took every part out of that fridge and freezer and bleached and used baking soda to get it pristine again. It just takes time.

There is one legal channel that says to buy these RVs with your eyes open even if new and preferably not. Roof leaks can be hard to find at times until after damage is done. I use the sniff test when we look for and buy RV’s. I have a lifetime of super sensitivity with respiratory issues and allergies, so when I step in the door I can take one or two sniffs and give it an immediate fail if I get a whiff of mold or mildew before anyone else can tell it., which all too often is the case with what looked like a beautiful rig.

A Ford dealer sold a truck out from under me and I even had it in writing that I had dibs on the truck and what time they told me I should be there to get the truck, (I arrived a half hour early and they already had another buyer test-driving it and sold it to them before I could even see it). Infuriating. I think they do it on purpose to pressure buyers to hurry up and make a commitment.
So I'm getting the impression if a person buys a new RV the first thing they should do is go through and reseal everything because the guys at the factory really do a crappy job. LOL

I have been looking at campers to travel and live in since I took an early retirement 14.5 months ago and I shopped around and all the RV sales location I have learn one thing. They all promise you the world but after you buy it’s like pulling teeth from a pissed off grizzly bear. So I held off on buying any and read a lot of reviews and about I started seeing videos and reviews of people having nothing but trouble out of their RVs. I’ve never been sold on slide outs. And just like everything else there is always maintenance on them. I don’t think people understands that you have to constantly do maintenance on them. So 3 months ago i decided to buy a teardrop camper. I love it. Not sure if I ever with but a big one to live in. I can’t see going out and spending a small fortune to live like a homeless person. If you spend 100k plus for a tv you shouldn’t have to do maintenance for at least 5 years but I see where people do. That’s why their warranties only last a short time because they know it also.

Good video and appears to be a good inspection of an ~8 year old RV. Unfortunately life steps in with that old adage that " Money Talks, $%#@ Walks" with way too many people and that a handshake deal is really not a binding contract, especially if not witnessed. Myself, those roof joints that were never maintained with a tube or two of Dicor may have been a deal breaker anyhow. Toilets - those look like low buck Dometic porcelain and easily replaced. Smelly fridges can be easily cleaned (ALL RVs have fridges that smell a bit) as can the shower. What would be the biggest concern would be engine and tires. Has that $$$ diesel engine had regular service and are the tires within 5-6 years old, especially in a far south state.
    Keep up the good work!!

Any RV that requires sealant is trash. It should all have flashing and be layered so water will not go into the vehicle just like with any car without all this sealant. Sealant is what they do to temp fix a bad design. They 100% can list odors on an inspection just like anything they see. Why do they think they cant write down some of the problems like odors?? It is not against any law.

Maintenance neglect is a H-U-G-E problem as it is very time consuming, costly and difficult to find. Finding a qualified technician with the experience chops to make good repairs is even more important than the purchase of any RV. You are doing a great job but you are unfortunately perpetuating the idea that a good seal is consisting of piling every three months a new layer of caulking over the precedent one, on the joints or the screw heads: nobody does that in the boating industry or in the european RV manufacturing. A proper seal is putting QUALITY caulking UNDER the lips or heads, not OVER them. Ask yourself from where comes the funny motto in the RV business: "There are two kinds of US made RV's: those who leak and those... who will leak". Exposing any caulking to the sun, inevitably leads to cracking of its surface: try something else!

In all fairness I think non refundable deposits are a joke. They are one sided. Why should a dealer lock up merchandise with nothing to gain if they back out? What happened to people being big boys and girls and if you say your going to buy something and leave a deposit you put your money where your mouth is. When I used to work on my grandparents lot as a kid I couldn’t do anything about it but on my private sales I made it very clear if I take a deposit and you back out for any reason it is non refundable. That’s the least I can get for my trouble.
