I’m not sure if you guys were aware of this, but this is the first reaction I’ve seen where someone hasn’t instantly said “OH MY GOD ITS THE TIKTOK SONG” when the chorus hit and that was *so refreshing* for me😂
Agree, though I'm glad the hype happened to this song and not one of their covers. They do some brilliant covers, but this is their own, through and through. :-)
Kaisarion is my absolute favourite song of Ghost's - there's just something about it that gets me so fucken HYPED. I can't listen to it while driving because I don't wanna cause an accident 😂
It's a play on words. Mary on a cross - Marijuana Cross. Tobias does this all the time that's why you get different answers from different fans because you can read in more than just one thing in the lyrics and still have a point. Fun fact is that Tobias released this on 13th of September 2019 with the hang up that is was Papa Nihil who first released it back in 1969. And on 13th of September 1969 Scooby Doo had premieres on American tv. A little nod to the haters that says that Ghost just play Scooby Doo metal. Unfortunately Tobias was to smart so the most of them didn't get that he was aiming to them.
I honestly adore both Ghost and Scooby Doo so I never saw it as a bad thing. Also, Scooby Doo has had some AMAZING songs in their movies and shows so the insult falls pretty flat.
someone correct me if i’m wrong, but tobias writes and records all the studio music on his own, and he has a touring band. he’s like a modern day satanic Prince 😂
Tobias is the main songwriter (he co-writes with several professional songwriters of late). He hires musicians to play the songs in the studio, and he hires a different group of people to play live (most who have their own solo careers, you can find out who they are if you look hard enough). In the early days, he would sometimes play some or most of the instruments on some tracks himself, but these days, he may play bass every now and then on a track, but he uses a group of musicians these days he's comfortable with, like Akesson from Opeth who has been his go-to guitarist of late.
This was a fun and great reaction to this particular song and video. Since "tickle you internally" got you guys to giggle, I must recommend "Monstrance Clock" as the song you should check out. The subject matter of it will give you a little bit to talk about as well. I haven't seen anyone mention it as a Ghost song to give a listen and review of it yet (I'm not going to scroll through all of the comments on all of the reactions you've done of their videos/songs to see if any other fans have mentioned it). Seriously though, you guys have become my favorite reactors to Ghost! 🤘🏻😅
The EP that Mary on a Cross was released on was all supposed to sound like it was from the 60's. This is my second favorite Ghost song and by the way, whoever called Hunter's Moon weak, get your ears checked because that song is a fucking banger.
THANK YOU!!! I somehow dont remember hearing it when I watched the movie/end credits. However when I heard it I immediately fell in love with it. Its one of my favs
Someone already said this but you guys should definitely check out the Tampa live version of this song even if you don’t upload it, the showmanship of Tobias and the energy in the crowd are incredibly electric and positive
i assume folks have already said this, but ghost as a whole is like a satire of the satanic panic, not literal satanists. there's a whole world of lore behind the band, like how this song specifically was supposedly from 1969 and sung by a different guy than other later songs. in reality, it's the same singer, but he plays different characters depending on the "era." it's really fun to dig into if you're a lore geek (or, weirdly, if you have an interest in catholic imagery and history).
it’s a play on words 👏🏻 but also love to see you guys reacting to ghost finally. they have such an interesting sound and i’ll say it again: tobias is one talented mf.
I think you guys would really LOVE Faith. It's my absolute favourite Ghost track, although it's just one of many. Check out the official lyric video rather than the music video since you get the full length, unedited track (the MV chops out little bits, particularly shortening a really KILLER guitar solo). Alternatively there's also Cirice, Dance Macabre, Square Hammer, Year Zero, Spillways, He Is, Kiss the Go-Goat and Rats - all undeniable BANGERS.
Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Imminence, Ghost, and Spiritbox. That's the majority of my playlist. This song is, in the lore, from the original Papa in the 60s. The keys have a very 60s feel as does the chorus.
