I have been watching your videos on and off for years. So much so that I will either always skip that part of the video or If I want to hear what you said during those parts but I have to rewind, turn on closed captioning, and mute the video (plus undo all that after). Would you consider adding a visual and audible warming (could be a specific sound clip or something)?
Okay, the no camera bump thing actually made my jaw drop. I can't believe the amount of stuff they could fit inside this phone, meanwhile other brands keep removing features like headphone jacks because "there is no space". Although I'm not sure I'll upgrade to this in a good while since I have the redmagic 8 pro and, as this test showed, it's really sturdy! I can tell it's gonna last many many years.
@@omaralarbid3205 Really good, it's a great phone for what it costs, the build quality is great, so I do think it's gonna last very long if you take care of it. The only downside I can think of after a year and a half of using it are probably the Redmagic OS not being as good as something like a Samsung or other bigger brands since it doesn't have built in apps like Gallery for example, so you have to use Google Photos or other apps. But it is an Android phone so you can use any app you want and customize how you like it.
It's nice to see what was originally a niche product - a gaming focused device with most other features taking a back seat - becoming more well rounded and incorporating a few features the big players are still shying away from.
I really hope more manufacturers adopt the 'no camera bump'. This makes phones look crazy good. Also, the all screen front makes it look like something from star trek. Very slick.
No bump on the back is nice, but putting the front camera under the screen may degrade the quality of the picture since the light has to penetrate through the AMOLED layer.
Same reason I switched to S24 Ultra from iPhone after using them for 17 years straight. The rounded corner slabs have become boring. I've been far more "excited" over S24 Ultra than any of the last 4-5 iPhones I've owned? It feels like MY phone, not an iPhone I've "rented" from Apple until they release a new one. The customization options are insanely granular, allowing users to customize just about anything within Android. The beauty is that customization is purely optional and by no means required. I was blown away by the options to customize the keyboard alone. My only regret is not switching earlier. 🤦
it's not often when i am impressed by a phone's design, but this right here is perfect. it's futuristic yet not over the top, and beautifully engineered
No camera bump with a fingerprint scanner is quite nice. Apple adopting this tech in 2030-- hilarious! Apple: Yesterday's tech with tomorrow's prices. Great vid. Love the channel!
This is the first time I have been genuinely excited to see a new phone be released. Every other time it's just the same phone with 1 or 2 very minor changes, but this just seems to do everything right! Also, seeing you scrape and scratch the phone crushed my soul, but I'm very happy to actually see how well it handles damage.
Innovative and futuristic idea by Redmagic. It's really fascinating that the company gives us an idea of the near future and definitely deserves remark.
@@Chris.in.taiwanIn my opinion, the RedMagic 9 has a better design compared to the latest ROG 8. The design of the ROG 8 looks cheap to me, especially considering it's pricier than the RedMagic 9.

I can’t wait til under display cameras get perfected as they are my favorite solution to the whole notch/hole punch/Dynamic Island situation. I definitely think pop up cameras are neat too but having more moving parts in a phone, especially like that would probably result in a broken and glitched out front facing camera at some pint, despite the supposed durability. Also, having fans on a phone is a neat way to limit heat, keeping not only the phone cool but the battery. A hot battery = a degraded battery so having the fan is quite nice. Idk if these fans actually help cool down the battery but if they do that’s pretty sweet.
I wonder how much time will it take for other companies to make under the screen front cameras, but still the no camera bump thing was even more amazing for me
The underscreen camera is not anything new, it appeared years ago. problem is that with higher resolution, the camera image quality significantly drops. Most phone companies couldn't bear with it, cuz normal users still cares about that😂
That close-up of the AMOLED screen with the microscope was really cool! Wild to think how much detail we can see when the pixels are that spread out in reality. Awesome video, like always!
"If you're under 40 it's the only real estate left"... ROFL! I love those close pixel shots, really cool showing how this tech actually works and improves. Love the content, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Jerry and Family!
Flat backs, headphone jack, no notch/punchhole and boxy design instead of the common soap holder shape. I think I finally found a worthy opponent to my favorite phone, the Xperia Z Ultra.
Really solid phone. Love to see some common sense in overall innovative design, like no camera bump and headphone jack. Great piece of technology. Keep it up Jerry, love these videos!
That perfect block shape they have is the feature I didn't know I wanted until I saw this. Kudos for Redmagic for continuing to innovate despite the other phone companies becoming more risk-averse when it comes to developments like this.
