The singer has said that the rats are what society is turning into. With the internet, bullying is at an all time high, and bullies are in your face non stop. He calls it the primal rush to judgment. And yes they sound the same live
You HAVE to experience Ghost live if you haven't. They are seriously the most incredible. High energy, dancing, costume changes, EVERYTHING. They call it the Ritual. And it's worth every single penny. I go every time they come to town.
So many great tunes. *Cirice* is iconic. If you choose the evil *Year Zero,* choose a live performance (my favourite is from Hellfest 2016). Also, *Square Hammer,* *Call Me Little Sunshine* (the official video is great, but a shortened single version). Also, the beautiful *He Is,* the heavy *Mummy Dust,* the fabulous show opener *Kaisarion.*
Prequelle (the album) is a theme album based on the black plague. So Rats is obviously about the rats that spread the disease. But it's also a reflection of modern society where bullying has moved from the workplace or schoolyard to internet and social media. That's why he sings they still coming after you since you can't get away from the power of social media and modern phones. They can get into your home and life 24 hours a day in just a few clicks on the computer or phone. After three reactions it's also time to welcome the both of you to our family. You know if you have Ghost you have everything ❤️
Might I suggest their song Mummy Dust if you want a little bit of their rougher side. Cirice if you want the Grammy winner. Year Zero if you want their evil side (tongue in cheek, of course). Variety of hard rock. And if you want to see live...the Mary on a Cross live in Tampa is pretty accurate. One of the best shows I've ever seen (only band I've seen four times).
"belief's contagious, spreading disease," this is a common theme with ghost, the idea of society using religion as a weapon. Love to see you guys reacting to ghost. I think you'd enjoy "Cirice" (a song so good I named my dog after it 😆)
This is but one of the many brilliant things about the mask-even over face paint. Papa (or Cardinal) can be anyone, so he can do just about anything. Plus, it allows Tobias to be in two places at once, so Ghost can do more. It’s a stroke of genius.
Guys, GUYS: Ghost just released a new compilation called "13 Commandments". You might have heard a bunch of those songs but they used the chance to release one of their best songs that was originally an obscure B-side, the song is called Zenith and I highly suggest you react to it. You will not be disappointed.
one of my favorite small details in the music video is that the horse that is shown somewhat further in to the video is a white horse, a little reference to the fact that in revelations 6:8, death is said to ride in on a pale horse with hell following him.
I saw Ghost with my dad in concert about a year ago, and they sang this song. The singer sounds extremely clear through the mask and yes he does boogie hard!
I'm pretty sure he also was all the Ghouls and was playing all the instruments in this video too. Such an insanely talented guy. I saw them in June and fucking hell, what a show. He sounds fantastic live too! If you both get a chance to see them live then do it for sure
"for he rode in on a pale horse, and death followed him." - bible quote definitely enjoying you guys getting into Ghost, no two songs really sound too samey and that is something i enjoy about the band. for a taste of something heavier, here is some suggestions; Year Zero Mummy Dust Faith Call Me Little Sunshine cheers
Ghost are amazing. Saw them live about a year ago in Avicii Arena in Stockholm. They come from Linköping, The largest city here in the Östergötland region 🤘🏻
Cirice and Square Hammer are the two songs that got me into Ghost. I’d love to see you check those out! (But any Ghost song would be great… so much variety and fun)
The songs Rats is about something coming and destroying everything quicker than anything you can do to stop it, using Rats and the plague in this as a sort of simile. That is not him dancing it’s a double. All Ghost concerts are just incredible. Ghost is awesome keep going Cirice or Dance Macabre next please or even something from the latest album for a darker sound Call me little Sunshine ❤❤❤
there is a video from Ghost of Mary on a Cross, Live in Tampa Florida. I know you guys have covered that song already but it is a live show. So if you wanna know what they are like in concert maybe check it out
The t-shirts alone warrant a subscription! I'm a Ghost reaction video junkie, and you guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels! Keep the entertaining Ghost content coming!
Tobias' voice does sound a little different in live shows but not hugely, and the mask has gotten a lot better over the years and he's an amazing front man. If you're feeling the heavier stuff i'll echo another commenter about Mummy dust, From the Pinnacle to the Pit and also Con Clavi Con Dio from their early work.
