The craziest thing happened when they opened for Herbie Hancock at the jazzfest in Montreal. The beginning of their set was perfect, but by the time they got to havona, DOMi's keyboard that she plays bass with decided to stop working, which in turn made everything else stop working. While she tried to fix it with the poor technician, JD takes the mic and says " guess I'll play a solo then" and proceeded to completely blow our minds away 😂 in the end, the technician stayed the whole time, holding the extension cables together by hand while DOMi amd JD Beck played the rest of their set 😂 a concert i will never forget!!
Love these guys such amazing players. Some of the drum beats leave me a bit cold. Just sounds like drum machine beats. I know it takes a lot of skills to produce them but I don't find it very imaginative. However his other concepts are Sublime artistry .🔥

Brilliant! I can't get over how small his drum set is and how bloody much he does with it! And she MUST be one of THE greatest keyboardists alive! Did you see her performance of Liszt at 14, DAMN!!!
I've seen just a little of this duo but never took a good listen until now ... Seriously accomplished musicians to take Havona and come up with this. Awesome.
Pro drummer here. JD Beck plays fast tempo drumming without rushing , he almost sounds like he’s slowing down. Perfect technique, as well as playing very musically. Fantastic player. He plays a lot like Chris Dave - a massive punchy sound whilst barely moving
These guys are happening. In my humble opinion, that fantastic riff at 1:03 and latershould've been played in the lowest keys to channel Jaco Pastorious's powerful rendition of it.
I don’t know a thing about drum playing but is his slumped over posture a good thing? That fast playing with that posture just seems like an injury waiting to happen.
Domi still reading sheet music for these tunes years later?? Even original tunes she wrote, still reading. This is a duo, could go anywhere, but they only do arrangements. Love to see some actual real exploration in the moment.
Lol huh? Did you watch the video? Like 50% of this performance is soloing. She’s also quite literally playing two parts at the same time (bass and keys) so uuhhh yeah I’d say she can read the arrangement all she wants lol
I couldn't figure out where Domi's technical brilliance came from until I realized that she's a trained classical pianist, and she can obviously play wonderful jazz too, judging by her "For Free" video. But I don't get the stuff she's doing with her friend JD. It sounds very thin to me.
I am confused by the groove. Does he use the same blast beat for everything? Perhaps I'm missing something. No offense to him or anyone who like this kind of thing. Long live music! The younger players are the musical future. Best wishes to them all.
Just his style. It's very influenced by 90s DNB/Jungle/Breakcore, and he's even listed artists like Squarepusher and Aphex Twin as big influences which all utilize these types of percussive patterns. He's just skilled enough to play them with a kit.
These two may be the most technically proficient players on their respective instruments ever BUT.....I can't help but feel the gazillion notes/rhythm strokes takes something away from the soul of the music. It's like a computer programmed to cram in more information than is actually needed to achieve the goal. I'd rather listen to these two vs. Taylor Swift, obviously, but the original Weather Report version has more than enough notes while achieving an added warmth that I'm missing in this version.

@@ajpend Just making a point. Doing what you feel at any given moment is not, in and of itself, beautiful. I think this music is incredibly ugly. The original recording of Havona is one of the most majestic and extraordinary pieces of fusion I've ever heard. This version is a travesty, mainly because of the drumming. Domi had some of the qualities in the original Havana in her early playing, but years of hanging out with JD Beck have killed it. As I said, a real shame.
I've seen your same comment on several of their videos now. What exactly is your issue? Your comments make no sense. Are you jealous of their style and musical abilities and genius? Very strange indeed.
The keyboard Player is phenomenal but the drummer is not my cup of tea at all. Gets on my nerves. I'd like to see her playing with Damien Schmitt on drums

This was such a good concert. JD referred to it as a “struggle set” because of the heat and his messed up snare but they still absolutely killed

Horrible sound, no feel and terrible body usage. And you're a pro? God help drumming....
Great comparison!
I'm new to this wonderful duo's music. I love it! Great talents for sure!
They played the same one at Roskilde Festival. They said they missed a flight and got only hours of sleep, but they played just fine.
La morra tocando con la mano izquierda una línea más desquiciada que la de Jaco...¡tremendos!
Man, I love this song...
Extremely enjoyable and impressive.
The fact that this was a free show blows my mind
BLAZING SPEED!

just amazing, fast too!
Incredible!!!!
Would love to see/hear a set with these two joined by Matteo Mancuso with his baritone guitar
Now that's something I'd love to see. Wish Mancuso would do some more collabs, he definitely could adapt to any style.
lol at first glance, I thought JD Beck had a full sleeve tattoo!
The band's name was "Weather Report." No "the" on the front.
Joe Zawinul is smiling ...
Favorite section is the end, still lots of fast syncopation, but more space utilized
Unbelievable!!!
