8 months later I am still struggling to contain the exorbitant amount of disappointment I felt when Roomie dissed Creep
After watching quite a few of his videos, it's pretty clear he has very little to no patience for slow paced music and vocals. Considering his musical preferences though, that really shouldn't be surprising. He's very much into the High Energy and poppy music which defines the majority of more modern day and mainstream music. He's more into the dramatic highs/lows and the clear contrasts. Modern production techniques also seems to be something he holds as a standard of good music. Radiohead's Creep is a very slow paced song even for slow music. It has definite power and I feel it has an introspection that maybe isn't Roomie's forte. I noticed that while he has a higher appreciation for good song writing, he doesn't really delve into the lyrics all that much for context or meaning.
All in all, he's very much a mainstream artist with preferences in that vein of music. That isn't to say he can't appreciate other kinds of musical influences but it's clear he doesn't stray too far from his lane. Radiohead is definitely more niche even among people who listen to rock music more. Iconic definitely and a huge success as a band but not everyone's cup of tea. Admittedly, Creep is not the most interesting choice of music when it comes to the more technical aspects of song writing as well.
@@darkjesterxiii Good analysis!
I totally agree-and I just started watching his videos. Not cool. I feel like he had never heard the song before, and then called it “boring”. 🤦🏾😬😳

Coming from an oldies fan, I can tell you that indeed, many songs from the 50s, and early 60s, do sound alike. For "All About That Bass", that tune is a commonly used 50s trope music. As for "Please Mr. Postman", the tune is used in many more songs. Listen to "Mash Potato Time", and "The Monster Mash". It's the same thing!
EDIT: OMG thank you for hearting my comment! You are my fav youtuber! And thank you for all the likes!!!

@@michelleangelimusic Lmao genius

any chord pattern: * exists *
Roomie: These are the most basic chords
to be fair Major Chord patterns are super basic.
musical theory the first thing you learn is Major Scales, which can be used to create chord and chord patterns. it's the exact thing penn and teller talk about in their advert if you've seen it on youtube? learn a few basic principles (say the Major Scale pattern and the Scale Wheel) and you can literally make any major scale and any chords that would fit within that major scale
Major Scales are TTSTTTS or to put it simply the exact same pattern as the white keys on a keyboard, all the white keys are the CMajor scale for example, which is even more basic than major scales in general since it's literally what they teach you the second you touch an instrument. (no joke we actually had keyboard on hand when i was studying guitar)
you start getting more complex chord patterns when you start mixing in sustained chords or chords with other notes over them, for example one of my favorite guitar chords is a GAsus2 (looks like gibberish if you don't know what i mean but essentially an Aminor with a G on the bottom and the note that makes it minor is flat) it feels emotionally ambiguous, that is to say it sounds happy or sad based on context, fill the progression up with a sprinkling of other chords that sound ambiguous and maybe one Major chord tops and you have a bar that will only sound happy or sad depending on the currect emotional state of your audience, which you can manipulate through other bars, lyrics and tempo. THAT'S why roomie calls most chord progressions basic. because a person who's studied musical theory for 2 weeks could make the exact same thing that most of these songs use. they don't make use of any advanced chords or progression skills.
@@charmedrools1 Good job, but it's a joke comment dude.c
but they are a little bit pitchy
@@marpyplarpy350 no it's someone trying to make a joke and just drawing attention to the fact that they missed the point of what roomie was saying. it's not like people are expected to know musical theory, but joel does and thats why he says tons of this junk is basic. all these kinds of comments do is deaw attention to the fact that you don't know what joel is talking about. which, again, is perfectly fine... until you act like you do with these kinds of comments.
Then he doesn’t like radiohead when all they do is play complex chords

Calling creep a boring song is indeed a very edgy statement and it hurts my feelings, especially coming from someone who seems to like all about that bass...
Ikr...i really love that song! Like it hurts...but sometimes we gotta respect opinions.
As a musician, i get where he is coming from. He's not judging the song based on lyrics, he's judging them based on how they sound, musically. 😅 I know this doesn't make a lot of sense, but if you break the song down instrument by instrument, and take out all the synth and electronic additives, you're left with instruments and vocals. Vocally and lyrically, creep may be better than all about that base, but instrumentally, there's not a lot happening, whereas in more upbeat songs, the bass is often doing something fun while piano/guitar add chord rhythms or any kind of instrument is leading and the others are adding rhythm.
To some like me who is a Vocally inclined musician, rock music can be boring a lot of times because a lot of the songs use the simple 4 chord progression repeated throughout the song and sing along a simple (and sometimes obvious) melody line. This is a lot like pop music which, while catchy, it kind of musically boring as well.
This doesn't mean all rock music is considered boring, it's just more likely that he considers the tempo too slow, and the chord progression typical for this type of song.
@@nikkimoon1533 Complexity =/= Quality. There can be a lot of beauty and feelings in relatively simple musical compositions.

Edit: I'm not actually offended...it's a sarcastic joke
Dude I died of laughter when I heard him say that xD
literal
I literally died at that part
It was so funny 😂
Nice spanish :)
When he said "I dont think ive heard these two songs before" for the feel it still one, I instantly said to myself "he has definitely heard this song" like cmon it was played like EVERYWHERE.
same lol
T _ T
“Man I’m feeling so emo right now” KILLED ME😭😭😭😭
If you want to hear another 2 that are nearly the same try Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" and Olly Murs's "Dance With Me Tonight" what is really funny is that they were both judges at the same time on the voice UK and not only addressed it but performed both of their songs at the same time as a mashup.
He did them in part 1
Roomie: "Your PP will shrink"
*People with no PP* : "I never had it to begin with"
That is so true tho 😂😂😂😂😂
@@mistyy2282 stop simping
lmao yea
I don't wanna be *that* person but...
It's "Your" not "You're"
"Your" is referring to something a person owns.
"You're" is "You" and "Are" together. Meaning telling something about the person.
-Your
Your forehead is big.
-You're
You're a human.
K I hope you learn from that T-T

Me, a latina: **Laughs in hispanic**
No mames yo me reí como pendeja con el lorando se fiu
Thank you, Roomie! A simple instrumental version of Llorando Se Fue was played on my local ice cream truck sometimes, and I have been wondering what it was for years!
The "Shape of you" + "No scrubs" bit was pretty cool!
Joel: "Creep is boring, fight me"
Creep fans: "Noooo you can't say that"
Radiohead fans: "Yeah, he's right. Even Radiohead didn't like it"
Postmodern Jukebox Creep sung by Hailey Reinhart.(?)
Exactly
@@cspnl9021 music can be whatever the artist wants it to be
I like it 😂
@@cspnl9021 Yeah right, some of the best songs were written in a depressive state of mine! Don't listen to "Depressive" music if you don't like it and let us enjoy good music! Thanks!
Im from Argentina, and the way you say "llorando se fue" makes me laugh.
It made me cringe
Me too
It was so funny
It cracked my ears
Lorando Se Fiú
I know both Shape of you and No scrubs. Ididn't even realize that they were similar and didn't really hear it.
8:50 "Lorəndow sah few" 😂
This was highly entertaining!