RATS was the first song I got into Amazing live, sounds exactly the same and their energy is amazing too, GHOST is also unique TOBIAS just has incredible showmanship and he’s a very good entertainer, he does not get enough credit for his talents and he also has a great voice, again amazing live
I don't think there was any formal explanation as to what the rats symbolize. It can be viewed as Social media and the issues that have come from it. Many think that it is a jab at the ex members that brought the lawsuit towards him, and exposed the identity behind the band. I'd recommend Faith by them, a bit heavier and will get the headbanging going. Year Zero is a great one for a funky any church tune, I'd also recommend Elizabeth or Ritual off their first album, both that are catchy as hell.
Love me some ABBA Black Sabbath! The Prequelle era has so many great songs! If you want a hell of a show, they are a must see live. He sings perfectly live with the mask. Great band to deep dive into!
I will echo what everyone else has said about the rats being society and an unstoppable force coming to destroy society, but there's another layer where the album this comes from is about the Black Plague used as a simile to our current times. Dance Macabre should be next! It's my favorite of theirs and possibly their catchiest tune.
I wanna see them review Twenties! I think they’re the absolute BEST live. I love their studio recordings, but NOTHING beats them live. RITE HERE RITE NOW totally converted me
Ghost released this album about the bubonic plague set in modern times in 2018. Their most recent album which is about the fall of empires and world war came out shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine (if I’m remembering correctly). And that album was a year or so delayed due to covid. Honestly I’m nervous about what the theme of their next album will be, Tobias seems to be able to predict the future.
Definitely recommend Faith, Mummy dust, Zenith,Twenties and Respite of the Spitalfields if you're more into the heavier sounding songs, great reaction tho 👏
I love their music, even though they are a little different. Also, wanted to let you guts know, Beartoith has released all kinds of new music and videos.
Thank you for doing more Ghost! Tobias is a genius & a great showman live. Please continue the Ghost train with Faith, Twenties, Square Hammer & Cirice.
I love these reaction videos from you guys, I've met a lot of awesome bands and music because of your work. I'm all in for your reactions and especially your "and remember guys..." outro. I'd love to see what you guys think of Ghost's Ghuleh/Zombie Queen, the classic Year Zero, or Square Hammer! (And Eric is right, LOL)
For the lore, this is Cardinal copia, the next in line for being Papa Emeritus IV (and the love child of Papa Nihil and Sister Imperiter 🤫) He is getting into the role here, and would then on stage, when papa nihil ‘died’ mid performance, Copia dawned the robes and makeup to how he looks as of now and ascended as papa 4
For me the Prequelle era of Ghost is where I fell in love with the Ghost. I had heard some earlier stuff, but this era has been amazing. I feel Tobias has developed such an interesting swagger as Cardi C/Papa IV. His confidence as these recent characters have been great to watch. Ghost live is the best!!!! Such a fun, energetic, fantastic "ritual"
Their live shows really are some of the best spectacles you can see today! Not quite Rammstein level but close !! I’ve seen them 3 times and they were all breathtaking
I've seen Ghost 3 times, and each time is an experience! No other band in my long history has ever come close to Ghost! I may be a musical snob, but sheeesh, Ghost hooked me like no other band ever has!
Awesome reaction! More Ghost!!! I think Rats is about the spread of Christianity, particularly the ideas of the angry, vengeful God and original sin. In 'times of turmoil' (the Black Plague is a main theme of the album) many people tend to turn to religion, but if you accept those beliefs, you'll always live in fear of God's judgment and being sent to hell and you'll be at the mercy of any church/preacher/cult that promises salvation. Ironically, instead of faith in God saving you from the 'curse' of the plague, faith itself becomes the real curse. On the first listen you naturally think the 'rats' mentioned are those spreading the plague, but actually the rats are the preachers, or the religious ideas themselves. Can mean many other things, but I think this interpretation is the most spot-on. Tobias loves writing lyrics that are incredibly subversive of traditional religious narratives, especially those of Christianity, but in a subtle way, buried underneath other more 'obvious' meanings. It's brilliant writing, and it makes the song even more awesome to listen to when you're in on the joke :D
I've gone down the rabbit hole of you guys reacting to Ghost...I'm cracking up because after almost every song, your like "this is might be my favorite Ghost song". Which I completely understand because I've said the same thing everytime.
