A cheap low flow submersible water pump placed in the bottom of tub with heater helps keep temps steady by constantly moving the heated water around making the entire incubator more efficient. Hope this helps. Mush love. Thanks Willy Myco. We love ya brother.
If you are running a larger tub that could be helpful, but you could also run a 2nd heater which isn't a bad idea anyways as those heaters are pretty unreliable.
Or just get a damn seedling heat mat, a cooler or large commander tote, and put the mat on the bottom, get a couple raised wire baking racks, digital thermometer and/or controller if we are going all f#k!ng complicated....a temp controller saves a ton of trouble js.
Bro I learned from your videos 6 years ago you turned me on to my root bark vender much love bro I promise it hasnt been wasted I had a crop going year round in co even took my old tubs and mix some with personal plants soil had caps coming out the pot 2 months later glad to see you still keepong on
Your Dub Tub idea is great, I'm going to buy the supplies today. Right now I have grain jars all over the place, time to put them in one reliable spot for measurable success! Thank you for your videos as you are a easy teacher to learn from.
This shit works so well. I like to keep my room pretty cool, 68-70 typically, and my tub sits in my closet and stays a solid 80 degrees near the bottom, its about 78 up near the top of the tub. Super fast mycelium growth! Did a grain to grain transfer 2 days ago to a half dozen quart jars, and they're already a quarter of the way colonized, only dropped a large pinch of colonized rice into each jar.
So I use a double tub with the rod water heater and put weight on the top tub so that it is surrounded by water from pressure. I keep it in like a three seasons room porch area will that be enough should I get a heating mat to put over the bottom or top
Or you can get some heating mats for indoor gardening. This is what I use and you can set it at a specific temperature. I use two mats for my tub but I can add more if I wanted. Has its own thermostat and thermometer too. Super cheap and I barely have to check and worry. If you do it Willy's way the heater can burn or melt.... I've done it his way before. It's not as set and forget. It's as easy or hard as you make it for real.
Yep I use a heated mat as well, but mine isnt as nice as yours!!! I jusr have a on/off switch that goes up and down so I have to regulate it with a seperate thermometer. I will be buying a better one VERY soon tho!!! I know its simple but this "dubtub" had my brain spinning when I 1st started!!!
I use a heated mat also. Mine is for a dog and the adjustable temp ranges from 75 to 95, so I just set it and check it every couple days. I have my qt spawn jars in a bag cooler on top of about 1.5 in of micro fiber which is setting on the mat. Temps stay at 73.6.
I've used heating mats before although they didn't have a temp control setting, and they ended up scorching the mycelium. Something about all the heat being spread along the bottom surface of the bag. I've also used the dubtub method with a small aquarium heater and had really nice results. I don't think there is much risk of the heater burning or melting since it's submerged in water. Whatever works is how we should do it :)
@@drewc7935 i made a tray so my jars never touch the matt. Made a huge difference. My mycelium had a really hard time growing when it was on the matt, even at goldilocks temperature. Different strokes for different folks.
What about how to keep the humidity level? I messed up my first batch outside this summer, but the temp and humidity were perfect (we put too much spores in each container). Grain bags can they still breath with the lid on? While inside a tub.. what’s your preference storing your bags while waiting for them to be colonized?🙏🏻❤️🍄🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Question, can I add a dash of bleach to the water in the bottom tub or some other disinfectant to avoid algea and any other contam from making their way onto the main tub with the grain spawn bags and jars?
@@marceloovg1873 not at all. You would need at least a 100 pounds of weight holding it down. Remember you need to push it down enough so the water rises to 3/4 full on the inside. You just push the tote down into the other and put a zip tie through each opening on the top edges of the tubs, connecting the 2 together

First timer here, I was curious about my homes conditions for growing . There’s no way my fiancé will let me turn off the central air conditioner. Any tips for growing in these conditions ?
ive build a box of Styrofoam (Styrodur) and put a reptile heater pad on the insidewall (7W take a look at Aliexpress). This pad comes with a powerdial which ive turned all the way down so the pad just consumes 4 watt. Ive connected the pat to a 24h segmet timer switch and set it to 30min ON and 30min OFF around the clock. With this setup i got nearly constant 23°C (74°F) with a very low powerconsumption and the cost for the heater pad and one Styrodur-sheet combined was under 15€
Thanks for the important info. I’ve heard many different “keep the temperature here” ranges from many different people. 70-75 is something I’ll now do. I’ve been doing 80. While that works for grain, I’ve been having tub contamination issues at 80. So I’ll lower the temp as see if it helps. Is fruiting perfect at 70-75 too?

