Great video Chad! That engine looks like its pretty darn good shape. If it was me, I'd polish up that crank, resize the rods, punch the block .020" over and find a nice 10:1 piston with a modern ring pack. She'll live a good long and reliable life as a daily driver. 🏁
Thanks. I think that's the general direction I'm gonna go.
Bout to do a fuel pump change on my 73, came to your channel first for it! Now gonna watch and learn how to dismantle a 454 I don’t have lol.
Thanks for hanging out
My dad had an old squarebody back in the day and he had the highway steer tires and big old nobby mud tires on the back... that reminds me of that truck.
As long as I don't high center, it will go about wherever I need to get with it. It does really good in the snow.
Go with new bearings n rings etc. Blast block super clean! 👍
Hey , good to meet you and talk to ya at the track yesterday
It was a good day at the track. Are you the one with the s-10s?
@@SquarebodyStuff yes sir I have the Blazer
Yes sir, I enjoyed hanging out with you guys. Hopefully see you this weekend and maybe at the Tailgate ThrowDown
I am going to be building a new shop when I get to Colorado and when I set it up, I am starting off organized... I like the hardware bin idea. I will be using that instead of tide pod buckets.
I've probably bought a 1000 of them little tubs I use through the years. Perfect size for most projects.
New Forged Pistons, with that steel crank, aluminum heads and that air gap intake. You got yourself a nice performance big block that will handle some Juice when you want to really show out. Overall thats a good one to build.
I think that's the plan, but not gonna spray this one.
Trophies look awesome! 👍
Thanks
I have seen dozens of mid 80s 454s with the rods marked.
I've seen a few also, just most of the time it's obvious that something else has been done so I never really questioned it.
I wish I could make the tailgate throw down... but 5/31 we are signing on our property in Colorado... one of my trips from ny to Colorado I want to try and stop by and meet you. I will have squarebodys stacked on my 3 cat wedge trailer
Heck yeah stop on by
Another great video. I lobe these big blocks.
What to do with it? I guess it really depends on what you want it to do. For a daily driver just refresh it with rings and bearings. Maybe up the compression and cam it for some fun. Cheaper that way and you will still have a great motor.
Lots of suggestions here on punching it out and building a monster but it's your money so do what makes you happy.
Thanks, I'm thinking a nice fun street build.
@@SquarebodyStuff I don't blame you. I'd like to do that to my 74-454. The motor is good but the body needs work first
that good year motor 454 for my 84 chevy truck k10
squarebody
That engine looks pretty good for cylinder wear piston clearance. As long as you can't easily see the rings.
It's in good enough shape to be a good runner, but I think I'm gonna have it machined and do a full build
I'd go with new rings, hone the cylinder walls and install new connecting rod bearings
230HP is rear wheel SAE. On break dyno all these 454's are 330HP&485lbs
I would do a mild build with a good sounding cam.
That's the way I'm leaning
Squeaky sounding mean! 😮
He is definitely starting to sound more like a race truck.
Do it right bro. I would want reassurances in a full rebuild. Instead of hoping it lasts a long yime with yhe old part. Even if i had to wait a lil bit yo afford a full rebuild i would. Nothing like having a old truck that can go anywhere without worry. Id also like a full video series of the rebuild. Id highly enjoy it and give me more insight on rebuilding.
Sorry for fat fingering the message good ole mobile phone
No worries. At first I wasn't gonna do a full build series on it since I already done that on the 339. But I think it would be worth my time to show the build process again on something different.
the way I see the whole Speedmaster debacle is this, What company hasn't stolen someone's design, IE modern head companies steal GM's Fast burn Chamber design due to its Superior design For burning efficiency and power, Summit racing itself sells unbranded "Stolen" designs in its Intakes, Carburetors, and Odds-and-ends, the difference in being caught is handing it to the WRONG Chinese manufacturer who accidentally casts/CNC's the name into the product, which is a stupid mistake.
if Speedmaster should be discontinued from mass retail stores so should be House brand's, Summit Racing, Jegs, and Speedway, AMs racing and such...But this is my opinion on the matter and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
but minus all that the big block is going to be an awesome build, and as per usual amazing video chad! i hopfully will be able to make it to the Event either this year or next if you do it again.
Time and money makes all my decisions... I always do the most I can with money I have.
Same here.
eldabrock 🤣
I'm in two minds, I'd like to see the budget build, but since its stripped all the way down might as well get the machining done
I feel the same way.
@@SquarebodyStuffnot sure what it’s like in the US, but here in Australia those old style Moroso valve covers are worth good money
Not sure of the value, but there cool.
Why don't you do a compression test first, It may be just fine.
I was replacing the heads anyway. So I didn't worry about that. If it was just gonna be dropped in as is, that's what I would have done.
Have u think about turn 454 to 496 with 60 over...
Not for this one. A stroker crank is not in the budget right now.
Build ol Creampuff something nice that's gonna last. Something y'all can get many miles and memories with ..
thats what I'm thinkin