Great reaction guys!! I love this song...the vibe & groove is SO infectious (just like Rats!!) Ghost is a pure resurrection of glam metal - 70's/80's influences abound, with a slightly 'darker' and more macabre imagery, visuals and lyricism! Tobias sings just fine with the prosthetic mask on live! This song was bonkers in concert. Further considerations: Square Hammer (absolute must - esp. if you liked Rats), Cirice, Ghuleh/Zombie Queen, Ritual, Year Zero, Dance Macabre, Witch Image & Miasma (from same album as Rats - the latter is an instrumental - and epically 80's!) Such a fun group! Cheers!
I'm glad you both decided to go down this rabbit hole. I hope you continue to catch-up on Ghost. There's so many good ones still yet. Call me little sunshine, spillways, darkness of my heart, square hammer, Circe. If you would love to hear more grittiness from him, i suggest crucify or he goes a little harder with year zero. Their short films are hilarious, i would love to see you react to them.
This album came after a lawsuit from the previous Nameless Ghouls. They claimed they were not receiving all the pay they had signed for. Tobias claimed they were. They left the band and that was it. The album is basically a diss track after diss track on them for dumping the band
Love you guys!!! You really need to react Respite on the Spitalfields, Phantom of the Opera, Cirice, and well...there are so many!! Keep the awesome videos coming!
Really happy you guys finally reviewed Rats. It’s one of my favorites songs of theirs with an amazing message about society. Dance Macabre is another similar to this that you would love. The best live video to watch would be Mary on a Cross. That one has good production and really shows how amazing they are live. Cannot wait for the next review, thank you so much guys❤
I managed to see Ghost live juuuust before the quarantines happened, and they were legitimately one of the most amazing live shows I've ever seen. If you have the chance, don't hesitate. For next steps, I'd very strongly recommend Square Hammer (official), He Is (official - it's hilarious) and Year Zero.
Thanks for the great reaction. I'm very glad you liked it! Ghost is a truly fun and unique band. We're asking for more! I recommend Kaisarion, Spillways, Respite on the Spitalfields, Square Hammer, Cirice (official music video, you can catch the lyrics yourself), He is (official!), Call Me Little Sunshine (maybe Jimmy Kimmel live?), Year Zero (definitely live! This song shows its power in the live version. Hellfest 2016 is a good choice). There really isn't a single Ghost song that's bad. But these are the more important ones in the catalog or the ones you might like. A little piece of advice at the end, Ghost official music videos have often added lyrics (not automatically generated) so you don't have to choose between them and the lyrics video.
Great reaction. The theme that this album was the Plague, and Rats have historically been part of that. This was from 2018 - a few years before COVID. This one melds 80's metal (Ozzy/Dio), with Queen/Def Leppard background vocals. Ghost are excellent songwriters - everything they do is top quality.
I don’t like much from Ghost but this one is one of em. My personal favorite by them is Cirice and I love Dance Macabre as well. Love to see reactions to them as well.
There’s no music video to it, but Ghost DID just officially release a longtime b-side known as “ZENITH” a couple days ago. They put it up on RUclips as well - I think you guys will dig it!
We need to talk about the lore though, it’s the best part, and it makes the albums make more sense. The theatrics and lore really make them more alluring
I love his dancing in this video. I also love the meaning behind this song, like the rats being society and how it has become more toxic and corrupt through the years because of the internet.
The back story on rats is based on the legal issues he's been dealing with the former/original band members. It's an absolute burn song aimed at them. The former members are considered the rats in the lyrics.
My favourite band !! I saw them live this year and honestly the mask in no way hinders his ability to sing or Perform. Might be a little biased by loving this band so much but any music fan can appreciate a good performance and I’m yet to hear or see them live and not sound like they’ve just recorded it - perfection and Tobias is a lyrical genius !
His masks has gotten better over the years. Now you can barely tell it's a mask. Their live shows are very entertaining, Tobias is a great showman.
The singer has said that the rats are what society is turning into. With the internet, bullying is at an all time high, and bullies are in your face non stop. He calls it the primal rush to judgment. And yes they sound the same live
Yup
Also that it’s an allegory to religion too!
Well, musically, they are just as good live. I think Tobias has some understandable issues with his prosthetics when singing live.
I have heard that The song is about his formal band mates and the lawsuit. And that they are Rats. But it can be both.