I'm another one who rarely ever uses the front-facing camera, and this phone is definitely iterating towards my preferences. Very cool to see the progress while keeping a headphone jack and losing the ever-increasing camera bump.
if theese come to mainstream Phones, Imma be absolutely pumped I'd take a worse Selfy Camera over a hole in my screen anytime, but I really don't like the gamery stuff of Red Magic. I hope other Manufacturers are listening
I miss 3.5mm jack being standard. This seems like an interesting choice for a phone. Ill have to look at the sofware support. As I tend to hold onto phones for at least a few years. Unless something happens to it or the upgrade is really justified.
No Bluetooth based audio device that fits in your hand comes close to a longevity and performance of good wired earphones on a phone with a good dac like Lg v40
So missing it is justified. When did holes in phones ever bother anyone at all? That’s the lamest reason I’ve seen for getting rid of headphone jacks 😂
My LG V50 has had it's cameras behind the glass and a smooth bumpless backside since 2019 lol. No clue why camera bumps were ever even a thing since clearly it was already possible to design them with a flat smooth back surface if they wanted to.
Really had me anxious while you were testing such a pricey phone's durability, but as expected of the price, it would most likely survive, I've had my eyes on this phone for quite a while upon release, it was perfect, with its high performance capability and such a sleek design that will surely attract hardcore mobile gamers out there like me! I love how this video also shows how durable the device is against numerous challenges regarding its durability, which furthermore increases my desire for this phone, as always, 10/10 video, keep making more of these, very entertaining and experimental!
What a good looking phone. Finally glad to see no big camera bumps or any "notches" on the front. No curved edge screens that break far too easily and a headphone jack to boot! 80 watt charge port dang.
Under-display camera quality has improved very significantly from what I last remember! Holy hell that camera being usable is definitely a pretty big improvement! Remember the old under-display camera phones where the selfie camera pictures were so soft, they were practically fuzzy!
I really enjoyed this one, im always a bit anxious with the flame test but boy did this Phone hold up to it. Quite impressive to only take damage by the scratch test basically. One thing tho, maybe it would be a good addition to scratch the top pixels to see how scratches affect the selfie camera quality. Even if I wont win one, Im probably getting the phone. Had ZTE for a long time(until i broke em and sit on an S5 now lol) and the Axon 7 was actually one of my absolute favourites.
I absolutely love the idea of hidden front camera. Overall this phone does look nice. What is missing here is some sort of docking station for this phone so it could be used as "desktop", at least in some form. Modern phones do have enough power to be used as such, it would be really nice.
I still use Asus 7 Pro with a flip-able camera module and it is the best solution. No notch or hole in the screen. Main camera, which is always way better than front-facing camera in any phone, acting as a selfie camera. Wide-angle camera is very useful when you want to take a selfie with a large group of people. And flash light is also available. Moreover flip-able module allows to take a panorama photos very quickly and reliable, it scans around in less than 2 seconds. And last, but not least, sometimes I rotate camera module by just 45 degrees to conveniently take a photo of tall buildings or a photo from below. Shame that the concept never became popular and it is completely abandoned now.
Be the no bump guy in a world where everyone is going for double bumps. I mean some phones are like they were trying to build frickin stairs on the back
Think red magic are massive in broadcast quality video cameras if I remember right, they make all the cameras you would get on RUclips channels with a mil subs or more.
The phone looks sleek! When you mentioned 2030 phone and i saw the backside of phone with lines like compartmentalized components, it reminded me of the project Ara :) Thanks for the review with some fun punches :D
I love how this phone looks. I'm such a sucker for squared off phone designs. Fell in love with the (now discontinued) Razer phones 1 & 2, one of the Sony phones, the new S24 Ultra, and now this one.
The jump from the sd gen 2 to 3 in terms of performance is massive At that price range, its really cool to see the headphone jack again. Kind of sad that expandable storage pass the $200 mark are out of the question though.

Ngl, I love the concept of truly bezeless screen and the under panel camera. I hope computer screens can implement that and once and for all remove the issue of never looking the person in the eyes during video conference calls
Definitely looks futuristic, I especially love the lack of camera bump. Even my iPhone 7 has the uncanny ability to collect scratches across the camera whenever I put it down on a rough surface, can't imagine its any better for more the latest phones
Phones look amazing! Cameras behind the glass should be a must have in 2023. I think the quality of selfie cameras will always dip, but I don’t think really really matters for the front. Great video, as always 👍
Those under glass cameras look absolutely wild, though im sure they had to compromise space which could have been used to further improve the picture quality with more depth in the camera module.
I really like the seamless/flat design of it. I think the bump on the flash is to prevent the flash from lighting up the glass for the cameras and causing huge bloom. For the teardown video, could you mention about the ergonomics of holding it? Like does it feel super heavy when holding it one handed, and if the corners are sharp?
That camera under the screen is such a neat idea; I was waiting for the downsides but overall this is just a super solid looking phone. A happy early new year to you as well!
