Transformers Prime is pretty deep (or tried to be, at any rate), and provided a lot of inspiration for TF1 if you want more of that! Also, I'd argue that Elita's development parallels Megatron's - she learns to let go of her reliance on protocol and her need to be the best and prove herself to her superiors, whilst he clings onto those things to the point of trying to create a new order by force.
I personally didn't really feel a strong parallel between Megatron and Elita1. while I agree Megatron does cling to protocol, it doesn't last very long, he very quickly abandons his old way of life and the ideas that Sentinel put in his head. He begins to try to gain power so he can never be put in the disenfranchised position ever again. When I got to the end of the film it didn't feel like Megatron was clinging to protocol or trying to prove he was the best but rather abandoning his old ways so he can rise to the top. that's just my opinion tho Also I might check out Transformers Prime. I'm just watching the 1984 cartoon cause its kinda funny to watch :)
