Great win but feel for coach Croom, one year removed from SEC coach of the year, he should have kept his job at least one more season.....worked out well with Dan Mullen but still he built something special there and injuries really hurt him in 08

He didn't build something special. His only real achievement was beating Bama twice. He went 3-8, 3-8, 3-9, 8-5, 4-8. His predecessor and successor both had 10 win seasons.

@@BamaRewind Croom changed the culture of that program, mullen benefitted from crooms 4 years

The culture there under Croom's predecessor, Jackie Sherrill, was a winning culture. Sherrill had multiple good seasons and even reached the SEC championship game. Mullen's first season had a losing record because he was having to change the losing culture of the Croom years.

@@BamaRewind that’s false, sherrill reached the SEC championship in 1998, so he had a winning culture then. BUT after that year and a couple other good years he won a combined 8 games over his last 3 seasons. For you to sit here and act as if he had a winning culture his whole time there is quite frankly shocking. He didn’t get fired for nothing, and crook had to rebuild the program from the ground up and took MSU to 8-5 and was named sec coach of the year in 2007, and they were supposed to have an even better year in 2008 but their top 3 players all got hurt and one other was suspended. And he was fired before he could even have a chance to bounce back in 2009.
You acting like he was a bad coach when he took Mississippi state to the top the hard way including winning 2 games against Alabama(one when Saban was there) is just wild. You should watch the sec short Croom, that will provide a better picture.

It isn't shocking at all to say that a coach with a 21-38 overall record was a bad coach. I've seen the Croom documentary and the on-field portions of it are just a litany of excuses and rationalizations. Laughable that you would suggest three losing seasons for Sherrill means it wasn't a winning culture, but one winning season in five years for Croom means that he "took Mississippi State to the top." By that standard, someone like Mike DuBose belongs in the college football hall of fame.
I respect Croom as a player and as a man. But you can't say that his head coaching record was anything less than terrible.
