Aussie rock legend!!!!!!
A great one with both Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham "When something is wrong with my baby" You're welcome 😉 So many great songs from Jimmy Barnes, you can't really go wrong with what you choose.
Yes! The live performance from Hey Hey It's Saturday is amazing.
This is one of my fave Aussie songs from the 80s. Jimmy Barnes had a terrible childhood and later pushed through alcohol & drug abuse to become one of our most beloved and enduring rockers.
The only concert I’ve been to where I had to put my fingers in my ears to stop the pain & that was only when Jimmy was, er, singing.
One hell of a voice
Yes, he's our Bruce. The Aussie Boss. That's a good analogy actually for his success and style. His stuff with Cold Chisel is exceptional
As soon as I saw Jimmy Barnes, I clicked, forget what I was watching😁.
An Aussie legend. His band, Cold Chisel are royalty in Australia.
Jimmy and his wife are putting out some great videos on YT from home these days
Oh! We did a Cold Chisel song last month!
@@MikeandGinger That's right. You did. That was Jimmy Barnes singing in it👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Jimmy started with Cold Chisel in 1973, and is still going, in fact headlining an outdoor covid safe concert tonight 👍
@@MRDARKTURKEY Certainly is. My first Cold Chisel gig was around 1976, I think.
@@bazkeen I discovered Chisel when i was 10, sadly that was 84, and they had already split..... i had to wait until they reformed in the 90’s.... but was worth the wait 👍
What a great find for a late-night RUclips surf, some fun reactors doing one of the best Barnes songs :)
You're right about the rough blue-collar Springsteen/Mellencamp sort of thing. I think when you did Hunters and Collectors a little while back myself and a few commenters were talking about the Australian "pub rock" genre and Jimmy Barnes is the absolute avatar of it. His song "Working Class Man" is one of our unofficial national anthems (a fact helped by the fact that the tune maps perfectly to the *actual* anthem, as one of our TV comedians discovered.)
His solo stuff has been brighter and rockier but if you're interested in that really quite bittersweet, burned-out elegiac feel that comes through in some of Springsteen or Mellencamp's songs, have a listen to his old band Cold Chisel, whose songs were notably bleaker. The most famous is "Khe Sanh" about a Vietnam vet trying to make a life after coming home, but songs like "Four Walls" and "Forever Now" hit the same notes. "Flame Trees" is beautiful, and sweetly melancholy rather than just sad, but the feel is similar.
Thanks so much for doing this, was stoked to see it and I'm looking forward to more.
Thanks Matthew! We did a Cold Chisel song a month or two back, but I believe it got blocked 😑 I didn’t realize he was from that band. So cool - G
People haven't heard of mr jimmy barnes ; im going home !!!
As institutional for australia as springsteen is for usa...
I think you would like Barnsie and Farnsie.
When Jimmie Barnes and John Farnham teamed up and performed a few duets.
Together........ they were both brilliant.
I recommend an impromptu live performance on Hey Hey , It’s Saturday......Diesal played guitar and did the backing vocals for them.
A great stumble upon video, I remember seeing this video when it first came out. Jimmy is an ICON here, he has been a part of our youth in Australia. His band Cold Chisel are legends here, and Jimmy has not just a great rock voice that could power a city with his volume and energy he also has done blues, ballads, and Motown in his genre of music. Yes he is a sort of Bruce Springsteen here and has worked with The Boss. Now you have discovered him you need to do more from Him and Cold Chisel.
I suggest starting with "Flame Trees" or "When The War is Over" both are song's that you hear everywhere and anywhere here in Australia as they are woven into the fabric of OZ.
Keep Safe Keep Strong
COLD CHISEL '73-'83 was his band before going solo. He shared singing with Ian Moss. Many great songs , Cheap Wine, My Baby, Choir Girl, Khe San etc. His solo song Working Class Man was Springsteen-like type song.
Jimmy Barnes was the lead in Cold Chisel lengendary Aussie rock band of the 70's and 80's. Ian Moss was also the lead guitar in Cold Chisel both having great solo careers. Their last concert in Sydney 83' was brilliant if you have not seen them Cold Chisel (Last Stand) live. They had 2 farewell concerts over 2 nights was recorded and I have the record (LP). Bow River, Forever now, You've Got Nothing I Want, Merry Go Round, Khe Sanh, No sense, Flame Trees just to name a few of their hits. Ian Moss does a great cover of "Georgia" breath taking.
