I fist saw Cold Chisel in a Sydney hotel in 1976 with no more than 120 people. I was up close to Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes. They were very young 19-20 yr olds. Security was just 1 guy on the door and no charge to get in. They weren't famous then, but hell they were great ! . . . a lot of their songs in those days were covers. They did James Brown songs and others. They were very talented kids. 3 years later they were superstars in Aust and NZ. They were snubbed in America by a record company because they played "black music". In disgust they came back to Australia. Cold Chisel made it the hard way without a lot of promotion - just pure talent, embracing the blues, rockabilly and rock'roll. As Jimmy once said "Music ain't got no color".
Chisel "broke up" in1983, Barnes went solo and has a ton of great tunes. Chisel has "reformed" again and has made some great cd`s in the 2000`s. Unfortunately their drummer/songwriter Steven Prestwitch passed away in 2011 from cancer. But they are still doing their thing and i love em`. Songs with Chisel .-"Forever now", "Star Hotel", "Saturday night", "You`ve got nothing i want, "My turn to cry", "When the War is over", "Khe Sahn" and more. Barnestunes:"Working class man", "Driving wheels", "I`d die to be with you tonight", "Lay down your guns", "Let`s make it last all night", "Two fires", "I`m still on your side". I could go on and on :)

Great reaction man. Check out Stone Cold by Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa. Jimmy is 58 year's old in this one but his voice is incredible, it has matured like a 20 year old Bourbon and Joe on guitar is awesome.

Ian Moss is the very talented co-singer and guitarist here. The song that he wrote is about his time in the tropical north of Australia .He performs at his own concerts. Ian sings the beautiful, classic American song, 'Georgia" at one of the Cold Chisel concerts. Please check out the You Tube video of it .The brains behind the group is Don Walker who plays the piano. The fantastic harmonica player is not a permanent member of the group. Australian groups honed their skills and talent playing at (big) pub venues. Jimmy also does some softer songs, eg. 'Stoned In Love With You,' which are lovely. Please react to more of JOHN FARNHAM LIVE as he is a musical genius of voice and a consummate showman. Enjoying your reactions.

But to see chisel in their prime, doing their thing, they covered ‘Wild Thing’ back in the day, and filmed it. It’s like it was written for them.

I've been a Chisel fan from way back, and couldnt agree more. While there are other songs I might like better, this is THE concert performance, bar none.
Love that you were blown away… I think this is one of the best Cold Chisel performances ever. Even though they are older, they are experienced, dried out and doing it for the love of the music. Some early works I fell in love with were the studio versions as some of the live versions are a little frantic, unintelligible and so fast as to miss the nuances of the art. I still have the first Chisel album I bought “East” Stunning band, timeless songs, everyone in the band is a deadset legend!!! 🇦🇺
Cold Chisel have always been a staple with songs like Flame Trees, Choirgirl, Khe Sanh, When the War is Over. All my music memories are of Jimmy solo as the band had broken up by the time I was really listening to music. I had a cassette with Lay Down Your Guns and later he released his Soul Deep album. Since then there has been more Chisel touring and both Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes can be seen touring solo. I am yet to get to a concert, never seem to be in the right place at the right time.

It's a shame that the American music industry/rock press/label etc weren't smart enough to pick up on just how brilliant this band was. At their height, they were the best rocking band in the world. Ask any Australian ... they'll tell you. Chisel were simply the best.

Must've been a shock to discover Chisel has TWO lead singers and this song just happened to have the guitarist in that role. I find Mossy easier on the ear, anyway.
Australia had a very Strong Pub Rock Scene and these Australian bands were forged in that crucible if you could not hold an audience you did not get far other bands included The Angels , Midnight Oil, Australian Crawl, Mondo Rock, Hodoo Gurus, Spy V's Spy, Paul Kelly, Hunters and Collectors, INXS ETC

Just stumbled across you Alex & especially your OZ Reactions. Apart from you (obviously😛), I was drawn to your backdrop...I immediately thought of The Golden Girls TV series & the banana plant wallpaper in Blanches bedroom😱😀🤣. Have now searched & watched all your OZ Reactions & looking forward to more😄 I reckon you are a great guy & your appreciation of our talented OZ artists (I refuse to be dragged into where they were born..All that matters to me is THE ARTISTS THEMSELVES CALL THEMSELVES AUSTRALIAN...yes some by birth & yes some by citizenship. Thats what Australia is...a melting pot.
Just subscribed👍👍
Love from OZ (An Australian born to Dutch parents😊)
Thanks for joining us! Planning on diving into many more Australian music gems.
You Got Nothing I Want is their raised middle finger to the American music industry.
I'm Australian, grew up with Chisel, heard this song more times than I can count, even seen them live a couple of times. And I STILL get the same facial expressions as you listening to this. Never gets old....
It's a shame that the American music industry/rock press/label etc weren't smart enough to pick up on just how brilliant this band was. At their height, they were the best rocking band in the world. Ask any Australian ... they'll tell you. Chisel were simply the best.
wild thing live - bring a spare pair of pants
Great reaction 💥
I would love to watch your reaction to Matt Corby playing 'Brother' on Triple J Like a version. Another great Aussie talent. Your passion for music really shines through on your vids! Cheers
thank you so much! I'll check out the Corby!!
@@OutOnThatLine yes do that one.
Even with the other great performances in this clip the harmonica is a stand out
An absolute ripper of a song, so energetic 👏👏👏
They wrote the song You got nothing I want which explains why they didn’t make it in the US
Wild thing live by Cold Chisel.... perhaps try that one brother.... merry Christmas
Check out Jimmy Barnes with his son David Campbell - they are fantastic together 😂
Must've been a shock to discover Chisel has TWO lead singers and this song just happened to have the guitarist in that role. I find Mossy easier on the ear, anyway.
You better be ready mate
Plenty more where that came from
Check out Wild Thing Cold Chisel’s Last Stand Concert 1983
check out "Wild Thing" live by Cold Chisel
Listen to powderfinger next, they were IMO the best band in the world in the early 2000s, but never got the attention they deserved being Australian
Wild Thing. Do it now
Jimmy’s brother in law doesn’t go too bad either!
Listen to Jimmy Barnes singing lay down your gun please
Ian moss sings this one mate
Jimmy pissed alot of his money up against the dam wall, that is for sure.
You want rock with energy? Check out midnight oil stand in line live
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait till you see anything from their Last Stand concert in 1983. 🎸🎸
No John didn't want or need to go overseas he had a big following here
Can I suggest you check out Kasey Chambers covering Eminem’s Lose yourself….be prepared ….. it’s a country version that will set you off a little passed halfway thru!
I've got them up there with Led Zeppelin and Metallica. They don't have any bad songs. Check out Wild Thing from The Last Stand concerts. I've subscribed.
If you think Jimmy is good should check out, something is wrong with my baby by Jimmy barnes and John
Yep, you missed out.
