The problem is you people spend more time condemning the opposition instead of working towards correcting those policies that’s attracting the German people to it.

Yes. The same thing happened before WWII. Germany's academic left tried to run the country but couldn't create enough jobs, economic security, and food for everyone under the harsh punishments of the Versailles Treaty. This allowed the far right to make wild promises that got them elected for a government takeover. They spent a year or two making most Germans happy with lots of government jobs to work on their country's infrastructure and creating a lot of patriotic national pride while they rebuilt their military. Then they went on the attack, all the while lying to their own people. By the time the average German figured out what was happening, it was too late to stop their alt right.

@micky_d_designer: AFD is primarily an anti-immigrantion party, particularly vocal against Islamization of Germany. However, it has support of funding from Russia through back channels to align and support it policies and interests. When Russia gas money was flowing into Germany, they used some of that money on influential leaders, to garner it's support for its political interests. But Russia is also using media channels to sow discord and disinformation to elect political parties that hold it favourably, that includes Robert fico in Slovakia, Trump in USA, Orban in Germany, Mary la Pen in France, and other far-right parties in EU countries. There is another pseudo website world's socialist web that masquerade as a grouping of socialists leaning individuals but is rather a loudspeaker of anti NATO and anti -EU media channel.

The AfD is the loudest party, but they don't represent the german people in the slightest. In the two state elections in Thuringia and Saxony 1,115,978 people combined have voted for the AfD among 83,862,225 german citizens. The support for the AfD in the more populated west german states are far lower than in the east, e.g. in the last state election in Northrhine-Westphalia the AfD got 388,768 votes out of a population of 18,139,116. The AfD is still a right extremist party most germans despise with all their heart!

It's so funny that you're trying to pass off these analysts from places like Hudson Institute and Carnegie as "independent observers". The Carnegie Endowment was literally headed by a former CIA director, William Burns just a few years ago. These organizations are anything but independent, they are deeply entrenched in Permanent Washington or what many people call "The Swamp". And make no mistake, they do have vastly different interests from the German people or any other nation in Europe. That's why they vehemently opposed and (ultimately destroyed) Nord Stream, needlessly antagonized Russia and China, sabotaged peace negotiations between the Russians and Ukrainians when the war started and the list goes on. They basically use us as chess pieces in their geopolitical games and most European politicians never call them out, never ever push back. AfD politicians have a spine and point out the obvious, that's what attracts so many people to them.

    Let's get this straight:
AFD wants Europe to develop its own defenses, rather than rely on the US. According to DW that's bad.
Non-intervention in sovereign states, which is the official United Nations policy, is... bad? Why? Because China supports it.
German policies have led to massive inflation, massive budget expenditures on energy reconfiguration, and massive expenditures on sending arms to a warzone. That violates Germany's own policies which are to avoid supporting sides in warzones. But apparently DW thinks that these new German policies are good, and shouldn't be changed.
Honestly, the scary music is not enough to convince me that Germany should escalate conflict with Russia, rather than seek peace.
How can DW be on the side of military buildup, German subordination to US interests, and against peace??

How can a party claim "non-intervension in sovereign states" and refuse to defend this principle when someone (Russia) comes and breaks it? Seeking peace? If not for russian aggression there would be peace.
In an ideal world everyone would play by the rules. But what happens when someone breaks them? If you aren't ready to defend the right to sovereignity, then there is no right to sovereignity.

Actually, Volkswagen just invested $3 billion into new factories in China and are working with China to develop their own EV’s so as to be competitive in the rest of the world. BMW are also building mega factories in China. China welcomed Tesla when they were dominant in EV’s worldwide because the Chinese wanted their own fledgling companies to compete against the best, because if they were unable to do so, then China would never have an EV industry that was competitive.
China still extends the same subsidies to Tesla that she extends to her own car brands, so that anyone buying a Tesla in China gets the same government subsidy they would get if they bought a BYD, so it’s a level playing field.
Tariffs never work when you have an uncompetitive product : they simply close your markets off so you end up with local companies producing expensive garbage for your own market that no one else wants and BMW or Volkswagen would become the Trabant of the 21st century.

@@sgn4899 "a deterrent against aggressor like Putin" ?
You think Putting wants to kill Germans, wants to destroy Germany? Deterrence made sense during the cold war era against USSR. I believe in the doctrine of mutual assured destruction. But in this case it does not apply. In fact it has the opposite effect. Instead of deference it's more like provocation. For a country to use nukes against someone who's not an enemy, hosting installations operated by someone who's not a friend. (any longer) Doesn't have Germany's best interests in mind.
"but you are ok with him using it against others." ?
No ! I don't think that USA or UK should disarm. I still think they should keep nuclear weapons.
Aggressor like Putin ? We're not talking about Ukraine. You think Putin is a threat to Germany? Or to Europe?

I mean, how can you be against the idea of a country's defense being the country's own responsibility first? And not that of someone else? Having alliances to warranty Germany can easily win with support shouldn't be a reason for Germany not be able to defend itself. And, asking for Germany geo political independence is just a normal thing. Each country should be able to make policy base on their interests.
You wanna stay nato, protect the EU, and so on, we need to prove to people all those things are on their interests, not looking down at them for trying to take care of them and talk about defending them.
I'm a strong believer EU should move more into US style federation, single army, single foreign policy, to prevent non European superpowers to dictate European policy and geo politics, out Europe on the table again, no single European county can do alone. That's the kind of speech we need, how united we can achieve more than divided, rather than calling enemies those who think divided is better.

Weidel wants to make the EU what Germany became during the Thirty Years' War: in 1648, Germany was a colorful patchwork without central power, a very weak overall construct that was of no use to anyone except the local princes. As we know, this weakening of Germany meant that Germany slept through the entire colonial period as a non-nation, and was only founded in 1871 when all the juicy parts of the world already belonged to another European nation. Without this fragmentation in 1648, the British and French would never have become such a large world empire, because the Holy Roman Empire would have continued to be the dominant power in Europe (and would have supported the friendly Spaniards against the British, for example). Russia also only really became a large tsarist empire AFTER 1648, with territorial expansion far to the east. The Dutch would never have practiced colonialism without the Thirty Years' War, because their nation only became independent of the Holy Roman Empire through the peace treaty in 1648.
Fragmentation can have such a huge impact - lasting for centuries.

Germany's entire economy is dependent on trade .
These types of political policies would isolate them from their trading partners at the very leat.
Besides that , Germany stopped having children 40 years ago and they are now not only running out of 20 and 30 year-olds, but 40 year- olds as well. They are headed for demographic dissolution.