@@wemakevideos2495 he said in an interview how social media takes things and runs with it, like the lawsuits, they took it and ran.
These recommendations are perfect. Great lineup for an introduction to the band. I just hope the guys see this.
Circe 100% should be next 🤘
nerd
I mean you can do the music video for Year Zero, just don't show it on the screen lol
Great picks! I would also add Faith which is one of my favorites ❤
Prequelle (the album) is a theme album based on the black plague. So Rats is obviously about the rats that spread the disease. But it's also a reflection of modern society where bullying has moved from the workplace or schoolyard to internet and social media. I recommend spillways, square hammer, and little sunshine I think yall would like those as well 🖤
I second this
That ending riff is so so good, makes me excited whenever the song comes on shuffle.
Dance Macabre is another great one
"belief's contagious, spreading disease," this is a common theme with ghost, the idea of society using religion as a weapon.
Love to see you guys reacting to ghost. I think you'd enjoy "Cirice" (a song so good I named my dog after it 😆)
Tobias had a professional dancer do the dance sequences in this video. I saw Ghost live in August and the concert was amazing, they sounded great.
This is but one of the many brilliant things about the mask-even over face paint. Papa (or Cardinal) can be anyone, so he can do just about anything. Plus, it allows Tobias to be in two places at once, so Ghost can do more. It’s a stroke of genius.
I have seen them 5 times in concert. He sounds great. The mask doesn't affect his sound at all.
You should try Spillways next.
Oh My Gawwd, This Is Fantastic!! 🥰😎 Going on Mom's Playlist Today!
Guys, GUYS: Ghost just released a new compilation called "13 Commandments". You might have heard a bunch of those songs but they used the chance to release one of their best songs that was originally an obscure B-side, the song is called Zenith and I highly suggest you react to it. You will not be disappointed.
The way I screamed when I saw Zenith on there finally 😩😭😭❤❤❤❤
Most of the dancing was a dancer and not Tobias. Do "Faith", it's also heavy and a banger! The live version is cool
I love seeing what chaotic beer chalice Eric chooses each video just as much as I love the reactions. 😂
Same 🤣
one of my favorite small details in the music video is that the horse that is shown somewhat further in to the video is a white horse, a little reference to the fact that in revelations 6:8, death is said to ride in on a pale horse with hell following him.
every time you guys upload a new video its the first one to show up on my home page
RUclips is *finally* learning what I actually want to see😂
Dude same here 😂
I saw Ghost with my dad in concert about a year ago, and they sang this song. The singer sounds extremely clear through the mask and yes he does boogie hard!
Yesssss, MOAR Papa!!!🤌🏼🔥🤘🏼
I'm pretty sure he also was all the Ghouls and was playing all the instruments in this video too. Such an insanely talented guy.
I saw them in June and fucking hell, what a show. He sounds fantastic live too! If you both get a chance to see them live then do it for sure
Saw them live last year one of best shows I’ve seen! they got jams they’re older stuff is something you guys would love
You need to see these guys live!!!! Fuckin incredible
I love Ghost to he honest. They are fun for me! Thanks for doing this one!
What is with eric having a different outlandishly large cup every reaction lmao
"for he rode in on a pale horse, and death followed him." - bible quote
definitely enjoying you guys getting into Ghost, no two songs really sound too samey and that is something i enjoy about the band. for a taste of something heavier, here is some suggestions;
Year Zero
Mummy Dust
Faith
Call Me Little Sunshine
cheers
Ghost are amazing. Saw them live about a year ago in Avicii Arena in Stockholm. They come from Linköping, The largest city here in the Östergötland region 🤘🏻

Gotta do cirice, one of my favorite songs of all time, it’s so addicting and much heavier than what you’ve heard so far
RATS was the first song I got into
Amazing live, sounds exactly the same and their energy is amazing too, GHOST is also unique
TOBIAS just has incredible showmanship and he’s a very good entertainer, he does not get enough credit for his talents and he also has a great voice, again amazing live
I love the last 15 seconds of this song. Wish they would expand more on that sound.
I don't think there was any formal explanation as to what the rats symbolize. It can be viewed as Social media and the issues that have come from it. Many think that it is a jab at the ex members that brought the lawsuit towards him, and exposed the identity behind the band.

