    Is it still overheating?

    The R8 is definitely NOT made at the same factory as the M&M's milk chocolates - melts in your mouth, not in your hands ha ha.
    This thing is the opposite!! I would say it is either a bug that Canon has not seen yet - OR - preplanned so a firmware can innocently declare - we fixed it WE FIXED IT!!! Now everybody test it again and give us some more free free video advertising!!!
    Which one it is - I ponder innocently as I think it over - Canon would NEVER NEVER do such a thing, RIGHT??? :) :) :)
    What a wonderful find Justin, thumbs up 👍👍👍

    Time to test out the overheating again with the new firmware dropped today even though the notes has nothing to do with it (lol) maybe just maybe "minor bug fixes and improvements" means deleted fake heat limit

      It will probably do nothing since R8 does not have any processor cooling inside like R6II does. Still worth checking.

      Hey! Have you tried the latest firmware(28/05/24) and see if that has fixed the issue?

    Ok I have ran all of the tests I could think of and this is what I found to overheat the R8. Direct Sunlight, I put another sd card in the slot, tried cold to ambient temperature and ambient to ambient. My conclusion it shows overheating mainly from 2pm-6pm with the heat of the day. I have gone almost two hours of 4k 30 no overheating. I did a stabilization test on and off with the RF 35 and 50mm lenses. So the only other idea is this, Have you turned off the LCD screen after10 minutes while the camera is still on and recording? I have had it on for hours with the HDMI cable using Ecamm Live Pro with no recording internally and no overheating. I have placed the fan in front of the camera blowing air at the base and lens but also toward the battery compartment from an angle and then switched to blowing in the front. Camera is solid and I used extreme situations to test this camera. 4k 50/60 documentation states camera will overheat but you can get the max to 30 minutes of record time. The only problem i am having is with RUclips degrading my video quality of this camera. I have compared this latest Night Time car vlog to the original and the compressed file that I sent up and I can see the difference. I have less stuttering except when hitting a bump in the road. Little auto focus and subject tracking problem now and then but a solid camera. What are your conclusions? Cheers! 😶‍🌫

      Yes, youtube totally mangles footage. They compress it and it makes everything look worse. That's one of the reason I almost always upload in 4k on my main channel (even when the footage is in 1080.) Because the YT system will give it more bandwidth and make 1080 look better than it would've after youtube's compression mangled the 1080 footage.
      Thank you for reporting back.

    Thank you for such good reviews and tests. Tell me, I saw one guy where he says that the R8 saves short videos for a long time. For example, you shoot for 10 seconds, then leave the video and it is saved for about 2 minutes. Does your R8 have this? Or has this problem already been fixed?

    Thanks. I was thinking of the refrigerator but didn't dare to put it there for a test 😂.
    I haven't tested with the heat sink yet.
    I think you have confirmed the warm up theory, but just bring inside I want to see if I can stretch the actual functional record time.

      @@babybackmaniacleftovers Tested now. Nope. It did get a bit warm but not enough to make any difference I think. Video went 24:57 so 22 seconds shorter that the test without. No dice. :-(

    I use R8 for microscopy. It goes for hours connected to a monitor via HDMI capturing live view (and recording) and it has never overheated. I use a dummy battery dr e-18.

    I swear just because its a cheaper camera more of the community doesnt think this is a problem or make a big deal about artificial overheating Canon does. This is literal bullshit, as you have said in a prior video this was intentionally coded into the firmware. It clearly has temp sensors its reading since its not on a timed overheat like the R5 and R6 were but its just intentionally coded to fuck people over and say "well im gonna return it then and get the R6 ii sense its the same but can record longer". SMH

      They aren't changing the way they do business...just changing their tactics to make it less obvious.

      Scummy moves I would agree after all the times they’ve been blatantly caught doing stuff like this you’d think there would be an outrage. I went through the R5 saga myself and was looking into an R8 as B cam and happened across this video. Seems some things don’t change

    Thanks for confirming this “feature” which makes the R8 unreliable as a travel camera…

    • @babybackmaniacleftovers
      @babybackmaniacleftovers  Год назад +1

      no problem...but it works great in the heat if you let it warm up outside before you hit record.

    • @truthseeker6804
      @truthseeker6804 Год назад +1

      hes recording in 60fps. all fullframe cameras under $3k with 4k 60fps would overheat, except panasonic s5ii, s5iix. if youre travelling stick to 24/30fps

    • @24fps81
      @24fps81 Год назад

      That’s a good point. Anyone using the 24-70 2.8 L on the R8? I wonder if they are a good match in term of size and weight.

  • @truthseeker6804
    @truthseeker6804 Год назад +1

    most people would use 4k 24/30fps for long form videos, so this is not a realistic test. a good test nonetheless. canon has to put a high temp mode.

    • @babybackmaniacleftovers
      @babybackmaniacleftovers  Год назад +2

      I've already done the 4k/30 in a previous video so I was just following up here with the 4k/60 to see if it helped. Thanks for watching. And yes, I agree about a high temp mode.

    Man I love Canon, but for things like this I'm moving to Sony. At least they can make the customer happy.

    Found R8 teardown video today and now I can see clearly why R8 overheats so fast - it does not have any processor cooling at all. R6II does have thermal pads.