He was in a great Aussie band " cold chisel " and he was awesome. But his solo careeris even better. He s way better than Springsteen. C mon ..🔥🔥🔥👍😎🔥🔥🔥👍
Another great Scottish singer
Yes, Jimmy is a legend here down under, good one!!👍👍👍
Michael Hutchence and Jimmy Barnes performing good times absolutely rocks
One of my all times faves... never a bad Barnsey song....
THe song Working Class Man was used in the movie of the same name starring Michael Keaton 1986
Great song. If you enjoy Australian rock music you should have a listen to Dragon, Noiseworks, Baby Animals, Powderfinger, Australian Crawl, Mondo Rock. Just to start. Thanks. Enjoy watching your reactions.
Jimmy Barnes and Bon Scott were friends at one stage. Bon Scott sang in a band called Fraternity before joining AC/DC. Jimmy Barnes sang with Fraternity sometime after Bon Scott left.
They're both Scotsman that migrated to Australia as kids.
Jimmy Barnes was in a band called Cold Chisel - Khe Sang, Flame Trees, Forever Now, Cheap Wine, You Got Nothing I Want, Bow River
You should try JOHN ENGLISH - he is a well known singer/actor in Australia. Just look him up. He has a very raspy voice like Jimmy.
This band is very basic rock. For Jimmy with the great Cold Chisel checkout "Working Class man" or " Kha San" ( Aussie unofficial anthem). Cold Chisel is one of those bands that sound simple , until you really start listening and realise how complex it is. Band made of VERY good musicians and song writers.
Thanks guys for playing my request. Did you pick up that it was kim carnes (betty davis eyes) singing back up vocals. I have seen Jimmy 23 times over the years. Never has disappointed.
I did not notice that! I’m going to have to watch again! - G
@@MikeandGinger showing my age ...... 51ish. i just wanted to bring you some aussie goodness. Might be pushing it. Not if you coul do Jimmy Barnes When your love has gone. but thanks. its like my parents watching music
It’s such a shame that she wasn’t mentioned as a “featuring Artist”. Kim Carnes is probably the only female equivalent to Jimmy Barnes who doesn’t sound out of place
Check out Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham together singing "Something is wrong with my baby" Absolutely outstanding voices killing it. You'll be glad you did.
Preferably live version - Hey Hey It's Saturday.
Jimmy Barnes a true Scotsman 🏴🇬🇧
Scuze me He is a genuine Scozzie. Scot (Glasgow born) Aussie!
He lives In Aussie but he's still a true Scot..Bloody Aussies.
1st time for me also. Reminded me of John "Cougar" Mellencamp, which is a good thing.
Jimmy's brother John Swan was also a singer and thought to be a possible replacement for Bon Scott in AC/DC when Bon died. Swanee was also a powerhouse and sounded very much like Jimmy. Swanee's biggest hit back in the day was "Lady What's Your Name" and a cover of "If I was a carpenter" .. certainly another Aussie talent although Jimmy and Swanee originally were from Scotland and immigrated when they were kids
Jimmy Barnes is our version of the Boss! They have played together too.
Bruce is very fond of Jimmy Barnes.
People say that we treat Jimmy Barnes like a God here in Aus. We don't, Jimmy Barnes is God.
Jimmy Barnes LEGEND 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺😎😎😎😎
Lol this one is a little better , ginger you may find some more of jimmys great songs you will love 😉
It’s nice to see you doing this with your dad 👍🏻.
Btw GREAT dress 😃
Do not disrespect my husband - G
The 80s was a great decade for Australian Rock. A lot of great Aussie bands/Artists had been gaming momentum during the mid to late 70s through to the 80s and just exploded onto the global scene as well.
I own 1 album with Jimmy Barnes. It has guitar wizard Steve Morse on guitar, wirh Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake on bass & drums (both played on the 1st two Ozzy albums).
That album is called Living Loud
Love Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel thanks for playing Australian Music, more please, suggest "when The war is over" Cold chisel.