It's poorer photo quality wasn't too huge of a deal, either. It is a front facing camera after all, which is more of a "secondary" camera, anyways, which nobody uses to take "high quality" photos. For the purpose of face recognition, making a quick video call, or making a funny face with a friend, it's perfectly capable.
It will be interesting how long it takes for the more major companies to integrate under screen front facing camera's, and how they will look, but I'm sure you'll cover them for us! Keep up the good work!
Pretty awesome to see the under the screen front camera getting better! I've been wanting a phone like that forever. Had one of the pop up motor ones a few years back but this is so much cleaner and innovative. Thanks for superb vids as usual.

I really don't like camera bumps, so I find this flat back camera module really awesome, and the under the screen front camera is nice and is getting better too.
1:52 I was not ready for the burn.
I have been watching your videos on and off for years. I found them super useful when I'm looking at build quality for a new phone purchase, but I have always hated the sound of scratching the outside of the phones.
I can tell it's gonna last many many years.
no bump because it is 3/4 an inch thick!!
Can I ask how the red magic phone is holding up I wanna get something similar but I’m afraid it might not last long
@@omaralarbid3205 Really good, it's a great phone for what it costs, the build quality is great, so I do think it's gonna last very long if you take care of it. The only downside I can think of after a year and a half of using it are probably the Redmagic OS not being as good as something like a Samsung or other bigger brands since it doesn't have built in apps like Gallery for example, so you have to use Google Photos or other apps. But it is an Android phone so you can use any app you want and customize how you like it.
cant wait to see under display cameras on every flagship phone in the next few years
I don't think you'll be seeing them
@@Potato_Quality7i think we will just look at this small company doing it. Imagine what $1 trillion company like Apple can achieve.
@@Siduch.he was joking.. its under display, so you cant see them..
@@Matthew_MBG thats definitely NOT what he meant lol
@@Potato_Quality7 giggled too hard at this
It's nice to see what was originally a niche product - a gaming focused device with most other features taking a back seat - becoming more well rounded and incorporating a few features the big players are still shying away from.
I feel you should take up a side gig and become a audiobook narrator. Your voice is as soothing as gazing at Tom Selleck’s mustache.
Steve Jobs would back hand Tim Cook if he saw what the iPhone has turned into 🤣
@@billant2But it's also just a selfie camera so many don't expect highest quality from it anyway.
@@Nikelangelo- Ya, but why blur it, I rather see a better selfie pic through a tiny hole.
@@billant2 I think this way it looks nicer. I don't even remember the last time I used the front camera aside from the iris scanner
Totally solid build. Love the flat back and the invisible camera. Excited to see some other manufacturers work this into their phones!!!
Some have.
There is a price in image quality though. I'd much rather have an unimpeded lens.
Chinese phone
That's one ugly phone though.
@@Chris.in.taiwanIn my opinion, the RedMagic 9 has a better design compared to the latest ROG 8. The design of the ROG 8 looks cheap to me, especially considering it's pricier than the RedMagic 9.
@@Chris.in.taiwanyoure relatively alone with that opinion
@@tubemash3772 No he’s right it looks atrocious 😂😂😂
I usually don't like brick phones but this one's design is freaking awesome! I love how the phone resembles like a starship, and it has this like mecha-ish design on its back.
It's one thing that Jerry is top notch technically, but the humor he has makes the videos a lot of fun to watch. Thanks a ton
been a oneplus user for a decade, turned to samsung in the last 2 years, tested a rog 3 a few years back and i'm seriously thinking about getting a redmagic pro in the future... thanks for the extraordinary set of test, and i'll see you around !
Ive had a moving camera for about 4 years now. I've used it for face unlock
I wonder how much time will it take for other companies to make under the screen front cameras, but still the no camera bump thing was even more amazing for me
The underscreen camera is not anything new, it appeared years ago. problem is that with higher resolution, the camera image quality significantly drops. Most phone companies couldn't bear with it, cuz normal users still cares about that😂
It's kinda funny that the company whose first phone had huge lens attachments as a selling point now has the smallest camera bump as a selling point
The flat backs 100% are the way forward for me. And seeing a functional underscreen selfie cam is really cool too!
Flat backs, headphone jack, no notch/punchhole and boxy design instead of the common soap holder shape. I think I finally found a worthy opponent to my favorite phone, the Xperia Z Ultra.
Chinese phones are best
You may forgot to mention the IR-Blaster near the 3.5mm audio port; An even rarer sight indeed.
Wow! been a while since I was actually stunned with the exterior design of a smartphone
How can you not be in love with the Snowfall version??
“Scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at a level 7” Never gets old 3:37
Really solid phone. Love to see some common sense in overall innovative design, like no camera bump and headphone jack. Great piece of technology. Keep it up Jerry, love these videos!
That no camera bump is absolutely wide! Phone is very aesthetically pleasing and a great package.
Very cool to see the progress while keeping a headphone jack and losing the ever-increasing camera bump.
if theese come to mainstream Phones, Imma be absolutely pumped
I'd take a worse Selfy Camera over a hole in my screen anytime, but I really don't like the gamery stuff of Red Magic.
I hope other Manufacturers are listening
redmagic should of used a popup selfie camera instead. much higher photo quality and they look cooler too and would match a gaming phone
I miss 3.5mm jack being standard. This seems like an interesting choice for a phone. Ill have to look at the sofware support. As I tend to hold onto phones for at least a few years. Unless something happens to it or the upgrade is really justified.
Keep missing it then because we dont need more holes on our phones, we need less.
Random person: it's impossible to make a phone look like it's straight out of a video game.
Red magic: hold my kool-aid!
That back design with no bumps is awesome, can't wait to see other manufacturers do it too. Love your vids, Zack.
Chinese make the best phones
Honestly love the flat camera section on the back. My biggest gripe with almost every smart phone I've used in recent years
Under-display camera quality has improved very significantly from what I last remember!
Красивый телефон!
Shame that the concept never became popular and it is completely abandoned now.
couldn't you just use a samsung dex for that?
It's an android phone, it probably supports dex.
Be the no bump guy in a world where everyone is going for double bumps.
I mean some phones are like they were trying to build frickin stairs on the back
I really wasn't expecting innovations like these already, especially from a brand i've never heard of before.
there a sub brand of nubia
Nubia itself a Sub of ZTE
Think red magic are massive in broadcast quality video cameras if I remember right, they make all the cameras you would get on RUclips channels with a mil subs or more.
@@bubblebobblekd no, you're thinking of a different brand named red

The phone looks sleek! When you mentioned 2030 phone and i saw the backside of phone with lines like compartmentalized components, it reminded me of the project Ara :) Thanks for the review with some fun punches :D
It’s awesome to see the quality of under display cameras are getting better. Can’t wait to see more companies adopt and improve on it.
I love how this phone looks. I'm such a sucker for squared off phone designs. Fell in love with the (now discontinued) Razer phones 1 & 2, one of the Sony phones, the new S24 Ultra, and now this one.
Are we finally going full circle on audio jacks? I've missed wearing monitoring headphones on my commutes
do I not understand what bezels are? the black lines around the screen are bezels right?
It's crazy how the hidden camera looks that good as well as the flattened camera on the backside! Having the audio jack is a plus from me.
The jump from the sd gen 2 to 3 in terms of performance is massive
At that price range, its really cool to see the headphone jack again. Kind of sad that expandable storage pass the $200 mark are out of the question though.
Isn't there a 1TB version of the RM9?
Awesome phone , first phone that can defend itself from your burn test 👍🏻 already gave a thumbs up for that , Thanks @jeery for showcasing the phone on your channel will definitely see the teardown video of this phone and i will try my best to have one of these phones with me on that day when you release that teardown video.🙃
yeah, I am waiting for the teardown video to drop as well
@@budgetarms Same.. Guess we'll never see it lol
Ngl, I love the concept of truly bezeless screen and the under panel camera. I hope computer screens can implement that and once and for all remove the issue of never looking the person in the eyes during video conference calls
It's insane how much a simple change can make so much difference toward the overall charm of a phone. Well done Red Magic indeed.
Definitely looks futuristic, I especially love the lack of camera bump. Even my iPhone 7 has the uncanny ability to collect scratches across the camera whenever I put it down on a rough surface, can't imagine its any better for more the latest phones
A headphone jack and a fully flat back were things I was definitely not expecting from this year, awesome to see them!
My god we really are in the future!
The front camera is the scariest shit ever. Gives the word hidden camera a new meaning.
The guy scratching every part as he was explaining and toturing the phone was funny ASF🤣🤣🤣🤣
Having a cooling fan in a phone seems overkill
I really like the seamless/flat design of it. I think the bump on the flash is to prevent the flash from lighting up the glass for the cameras and causing huge bloom.
For the teardown video, could you mention about the ergonomics of holding it? Like does it feel super heavy when holding it one handed, and if the corners are sharp?
Bro you are a genius!
First phone that can defend itself from the burn test. I found that funnier than I probably should have.
Pretty awesome to see the under the screen front camera getting better! I've been wanting a phone like that forever. Had one of the pop up motor ones a few years back but this is so much cleaner and innovative. Thanks for superb vids as usual.