Oh man, I thought this was Cancer Bats - RATS at first. 😂 I was taken aback.
Love me some ABBA Black Sabbath! The Prequelle era has so many great songs! If you want a hell of a show, they are a must see live. He sings perfectly live with the mask. Great band to deep dive into!
Abba-saba-osborn

. . . It sounds like a Movie Theme! 🤗 Geeeeze, I keep commenting 😂😂
He is amazing in concert and sometimes he even sounds better live
I saw they live show and was amazing! Please check out Ritual, Spillways or Call me little Sunshine!
Oooooh!! I'm so excited for this! 😎🥰
The song "Faith" right after this one on the album bangs as well , would love to see you react to it
I wanna see them review Twenties! I think they’re the absolute BEST live. I love their studio recordings, but NOTHING beats them live. RITE HERE RITE NOW totally converted me
They really give me Blue Oyster Cult vibes, which is great because im a fan.
5:50 Ooooh now you have to check out MOAC live in Tampa to see for yourself.
The album this was on, Prequelle, had the concept of the Black Death, hence rats.
I need to know where you guys found those shirts 😂
Absolutely love the choreography in this video!
The shirts are killing me 😂 you guys rock 🤘
Ghost released this album about the bubonic plague set in modern times in 2018. Thank you for doing more Ghost! Tobias is a genius & a great showman live. Please continue the Ghost train with Faith, Twenties, Square Hammer & Cirice.
Rats is one of my favorites by Ghost. Love that it has that 80s metal sound with the guitar too.
Cardinal Copia was my fave.

I’ve seen them 3 times and they were all breathtaking
I've seen Ghost 3 times, and each time is an experience! No other band in my long history has ever come close to Ghost! I may be a musical snob, but sheeesh, Ghost hooked me like no other band ever has!
A) they are really good in concert!
b) my favorite Ghost song is I'm a Marionette
The energy in their music is like a shot of pure adrenaline. Btw would love to see you react on Dark by October Ends
Guys just go on a Ghost journey. There are no bad tracks. You’re just going to love some more than others.🤘🏼😈
First Ghost song I heard. Kept hearing it on the radio and it got stuck in my head.
DO CALL ME LITTLE SUNSHINE!!! GHOST KILLS IT ON THIS ONE !!!
5:49 Eric, to answer your question. YES He does!
LOOOVE IT! thanks for reacting!
These dudes really are something else love the singers style aslo still keeping the 80s rock sound
On the CD, Rats into Faith is such a great 1 - 2 punch!!
Best concert ever. Expensive but soooo worth it.
You guys should react to Cirice. It's the hit that put them on the map.
They are such a fun band to see live.
Love you guys!!! You really need to react Respite on the Spitalfields, Phantom of the Opera, Cirice, and well...there are so many!! Keep the awesome videos coming!
Dance Macabre is my favourite Ghost song, definitely recommend.

Dance Macabre has to be next. Can't wait for that reaction
This song has haunted me for years. Every time I read or hear the word "rats" I hear "Ah whoah!!" in my head. -_-
Thanks for the great reaction. I'm very glad you liked it! Ghost is a truly fun and unique band. We're asking for more! Many also associated this song with the "Black Death" that ravaged Europe
This is still my favorite Ghost song. I've seen them live so many times. Live shows are pretty entertaining. He does a lot of talking to the crowd.
🔥🔥💯😎✌️
I don’t like much from Ghost but this one is one of em. My personal favorite by them is Cirice and I love Dance Macabre as well. Love to see reactions to them as well.

Words of wisdom right there.
I'm gonna live forever.
Do Mary on a cross Live in Tampa. It's a must !! I'm here for it
We need to talk about the lore though, it’s the best part, and it makes the albums make more sense. The theatrics and lore really make them more alluring
So many echoes of Dio and Ace Frehley in the guitars on this track! Awesome!
I saw them live this year and honestly the mask in no way hinders his ability to sing or
Perform. Might be a little biased by loving this band so much but any music fan can appreciate a good performance and I’m yet to hear or see them live and not sound like they’ve just recorded it - perfection and Tobias is a lyrical genius !
The Cardinal Copia character was hinted at being associated with death (listen to Witch Image), so the pale horse and it's rider was death.
Clicked on the video so fast 😅❤❤. Fully behind Ghost deepdive
