  • Should we expect a UV Sterilizer to cure bacteria or algae problems in our saltwater tanks? Are we asking UV too much from our UV Sterilizers when it comes to solving algae or bacterial related issues? Today we add to our UV Sterilizer mini-series with a look at what we can expect UV to do for our tanks and what we shouldn't expect it to do.

    Hooked up a UV sterilizer on my tank about 2 weeks ago and noticed the effects of it probably hours later. Water is crystal clear. Also, I had to clean my glass every other day of algae and it was getting to me. I have only had to clean the glass once since installing the UV sterilizer.
    I’m not sure if it will help prevent illness from parasites but the juice is worth the squeeze for the improvement in viewing quality of my tank alone along with cleaning the glass less often. That’s good enough for me. I keep a QT tank so not too worried about introducing parasites.

    Good insight, would a UV sterilizer be suitable to help combat fish tuberculosis or Mycobacteria?

      It's probably best not to run your UV if you are dosing living organisms that remain suspended in the water column.

    If I set the flow rate of my UV to focus of pathogens does that mean I'd need a separate UV to be efficient against algae?

      We recommend running a UV sterilizer 24 hours per day

    I don’t see a need in it at all. Cloudy water is a sign of single cellular algae in the water. Just add filter feeders or wait for them to appear on their own, it will become normal in time.

    Did uv safe for coral?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 года назад

      UV sterilizers will only affect what passes through them, so they're completely safe for corals.