Love your reactions so much! Here are some “popular” Ghost songs to try that might give a well rounded idea of their music: Year Zero, Cirice, Dance Macabre, From the Pinnacle to the Pit and Square Hammer
I think you should go through their video catalog. If you deviate there are some fantastic songs, but they're worth hearing all the styles they've put out. Dance Macabre, Rats, Year Zero.
Cirice, Darkness At The Heart Of My Love, and Griftwood are also great And the live recording Respite on the Spitalfields hits different. the ghoulettes and swiss have amazing vocals
I love Ghost, such a clean, sonically pleasing, yet satanic undertones....they get a lot of hate for being a "gimmick", or "gateway" band, but you cannot deny how damn good they sound, their uniqueness...and i really like the kind of 80's sound they take on at times. Definitely an amazing, and underappreciated band.
You should 100% react to the live performance of this in Tampa! You will really get the ‘full clarity and see the artistry’ of the band! Also Cirice and Square Hammer are probably two of their most popular songs. You should give them a listen.
As a person who has a belief in Christian faith, I honestly get surprised by how many people think this songs lyrics are blasphemous or sexual. Music really is subjective. I never saw the whole "You go down just like Holy Mary" as suggestive. I always saw it as someone's personal fall, like the debilitating feeling when something in life wasn't what they expected. Personally I've always felt this song was a kind of coming of age song. The song always gave me a kidfree and nostalgic sound. I always viewed Mary as a symbol of purity and innocence and having her on a cross always made me think how it's the pure at heart are always subjected to a lot of life's hardships. I can see it as a story of friends growing up and as they see life and how cruel it is, their innocence is lost (they're their own mary on a cross) An absolute bop
According to Ghost, the lyrics are fully sexual including Tobias miming fingering and eating someone out on stage and thrusting during the song. The title is also a play on marijuana cross with Mary on a cross. A lot of people hear this song and assume it’s sad or about a fall from grace, but according to the band it’s about sex. It’s a great song and I’m not discounting how you interpret it, just enlightening you to its original meaning and intentions.
I'm a huge fan of this singer called Gabriel Henrique. If you first react to him, you can't stop it anymore... He is the king of whistle tone, and does riffs and runs, and belts like a diva... he is phenomenal. You should give him a try....
Glad to see you trying some more Ghost. I think you would get more views with some of their bigger hits, such Dance Macabre, Rats, Cirice, Square Hammer, and He Is
I've been seeing Ghost live since they played in small theaters, and now they're an arena band. And I have to say that they have ALWAYS been an amazing live band. Their ability to reproduce studio quality songs on stage is second to none.
It's supposed to be done in the sixties by a previous incarnation of the band. It's in that hippie era and all about Mary Jane... Mary-on-a = Mariujana! It tickles you inside...
Hold on Lads, so this is only your second Ghost reaction???!😮. Glad you had fun with that one 😂😂 Get on board now! Ghost are bloody awesome. Look forward to more 🤙
You gotta do one of the following (in order): Cirice (grammy winning), Year Zero, Square Hammer, Mummy Dust, Con Clavi Con Dio, Respite on the Spitalfields, Zombie Queen, and Ritual
Great reaction guys!! My first time hearing this song was seeing Ghost live in 2019 here in Hamilton, Ontario - they hadn't even released it 'officially' yet - it was brand new - and it was AWESOME!! That keyboard riff had me going the whole time! Even live, the vocals were quite clear, so the second time the chorus was sung - I got the gist of what Tobias was saying (wink, wink!) and was laughing my butt off! Such an overtly sexual song, but so catchy! I agree that Hunter's Moon wasn't the right one to start with! I'd HIGHLY recommend Square Hammer, Cirice, Ghuleh/Zombie Queen, Dance Macabre, Rats...to continue with your Ghost education. Great band! Fun 'glam' metal as far as I'm concerned. Cheers!