To make the DubTub more efficient you can use a thermostat instead of a thermometer. If you live in a house with poor insulation your temperatures indoors fluctuate too much to rely on a static temperature. You can plug the heater into the thermostat and it will turn on and off your heatsource as needed. Not only will this save your spawn from extreme heat/cold swings, it will save ylu money so you don’t need to run a 100w heater 24/7.
annemarie Bronakoski no doubt! Always a lil tweak to be made here and there, if you were technologically inclined you could also put computer fans in the mix with digital controllers ran on raspberrypi or something but I know nothing bout all that.

What is good though is you dont particularly need to use the thermostat on the heater in the tub, you could use one on a space heater in that room or a heating mat beneath the entire thing to supplement the heat when temps swing. Hey Willy! I got my dub tub going and already am noticing progress! :) Was wondering though, should I crack the lid to promote GE during incubation? Also, to maintain humidity in the dub tub, do you think it would be a good idea to use those humidity packs?
@@FORMINGSHADOWS so through some reading I couldn’t find an exact answer on having the lid cracked. When I did do it though, I noticed a temperature drop that wasn’t ideal and thankfully fixed it within a few hours. I have a “Michigan basement” like he described so it gets COLD cold down there haha. But for the humidity in the tub, I found just leaving it is fine. Humidity doesn’t matter so much during incubation. I saw condensation on the inside of my bag and was worried, but a little condensation is normal cause the bean generate their own heat. If it’s overly wet in the bag, that could be the result of drastic temp changes either up or down. My solution was to just trust in the aquarium heater and keep the lid sealed. I’m NOT using tubs that have those rubber lining to really seal it though; cheap tubs over here. I will say though, if you’re using bags or even jars, you should consider propping them up on a cookie rack or even anything so that the bottom of the inner tub (the warmest part) doesn’t OVERLY dry out the bottom of your bag and jars.
A cheap low flow submersible water pump placed in the bottom of tub with heater helps keep temps steady by constantly moving the heated water around making the entire incubator more efficient. Hope this helps. Mush love. Thanks Willy Myco. We love ya brother.

@br de Heating mats can be bad too...direct heating can mess up moisture levels and accelerate competitor growth, but yeah don't waste your time and money on this.
I try that but when I fall asleep my heater dries out my jars or gets to warm and contams out
Ok I am learning a lot but I am a bit technical. Maybe it is possible for just to show the progress of making everything example first show the martial then where you bought it then step 1 and so on ... with a short explanation. Norm from Belgium
Yo where u get that mask?
What about the Wavy Cap? Incubating is under 65 to about 50
A little off your game....

amazing video !
Why is nobody using plant warmers? I'm going to do an experiment one tub with a plant warmer underneath and one without
I tried this and the bin on top floated even when I pushed down. There isn't any water on the sides.
Keep up the great work willy this helped me out alot🖖
Willy your the man u got me Into this and inspire me to be as good as you one day rn I'm having a prob a d no1 can give me a answer I'm getting blueish mold on top of my sub very little but I'm getting a huge pinset wtf is going on bro helppppp love from the west coast keep it up also I used manure peatmoss and vermiculite ty bro ur the man
what substrate are you using for pan cyan azteca?
Can you put a mini mono tub with pans in there? I tried the mini mono tub in my closet, everything took off fine but temps where 80° so I put a heater to fruit and my casing dried out at about 40% colonization. Bottom tub had condensation but the top tub was dry.
80 is way to hot buddy plus a heater??!! Keep your fruiting temps at 74 and colonize at 78 otherwise you risk contam
@@cheesus2981 thanks
Hey Willy! I got my dub tub going and already am noticing progress! :)
Was wondering though, should I crack the lid to promote GE during incubation?
Also, to maintain humidity in the dub tub, do you think it would be a good idea to use those humidity packs?
I was thinking that too, did you find an answer mate?
Love the info very educational
Love you .thx
You are the man my man
Beginner here, how do I get bigger flushes/yields?