Jimmy Barnes is an aussie legend. You should check out Australian singer John Farnham who is known as the Voice down under. Check him out singing “Your the Voice”
You picked it in one jimmy was born in Scotland but migrated to Australia’ like the boys from ac/dc the scratchy voice
Dont Worry he can sing near anything and has been going sice the early 70,s and has a huge list of music . Solo and With Cold Chisel.
If you like Jimmy Barnes' solo stuff, I Highly recommend you check out the band 'Cold Chisel'.
We did a Cold Chisel song a while back, but it was blocked by the Gods of Copyright.
Kim Carnes is singing back-up vocals
Thanks from down under 👏
John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes excel together.
Listen to the song he is most famous for from his solo career (Working class man) As Jimmy Barnes was the lead vocalist of Legendary band Cold Chisel.
😅😂 love the intro !!
Where here from the Pacific 🏝️.!!
do jimmy barnes and john farnham live on hey hey it's saturday-- when something is wrong with my baby
Voice reminds me - but Billy Idol "Rebell Yell" in your arm long list...😀
You have to listen to his latest release *stone cold*...brilliant
Jimmy Barnes - Seven Days, Driving Wheels, Too Much Love Ain't Enough, Still On My Side
He did tour with INXS, but before Michael Hutchence died. They were very very good mates :)
He's like the Aussie John Mellencamp. Just has another vocal level on John.
He also did Working Class Man. Originally with Cold Chisel back in my day.
Hi guys, I believe Jimmy Barnes was approached to front Van Halen at some point but knocked it back, little bit of trivia for you 👍
he was asked twice. after dave and sammy. . jimmy would never would mix with eddie.. jimmy is beyond ..............
Jimmy 🤘
Backing vocal is by Kim Carnes “Bette Davis Eyes”
Hi Mike and Ginger, would be great if you did some INXS songs, especially from their 1991 concert at Wembley Stadium in the UK, the 74000 strong crowd were jumping together pretty awesome to see, especially to songs including Disappear, New Sensation, Suicide Blonde, What You Need, Bitter Tears and add in the Stairs real nice song. Just discovered your Channel and have enjoyed it, New Aussie Subscriber.
His daughter Mahalia Barnes sings with the Soul Mates and can usually be seen backing the amazingly incredible Blues Guitarist Joe Bonamassa ]:P
The backing vocalist is Kim Carnes from Betty Davis Eyes. Not in the video but actual vocalist.
The original of this song had Kim Carnes on backing vocals.
Barnsey comes from Glasgow and imageate to Australia....... And did the pud rock seen
Kim Carnes (Bette Davis Eyes), did backup vocals on this track.
Listen to the Song "Stone Cold". Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa. Pure Blues at its best.
Listen to Divinyls - Only The Lonely and Pleasure and Pain
His sister is actually married to my uncle lol
I am very surprised that nobody has picked up on who was the backup guest vocalist on this track. Here is another clue for you and that she had a massive hit in her past. Either the late 70 's or early 80's.
Please go check out some cold chisel. Bow River live is amazing
In fact barnes replaced Bon scott in the early 70s in a band before acdc , when bon left for acdc
Never knew that. Great Aussie voices
In the band Fraternity?
Two other aussie bands i recommend are The Black Sorrows and the Hoodu Guru's.
Straight up not watched yet but will. I just got laugh when you said you thought Ozzy Osbourne cuz Jimmy Barnes got together with Bob daisly and some others called them selves Living Loud and did Ozzy Osbourne songs. Was great hearing the best rocker Australia has to offer singing Ozzy material. Back in the day when was teen and early 20s , i seen Jimmy live and he is great. I always wanted and thought in those days Jimmy voice was waysted singing aussie rock and he should of been a metal singer for sure. Was not till 2004ish that i seen this and i said to my self, see i was right all those years back lol just search Jimmy Barnes Living Loud and enjoy Cheers. Living Loud Jimmy Barnes - Vocals /Steve Morse - Guitar /Lee Kerslake - Drums /Bob Daisley - Bass /Don Airey - Keyboards.
these guys (chisel) started before ACDC
If Lou Gramm had that song in 1985,guaranteed top 10 hit.
