My absolute favourite hymn by John Rutter, my favourite contemporary composer of Christian music. It brings me to tears every single time.
When the boys in this choir hit that glorious high note towards the end of composition, it's as if angels in heaven are singing!
too high pitched for me. Should've gotten a Tenor.
Sweet, melodic and pure. Rutter is always a joy to listen to and sing. The Anglican musical tradition is something I greatly admire.

The words "and give you peace", repeated four times, was deeply touching.. I am reminded of an old German saint and quoting her as I remember what she said. "The world mocks our joy and scoffs at our love but it envies our peace."

This has been a favorite of mine since I sang it in several choirs throughout my teenage and young adult years. The lyrics came to my mind tonight as I struggle to find peace in a chaotic, suffering world. "And give you peace..."
Ditto. I sang it with a choir years ago. I went to church today and a recording of it was played during communion. I sang it from start to finish then started crying afterwards. Good memories 😊

I used to be in a large choir and when we sang this, I couldn't imagine that people felt closer to God when they listened to it, than I did singing it! Absolutely heavenly!
I sang alto to this song in the national catholic youth choir camp in Minnesota. It was literally the best thing ever; it was the highlight of my summer for sure.

This hymn is a magnificent piece of music put to fabulous words by the great John Rutter.
Before John Rutter it was beautifully arranged in 1900 by Peter Lutkin. For decades it was known as the “Lutkin Amen.”
I am at peace listening to such beautiful hymns in the early hours of a cold clear African night.

This is truly beautiful. I am not religious, but how can anyone not be moved by this wonderful music, and boys with voices like angels. It was played on the entrance to my father's funeral (during the first lockdown, only 10 of us allowed). The men have wonderful voices too of course.
Religion won't get you into heaven. Only Jesus Christ and a personal relationship with him alone can do that. So it's not about religion, it's about salvation.

I am in a church choir and sang (alto) this piece at a wedding earlier this month. This recording is in the original key of Gb major (our choir sang in Eb) although I have sung it on a previous occasion in the original key.

While Growing up as a tiny toddler, my Dad played only The Westminster Abbey Choir from England & King's College Choir till at 10 years old than included Centenary Methodist Church Choir of Suva Fiji, till today, though he taught me to be a Sabbath Keeper. He was the only Senior Cambridge Music Student of Queen Victoria School of Fiji from 1947-1952 where their Exam Papers are marked in England. Below are his beliefs in Classical Hymns;
PART 1:- THE BIBLICAL FACTS OF INSPIRATION OF THE ANNOINTING OF THE PROTESTANT CHURCHE'S CLASSICAL HYMNS🙏🙏🙏. Dad WAS THE CHOIR CONDUCTOR FOR THE FIJI SCHOOL OF MEDICINE METHODIST CHAPEL CHOIR FROM 1953-1959? WHOM the Late Dr. Manoa Masi stated that Dad taught him Music. Christianity is following Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, the triumphant Victor over death, hell and the grave - (where oh death is thy sting, where oh grave is thy victory?), and developing an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, through His Son and by His Holy Spirit.
As we read God's Word, and listen to His Guidance into His Plan for us each day, we become active in the faith, and God uses us for His Glory.
It is, of course, the best life in this world, and Perfect Peace in the next, with all the trimmings. Be an overcomer ...
