    I am an American who lives in the UK. I get 28 holidays a year at my company over here.
    In the UK, you get more holidays than in the US, better public transport and a better health care system.......and no prudish attitude towards alcohol.. From a guy, who has lived on both sides of the pond, I hate to say it to my fellow Americans, but you don't have it as good as you think you do.

      "Best on earth?" It's better than the third world, I'll give you that, but it's far from the best on earth. A lot of other developed countries are better. Vacations, reasonable work hours, universal health care, etc do work. Even high-paying jobs can stress you out and suck joy out of life in done too long. BTW I've also left the US, and live in and have citizenship in a country which has many of those things. And no, people who leave America are not "traitors", anymore than people who immigrate to America (like the majority of Americans' ancestors) are.

    Don't you realise that your economy will grow and benefit from paid vacations. You will create a whole new industry around tourism and play. You will create more jobs in the service industry and food industry. It's a win win situation.

    I'm a New Yorker. I'm in the medical field. I have 20 days of vacation, 4 personal days, 8 legal holidays and 12 sick days. I guess I am one of the few lucky ones.

    Greed is chiefly behind the mandate of longer work hours for American employees. This is easy to understand when you take into consideration that American wages have been frozen for the last 30 years while, at the same time corporate CEO's have been cutting sweeter deals for themselves.
    The CEO is not dumb. He's screwing his employees over with never-ending overtime because what he pays them is almost nothing compared to what he gets out of the deal.

    My current (American) employer believes in work-life balance ( they told me when I was interviewd) so I'm finally getting a generous vacation and I work a minimum of overtime. I'm loving it. Forget material "stuff." I have all I need including a good family and a social network (AKA friends). Terminally I'll people say again and again that their biggest regret in ife is that they spent too much working. I,for one, believe them.

    We could definitely get more vacation time for American adults if we took money from our military.

    So, right now, don't you have any national law about a minimum days of vacations, a maternity leave and uniouns who fight for that? I only seen some politics talk about this kind of things.

  • @edinburgh96
    @edinburgh96 12 лет назад +3

    That's fine if you don't feel the need for a "tradional" vacation but you imply that those who want to take vacation aren't hard workers. You can be a hard worker and still want a vacation at the same time. Wanting a vacation certainly does not make a person "entitled."

    Is a shame how the supposedly largest economy in the world won't give the very same people that drive that economy some rest to live life.
    Only the top 1% have that privilege

    @rd2694 I respectfully disagree. I do not see a competitive advantage. I see a society of economic slaves with shorter less enjoyable lives. Vacation is part of our standard of living.

    I think its a great idea. People don't work well when they are stressed and tired. You could claim that people can rest during holidays, but thats laughable. Just as you can't run someone 24 hours a day and expect them to perform well (if at all) its odd that people thing you can work a person constantly throughout the year.

    I don't get the smaller car comment at the end of the video. BMW and Audi's are not cheap and you pay for quality. Anyway I work in the uk as a software developer and I have looked at positions across the pond and I can't see any advantage in pay in the US over the UK.

    I have been to Europe. Ive been to the U.K., Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece, and their all wonderful places, with good people. But ill pardon you saying im brainwashed since you have never meet me in real life, I make my own decisions to work as much as I do and I enjoy it. The only people to me who seem brainwashed are people in Greece that were hooked to their entitlements, and we all know how their doing don't we...

    I find it just fine that Europeans want to live that way, but U.S. culture is different. We enjoy the fruits of our labor in the satisfaction of success and a hard work ethic. It's a sens of pride and joy that we feel that we can be the best that we can be. Im a current full time college student, part time worker, and I help a soup kitchen on Sundays for free. Im happy with my life because I enjoy working. I feel satisfaction when I do something right or get a degree. That is my vacation.