See if you can track down his cover of the Bruce Springsteen song ‘tougher than the rest’
Well, now you will have to discover jimmy with cold chisel ;) When The War Is Over, Bow River, Choir Girl, Saturday Night....Any of those are guaranteed to please! :) Love the reactions guys! (also some suggestions for your next Divinyls song! - Good Die Young, Sleeping Beauty, Casual Encounter)
Thank you! We did do one Cold Chisel song before, and it got blocked 😑
@@MikeandGinger what a bummer! They must not understand the concept yet, I really can't see chisel having issue with more people discovering their music, they never broke into the U.S. So you would think they would welcome it :) somehow left out my fav divinyls song as well in my suggestions!! Divinyls - Elsie, a much deeper and darker song in tone and lyric, it's pure genius :) xx
@@rardyprice7418 In all likelihood it has nothing to do with the band. The copyright is often held by the recording company, and their decision makers are just a bunch of accountants and lawyers - G
@@MikeandGinger ahhh of course :( Sad that some artists no longer have control over their own personal stories and creations. At least the music is still heard and appreciated! Reactions like the ones on your channel certainly help with that :)
If you like his solo stuff, you might quite enjoy his earlier stuff with the band, Cold Chisel.
..."sounds a little bit like Brian Johnson.." should do, they were both born in Scotland, as were half of ACDC.
I approach Australian music (like the people) with caution.
Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi is a defense mechanism
I think Jim did a duet with Springsteen and they had turn Jim's microphone right down so he wouldn't sing over the top of Springsteen
want aussie grit ? Nothing as gritty as Rose tattoo -"scarred for life" ....!
Jimmy used to have a microphone in one hand and a bottle of vodka in the other....
Yes!! Jimmy is definitely one of two Springsteen equivalents (you can’t just have one to match the great man) the other is Paul Kelly. Jimmy is the rock side of Bruce, and Paul is the folk side
No Paul os Australia’s Bob Dylan
Your reference to this sounding more rough makes sense, it's from his album Working Class Man🤷
react Agseisa - When i look at you
Check out Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa "Lazy" Deep Purple Cover. Then you can REALLY say you know what Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa are about ]:P
If you want to get a really good feel for the mood of Cold Chisel, do the live version of 'Bow River". It showcases how each member of this band were uniquely talented. Aussie Pub Rock is it's own genre. It was a right of passage for Australian rock bands.ruclips.net/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/видео.html
Barnsey wasn’t too happy with the slick mid 80’s over production and the way he was promoted in the U.S. as an “Aussie Springsteen” or whatever.
Like in his days with the iconic Cold Chisel he was and still is a live act where a sterile studio doesn’t do this bloke justice.
Just new to you 2. Ginger ... if you haven't seen Tim Minchin sing Prejudice put it on you must do list. Doesn't have to be a reaction.
Jimmy has sung with springstein
Please listen to ADAGIO from Floor -NEW- (arthur willems)
Did Kim Carnes do the backing harmonies?
Og3ne - Bohemian Rhapsody. Please!
Scottish Born Aussie Rocker...lol
He arrived in Australia when he was five years old. Started singing in bands in Adelaide. Yeah, so definitely a Scottish-born, Aussie rocker.
She likes. Hears it's a love song. The guy a bit Mmmm.
Kim Carnes say back up on this
Jimmy Barnes with Kim Carnes backing him..
As good as this aint nowt on real live performance, Barnes or Chisel!!!!
Jimmy produced some good music over the years.
His stuff with Ian Moss was great.
Check out Ian Moss.
As Jimmy got older he started to scream more and not sing which is hard to listen too.
Though he has some good Music over the years , As a Man his a bit of a Tosser.
His TV Host son David Campbell is a COMPLETE Deadset TOSSER
How can they listen to Jimmy singing and say anything about his voice? In his prime his voice sounded like no one else on the planet. His range and power is incredible - just try singing one of his songs! And all she can do is giggle and talk about Springsteen and John Cougar Mellencamp. Ridiculous video.
Jimmy barns is a lead singer of Australian band....cold chisel....unfortunately broken up ..
Meh ..Bruce Springsteen 👎
