    VVS scored 340 runs in that one match alone. Dravid scored 205. Together they contributed 545 runs.
    VVS and Dravid were highest scorer in first inning also for India.
    India scored 171 runs in the first inning, this was the exact runs by which India won that test match.
    Deficit of 274 runs in first inning and then to go on to win convincingly by 171 runs is just Amazing to say the least.

    I like Ian Chappell's opinions. They say that an opinion is only as good as the person who gives it. Ian was a great cricketer. Always bold and forthright. I like Dravid, Seawag, Tendulkar and Azadrudin but most of all VVS Laxman. He was so different!

      Certainly one of the best. For the third innings. Graham Gooch’s 154* against the WI in 1991, against Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh and Patterson on an up-and-down Headingley wicket, is right up there too - as is Atherton’s 185* in Johannesburg, and Lara’s 153* against Australia in Barbados, are up there too, but the last two were fourth innings.

  • @patrickcrogan
    @patrickcrogan 11 лет назад +234

    With 'the wall' Dravid's help he pulled off the impossible. the Australian's bowled well at them and were at the peak of their powers. I remember watching Laxman at one end destroying the Aussie attack at the SCG while the rest fell at regular intervals to McGrath etc at the other. Got 150 odd I think out of not much more.

    The smart move was made by captain Sourav Ganguly and he also gave ball to Sachin who picked 3 wickets back to back quickly. The best captain world as ever seen. The captain who changed world cricket. And Ganguly also is the best six hitter especially to spinners. His coming down the track and lofting over the bowler to six is the best six hitting shot I have ever seen.

    VVS Laxman was one of major reasons why India won that iconic series in 2001 along with Harbhajan Singh. They were almost gone in the 2nd test and then he played that monumental innings. Sachin Tendulkar may have been the best batsman in the Indian lineup and getting him out was important for the psychological impact, but he wasn't always the most dangerous. VVS Laxman was at times more dangerous than Sachin.

    17 yo me sitting at home watching with my Dad: Australia will bat again with no pressure on them get some quick runs and put the game and the series totally out of reach from the Indians, give their bowlers a rest from the heat and bat while the pitch is at it's best and have Warne bowling on the 5th day to win the game and the series for Australia.
    Steve Waugh: No I'll enforce the follow on because reasons.....
    I had to watch this match in so much pain because of Laxman, Steve Waugh was arrogant and totally overrated as a captain and Australia deserved to lose. Laxman well done from an Australia I wish I could have appreciated your innings at the time.

    It was a no-brainer that laxman should bat no. 3 in second innings. It was quite evident in that innings of 59. Even an average cricket fan would know.

    All south indian cricketers will only get praise from opposition teams and people who respect talent and respect the game. The indian management or ecosystem never made them captains.. never made them superstars.. undue adulation and stardom was given to people from north who can capture the north media and familiarity in that part of that world.. Indian cricket is watched all across india why cant they promote players from south.. everyone will know them... even though there were many good looking cricketers from south they were overlooked for average looking dhoni and kohli.. people like Murali vijay and dinesh karthik are far more good looking than them..
    Examples
    VVS Laxman one of the best test batsman you can get.. he should have been batting up the order scoring 10k plus runs.. no respect no stardom..
    R ashwin 500 test wickets absolute match winner 25 man of series awards 5 test 100s.. no respect gets dropped overseas just after one match..
    Anil kumble GOAT spinner leader.. no respect from north or indian think tank..
    Srinath no stardom.. 300 plus odi wickets bowled at crazy speeds..carried indian attack for so long..
    so many can be quoted..

      @@LazyDoc333 I agree mate.. And they say bowlers are the ones who wins you test matches but still underestimate them... As u rightly said Harbhajan's impactful performance in this match has always been overshadowed by the astonishing knock of 281 played by Laxman...

    • @krr3570
      @krr3570 5 лет назад

      Of course he did ❤❤ even Sachin took 3 key wickets in the required time even that added to victory and Dravid was also amazing in the Second innings But LAXMAN is *THE most important person in that point of match*

    • @bhagyeshkulkarni9259
      @bhagyeshkulkarni9259 5 лет назад

      @@krr3570 Yes but still we couldn't have one that if Harbhajan hadn't taken those 7/6 wkts in the second innings which was the most crucial time in the match... Yes sachin did play a part too.. But if it hadn't been for that Harbhajan's spell then not sure we were going to win the match...yes we would have drawn that for sure but win wasn't so clear even after playing that remarkable innings...I would say Laxman was very important to come back in the match and give India a chance to draw or win, more to draw the match.. But Harbhajan's wickets made sure that we win the match... I would still rate Laxman's innings a bit higher but Harbhajan's performance was not less too... Both were almost at par, 19-20 to Laxman maybe...

    I lived in Perth, WA back then. A guy in a local pub said the time change, for the radio coverage, must be halfway between Western Australia and England. I said only 2.5hrs backward. Australia must be part of Asia!. My travel experience has always been such although I've always liked a beer (x100) in Dover, London (near the British Museum), Cambridge + Manchester (lesbians kissing in the audience at a comedy show🍺🥃!!). Cheers from Melbourne 👍

    The greatest innings of all time by Laxman. I thought that innings at SCG where he scored 160 was a great knock. Then he scores 281 two years later. Two things from the Kolkata test. Why did Steve Waugh enforce the follow on on a good batting wicket in 34 degree heat. Secondly why was Fleming dropped for Kasprowicz. Fleming could seam the ball around and we needed him in Kolkata. Great comeback from India and full credit to them.
