Adidas Adistar First Run Review: Adidas' mega stacked easy run shoe is made for slow miles

  • The Adidas Adistar is one of the biggest stacked shoes we've ever seen here. And we're not going to lie, when we first took it out of the box, we drew a little breath. Almost like we did when we first clapped eyes on a HOKA back in the day. And with that huge wedge of new Repetitor foam and a rocker-like geometry the Adistar is probably the most HOKA shoe Adidas has ever produced.
It sits at the opposite end of the spectrum to those carbon plate racers. This is a shoe designed for running long and running slow, in comfort. So how does it hold up? We put it to an initial 5 mile run test to find out. Hit play to see what we made of it in this Adidas Adistar first run review.

These will be my replacement for the Boston 10 for long, slow and recovery runs. I love the Boston 10 but it needs some refining.

Just picked them up with a discount code for 104, my maxroad 5’s are torn up and 190 miles ( one side of my heel on each side I am running on hyper burst now) , so these look to be a more durable replacement , and at an agreeable price . I don’t like my shoes too squishy , so picked them up to eat up long slow miles

Got mine to 300km. Still going strong. Definitely not for heel strikers. Landing on forefoot makes this so plush. My easy pace is 7:30/km to 8:00/km and it works really well at that pace. Even did some strides in them, and the weight really shows the faster you go.

There was also adiprene and adiprene+. adiprene: firm without rebound and years to decades before Others vibration-limitation (the one which are Not good for muscles and knees, etc.). adiprene+ less Firm and the rebound-foam. Best example the adidas Terrex Fast R with adiprene from midfoot to Heel and adiprene+ from midfoot to forefoot.
The Repetitor-foam for Sure is lighter and incl. Recycling Material.

Sense 8 - isn't that a Salomon shoe? Always thought the Ultra Boost/Solar something/SuperNova ones were for easy days. This seems more like a new concept shoe like the 4DFWD ones.

The Solarboost and Supernova are both budget daily trainers, so this offers a more cushioned version that's still in the budget range. The Ultra Boost is also fine for easy runs, but they're expensive shoes to get just for easy running as they're lifestyle shoes first.

I use an Ultraboost PB for those easy runs with friends where you make stops to take selfies and you're not chasing time. I know the shoes are quite heavy but I like the feel underfoot. Is this new midsole better than Boost or would I be better served with a UB 22 when I need a replacement?

Heavier the better with adidas of late it seems! I might get to 500g in a UK 13.5 then :) Just checking and they do actually do that size unlike any of their "performance" shoes like the Adios Pro 2 or Takumi Sen 8. Very rare to see a 6mm drop adidas shoe as well although maybe that is a new trend as the Takumu Sen 8 is 6mm too. Are they trying to become Hoka?
