I literally just did my own glidecam vs gimbal two days ago. I prefer a manual stabilizer over a gimbal and I'm switching back to manual

Finally somebody has compared these two stabilization solutions and it looks like the gimbal wins. What a fun team up with with Kyler Holland :raised_hands::skin-tone-3:
One big advantage of using a glidecam is the ability to use manual focus for those cinematic type shots. Gimbal is great for push pull pan and tilt, but you can’t manually manipulate the lens when in use in order to switch focus.
how do you use manual focus with glidecam? If you touch the camera lens, the balance is gone. Anyway many lens moving when you focusing (with autofocus too) and the balance gone again, and you should be recalibrate again ang again and again.
It's the other way around 😊
I prefer the manual one, because if i travel far for vlogs, i don't have to worry about charging it

I thought the glidecam would have an advantage with smoothing out the Z axis when walking and running but it looks like the Weebil-S held up quite well. Now I'm beginning to wonder if there's any reason to hold on to a glidecam.
I don’t know if one is really better than the other. I think they are different but I think the steady cam has a more natural look. But I think they are both good
It really comes to that what kind of footage you looking for.. glycam is looking so much more natural to the eyes.. and some action scenes it will win coz the small movement while running actually belongs to that .. weebil s etc.. is great but like you guys said.. get both if you can and then its a really good combo.
At 03:07 you can see a huge advantage that the glidecam has over the gimbal. It makes for amazing realistic sun lighting. Whereas the gimbal gives really bad lighting. I wonder how they built the lighting into the glidecam?
Quite helpful, even though it's already 2024. I'm a pro photog, but an amateur when it comes to video.

How about combining both?
I have and love both. Glidecam is so natural, but I can not add extra things as external monitor. Depends on customer feeling. Somebody want the smoothes video, somebody want more natural walk.
Honestly, trying to use a glidecam (without a vest) is really annoying. It’s great for run and gun type shoots like weddings and sports, but it’s a hassle for music videos and other slower/stationary type shots
If it's swaying, was it drop tested 🤔
I want to switch to a gimbal because of the ease of use and the pros like wind stabilization. But those vibrations and weird z movements when starting to move a little bit faster on an uneven ground just annoy me as f***. It doesn't look "gliding" anymore. :/

Don't mean to nitpick but we were building/making gimbals back in the day. Glidecams /steadicams/steadycams and such uses mechanical Gimbal. the other one is just electrically controlled gimbal. both are gimbal based stabilizers. oh but great video, it's good comparison.
I, being a weak little lady 😪, can not stand the weight of a manual stabilizer, even with the arm brace. The zhiyun weebill S is perfect for me. Small, compact and lightweight. So I’m now selling my flycam redking
I'm the opposite of you. I'm going back to a glidecam (came tv h4) stabilizer and using my weebill s as a backup
I’m the opposite. I don’t really like the feel of my crane 3s. It’s always causing issues with balancing my zcam rig. And now my rig is heavier due a heavier cine lens set up I’m looking at going full steadicam arm style. So going back in time 😄
You can run out of battery tho... :D When you master old school equipment, then you can move to new.

Gimbals are extremely easy to handle. Takes skill to handle a manual stabilizer that's why they aren't popular anymore
