Comparison between Legion 5 2021 and 2022 coming soon, make sure you're subscribed!
Check Legion 5 prices here: geni.us/wK1Ke
Update: Although my Legion 5 shipped with a 130W power limit, there is an update to max it out at 140W which my video was not tested with. I retested a few games with the update and did not find it to make a real difference one way or the other: pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds558976-vbios-for-rtx-3060-legion-5-15arh7h-windows-11-64-bit

I used silent mode and used Optimus and turned on Windows battery saving feature and turned off Bluetooth and WiFi then I watched a whole 1080p movie offline for an hour and a half and it drained the battery down from 73% down to 52% which is really great!

    1. The Radeon 6700M GPU is better than the RTX 3060. Both in Linux & in Windows for gaming.
    2. The screen is much better, with a 2560 x 1600 165 hz screen that is 500 nits bright.
    3. The Legion 7 has a fingerprint sensor.
    4. The chassis is much more premium on the Legion 7. It's a CNC Aluminum/magnesium unibody.
    5. More RGB.
    6. Bigger battery (the legal limit for taking onto a plane).
    7. Glass touchpad compared to plastic/mylar.
    8. Fn + R shortcut.
    9. Better Wi-Fi 6E card (still a MediaTek card, and my Legion 7 had serious issues with its Wi-Fi card, but its a $20 - $30 upgrade, not the end of the world).

The new AMD Ryzen 7 6800H has the new RDNA2 integrated GPU, which is a HUGE improvement over the Vega 7 iGPU that came in previous models. Most of the time I'm using my Legion 5, I have the Nvidia GPU completely disabled (I don't need a dGPU for terminal, browser, an IDE etc...). Yeah, I'm definitely gonna buy this bad boy. THANKS FOR THE REVIEW!!! ❤

Hey, Jarrod! I think that Lenovo gaming laptops are great, the reason I even bought my first personal laptop: Lenovo R7000 2020 (Chinese ver. of Legion 5) was because of your video review in 2020. That was also the year I discovered your channel because of how you go down into details with the specs and whatnot about the Laptops you review. I'd like to request if you can address the stuttering issue with Lenovo gaming Laptops? Lenovo Laptops have been gaining a lot of recognitions in the past few years particularly the Legion 5 and 7 in your reviews as well as their ranks in your annual ranking of gaming laptops that you've tested. I think that claiming, as per your video description, that Lenovo Laptops as your favorite high, mid-range gaming laptops are going to affect consumers' choice to buy off these models, only to reach a certain time where they experience lots of after-sales problems particularly with these annoying stutters. In my case, it happened like a month after I bought my laptop in 2020. I thought it was just a software issue that'll only be fixed by updating the drivers or something like that since it was a new laptop. But no, it did occur a few times until it reaches to the point that it became like a requirement to have the laptop get stutter when I try to use it. It usually happens when a play music, video, and games. Even just casual roaming around my desktop, it happens. I can't help, but to bear with this annoyance in the past couple years and just helplessly accepted my fate with this laptop. I thought that it was a defect on my laptop alone. After several research through the internet, I've been getting information that it was an AMD issue, since I own the AMD version. Then, I just found a recommended video on my RUclips feed that Lenovo Legion 7i has the same issue as well. What's worse is that, it has the worst stutter experience I've ever seen in a Laptop, like totally annoying, and loud given that his Laptop, Legion 7i, has far higher specs than I do. That's when it hit me that, that's it. I think that the after-sales concerns are not very much recognized in your channel. Not to mention, I even suggested and bought my sister, on her behalf, the Ideapad Gaming 3 amd Ryzen 7 3050 Ti. Because other than the stuttering issue, Lenovo laptops are really great. But guess what, right after playing some music in her new laptop in the first day she unboxed and use it, the stuttering occured, I was like, wth are the deal with Lenovo and these stutters. Like, right now, I don't know how to react about it. I'm just helpless and truly disappointed. It's not the CPU, the updated drivers, etc., It's Lenovo.

    • @matt66146
      @matt66146 Год назад

Ya, I'll never buy a Lenovo AMD laptop again. 2021 Legion stopped getting bios updates within the first 6 months and is permanently stuck with stutter issues because Lenovo won't update the BIOS. The AMD update that finally fixes issues on the 5000 series came out in 2022 and Lenovo doesn't seem to update past the first year (last bios update was Dec 2021).

Can you make a dedicated video about DPC and total system latency to showcase the facts & misconceptions about them, laid with a chart for laptops of this and last year's models ranked by their latency test results? I'm quite partial to dismiss DPC latency as a factor when choosing a laptop, but I'm very curious whether high DPC latency causes issues in gaming and media consumption. I began to notice some stutters, screen tear and glitching either while playing games, browsing the web, scrolling, typing or watching videos on my y530; an otherwise great machine with nice keyboard layout, accurate button press, a very durable screen hinge mechanism and good upgradeability. Likewise, I am with you on Legion keyboards being satisfying to type with. And since my job requires fast and accurate typing, it's a saving grace, and was the sole reason I've kept it for 5 years. Time for a refreshment, and I'm thinking this legion 5 will serve me well for another 5 years. Wish I had the money to afford a 7i, and not necessarily because I want to reduce e-waste. LMAO. I never wanted to touch a machine as badly as that, but seeing as it costs 9 times as my monthly earnings, I'll pass. Oof.

On top of that, as if reading my mind, u go ahead and assuage my doubts on support for precisely the very things I was concerned about - keyboard lighting and perf. mngmt... chef's kiss! Your, albeit tedious, coverage of laptops is excellent bar none and invaluable to actual market goers looking to buy a new machine. Again, testing for linux support was going above and beyond, especially when Google gave a grim picture showing stitched together kernels and long reddit frustrations. U r, in my opinion, the unsung creator of an unglamorous, remarkably meticulous, one shot reference for prospective buyers, modulo only spec sheets, though they too, at times, blush seeing ur videos. 2022 Lenovo Legion 5 NVIDIA RTX 3060, 16GB, 15.6" QHD IPS 165Hz, RYZEN 5-6600H Gaming Laptop
    It's 6600h and Wi-Fi 6E 11ax, 2x2, 300W charger and Webcam FHD 1080p with E-camera Shutter, so it makes sense.
Just like my S21 Ultra has a different processor in the UK/EU vs US markets.

I have a question regarding this laptop. I am a somewhat casual gamer, but I know that what matters most in gaming performance is the gpu. Rtx3060, even mobile is more than a decent gpu, even now. But I can't help but wonder about the vram, I don't intend to play on more than 1080p, but I do want to be able to play all the new games on settings better than low. In this context, is 6gb of vram enough? Already games like star wars jedi survivor are demanding in the spec sheet 8 gb of vram, I'm guessing it's ok for 4k, but will 1080p work good?
I'm hoping that games makers will mind about the fact that there are a sizeable size of budget laptops that use 4-6gb of vram, rtx 3050 mobile, rtx 3060 mobile, rtx 4050 mobile. These are decent chips, it would be a shame to be punished for low vram. They are not meant for 4k.
I am upgrading from a gtx 1650ti and got the legion on a very good offer, it was the cheapest rtx3060 by far on a laptop, I can't afford anything better than this and I am wondering if it is worth it.

I am hoping that something like this is available as a budget laptop in 2025, when I hope to upgrade from my Gigabyte G5 GD.
That is, from a decent budget 1080p to a decent budget 1440.