Definitely would recommend you guys check out the live version of this. Saw them finally back in August ive been to alot of concerts but they were one of the best ive been to. They were flawless.
The live version from I think Tampa is the best live there is and so extremely clear that you can even hear all back vocals which harmonize so incredibly well
This song is always on repeat on my playlist, i love this because of that one channel who features coloured vintage videos from the early 1900's with this song 😊
Noooooooooo you should have reacted to the TAMPA version of this song! its PERFECT! Go and watch it on the side ( no need for a reaction ), it will explain alot more to you about the band AND the fans!
I love Ghost. I love their look, their sound, they're great in concert! That song takes me further back like The Doors, The Byrds of the late 60s. I love how in all these reactions to ghost people always go from simple head banging and enjoying the song to immediately looking like they shit their pants 😂
From what I was told this song was about Papa Nihil (the guy with black hair singing) expressing his love and how beautiful he thinks his wife Sister Imperator is (the blonde girl wearing green)
HELL YEAH i'm in, lemme watch more of you guys! and PLS watch the live version, there is almost nothing really different about it aside from stunning looks, great live vocals and the fact you can hear the background vocalists so much better (they're amazing!!) - i NEED you to react to "Spillways" btw it's SUCH a good song + you see the ghouls playing there (and now get into the bands lore... hahahahahahaha)
I do recommend some of the live videos so you get a feel for their incredible stage performance, but i think diving into their music videos and regular catalogue first is the right move. I really hope you guys check out more Ghost! They're one of my top 5 all time bands and they've got a lot of range. The albums all have their own sound and focus and Tobias has never shied away from being political in his music. The song doesn't get as much love as some of the others that are mentioned in the comments but i highly recommend listening to Twenties.
Just started listening to Ghost. Weirdly enough, I find your reaction video as entertaining as the actual video! 😂 I love that you guys appreciate the brilliant lyrics and his amazing voice.
I was first introduced to the band music with Square Hammer, Rats and Dance Macabre. Then I found this song it was so good, you should do a reaction to their newest song based off Phantom of the Opera. It's epic!
Ghost are the tongue-in-cheekest band ever but they also have legit musical chops. Huge fan ngl, always glad to see new converts. Hail Satan and have a nice day!
I’d definitely check out some of their live performances if you can, even in your own time. I’ve seen so many bands live and they put on one of the best shows.
Yessss! Fucking love Ghost! Really hope you react to more. One of my favourites is Faith which gets slightly overlooked by reactors on youtube so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you eventually do that. Loved the reaction
I’m not sure if you guys were aware of this, but this is the first reaction I’ve seen where someone hasn’t instantly said “OH MY GOD ITS THE TIKTOK SONG” when the chorus hit and that was *so refreshing* for me😂
I never even knew this was a TikTok song until I heard it in TikTok after I listened to it for the first time
Oh hell yes
Does it help that I discovered ghost by myself and I don't use it never used tik tok? So I actually like this song on my own
I hate the whole it's a tick tok song it's not it just so happens to be played on Ticktok
Agree, though I'm glad the hype happened to this song and not one of their covers. They do some brilliant covers, but this is their own, through and through. :-)

honestly would love more ghost, especially some of the past big hitters like Cirice, square hammer, and year zero
Cirice is a banger, hell even Year Zero would be awesome
Darkness at the heart of my love is my favourite. Danse Macabre is good too.
Agree with all these, to add then Spillways, Kiss the GOAT too
Call Me Little Sunshine is awesome as well.

It's crazy how huge this song became. Don' remember a rock song this big since Do I Wanna Know. and in THIS genre, not since Black Parade
My 13 year old son got me into Ghost. I really like the remakes they did of Phantom of the Opera (Iron Maiden) and Jesus He Knows Me (Genesis).
Their cover of Nocturnal Me by Echo and the Bunnymen is also amazing. Listen to the original and then listen to Ghost.
Also check out their cover of It's a Sin by Petshop Boys!
