    Back when I bought my 19 crosstrek once I hit 1000 miles I put on a 2inch lift, 15 inch method 502s, and bfg ko2 tires. At 60,000 miles I put on toyo at3 225/75/15 and I actually got better fuel mileage with the bfg's even though they were a little heavier.

    Followed your guide of their other video and installed the same wheels and tires on my 2019 xtrek MT and they have been working GREAT! Look much better and better handling in snowing days. The only thing tho I have to say is my MPG dropped about 3~5 after throwing on the new tires (from 28~30 on highway to 23~25) 🥲 still pretty good 👍
    I’m also looking into them mud flaps cause the new tires do push out on the sides a little and make it super easy to get dirty.

    The Toyo 3 are amazing!! I have 18” rims and the Toyo’s have the sizes. 3 peak rated and genuinely superior to the stock tires in all ways… especially in the snow! I did a lift kit as well though… which allowed a larger diameter tire (1.5” bigger) and the clearance in Death Valley and the the snow storms of the Sierra were very much appreciated. I have rekgen on my truck, rallycross flaps on the Subaru… both are excellent brands that do their job. The rally flaps are softer than Rek Gen though but work!

    • @swampssa

      Steel bumpers on the crosstrek just isn’t a good idea. This isn’t a body on frame vehicle so the weight plays a huge role. Put those steel bumpers on and try stopping in an emergency situation and see how dangerous it is. Definitely just not a good idea if this is a daily driver or just something that you drive on the road.
      Lockers and LSD are cool but even with those you just can’t turn this vehicle into an off-roading beast. Just buy a 4x4 at that point.
      I had a 2019 and went all out on it. Used to live right down the road from the Rubicon trail and had big plans for the crosstrek. After dropping tons of loot on it I realized that essentially the vehicle will always be limited to what it can do.

    Got a 2021 Crosstrek Sport .. lifted it 2" and put a skid plate on the front .. also went with Toyos but since I have 17" rims I went with the 225/65 17" which gained me 3/4" at the rear pumpkin. I have 12" at the pumpkin wit h the lift. I have a Rugged Ridge roof rack where I keep my Max Trax and shovel. I also live in the car when I'm off roading. I've done 3 trips to Death Valley and one to Moab .. each time the Trek amazes me .. I have another rig also .. a 2001 Ford Explored that's pretty much built for over landing. What did you use the space where you had the spare for? I'm thinking of throwing my spare up on top but can't figure out what I'd gain. 🤠

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  2 года назад

      Wow! Sounds like you have an awesome trek. This is a good question because I’ve been pondering the same thing. I currently keep my spare on the roof but I haven’t figured out what to put in the space where the donut goes. I think a tool kit of some kind could be useful or some camping supplies. I think it would be simple to make some basic dividers for the space to keep it nice and neat. The only issue is if you have stuff in the main cargo area then it becomes a pain to lift the floor to grab whatever you might need. Let me know if you think of something. I am looking at buying a crosstrek, currently have an old 4runner with bfg ko all terrain. I am researching the Subaru because it looks like a great buy. I realize it’s not a 4runner, but I get 15 mpg now. Thank you for great vids.

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  2 года назад +1

      Good question! I put these wheels and tires on the car not too long after getting the car so I hadn’t done a lot of off-roading before the new wheels and tires. However as far as on road handling, I didn’t notice much of a difference. The biggest difference to me was acceleration. Before the Crosstrek I was driving an 02 Tacoma so the handling and overall feel is a world of difference. The Crosstrek might not be as bulletproof as your 4Runner when it comes to off-road but it definitely feels tighter and more agile to drive. The fuel economy is a great bonus too! I wish I had a better answer but I hope it helps anyways.

      Good question. Unfortunately I think the only ones would be the wheels and the roof basket. I think the others that I specifically mentioned in the video might get tricky. There should still be plenty of options for a 2016 though.

    Why doesn't the donut tire work for you? I assumed that your new tires are should be the same diameter as the stock. Can you use the donut in an emergency?

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  2 года назад +1

      Good question! Yes the new tires are the same diameter as the stock ones. However it was explained to me that because Subarus have symmetrical all wheel drive, any differences in the tires will mess with the drive train when run for long periods of time. The other problem is that the donut isn’t meant to be driven over 50mph or so. The last issue is that a lot of tire shops will not stock the Toyo tires in this size so if I were to get a flat then it is unlikely that they will be able to replace the tire right away. The full size spare gives me peace of mind especially on long road trips and helps me avoid having to wait a week for a tire to ship to the shop if I ever were in that situation. I hope this helps!

      I installed it myself. If you wanted to try it yourself, I thought it was pretty straightforward. The instructions were clear and didn’t require any welding or anything super fancy like that. The only things you need are a file and torque wrench. The hardest part was just lifting it into place. Getting a dealer to do it is nice too though!

    Genuine question possibly looking to get a manual 2017 crosstrek and do something very similar to the wheels and tires but should I expect pre-mature wear on the transmission or would it not make that much of a difference over an extended period of time

    • @EliasDelvasto
      @EliasDelvasto  2 года назад

      That’s a good question and it was one of my big concerns when buying the wheels and tires. Anytime you change a car from its factory condition there is always a chance that it will cause added wear on several components. However, since the wheels/tires are about the same weight as stock (maybe slightly lighter) and the diameter hasn’t changed much then hopefully this will reduce the stress. I can’t say that it doesn’t add any wear but hopefully the extent of it is kept at a minimum based on what we pick. I’m no mechanic but that’s my take on it and I hope it helps.

      I haven’t payed super close attention to MPG with the basket and spare but I’m pretty sure it is 28-30. Makes a difference for sure.
