Gavin Harrison on the kit is just sublime. One of the truly great contemporary drummers of our time.
Gavin is an absolute monster. You should watch his performance of "Pick Up the Pieces".
A new fan? I fell in love in 2004-05 and have never looked back...I still listen to alot of stuff...but SW is the man. Also you are witnessing one of the best drummers of our time.
The fact theyve been around since 2004, how am i just now hearing about them
Welcome to the world of Steven Wilson my friend. He is by far one of the best musician/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/composer I have come across since the late 90s and that respectively makes me late to the SW party as he's been going since the late 80s/early 90s. Porcupine Tree is most probably his most respected incarnation but I am just as hypnotised by his solo stuff and other projects namely Storm Corrosion, No- man, Blackfield, IEM, Bass Communion and a few other smaller known projects. I am biased but I believe him to be excellent in whatever he puts his hand to in a variety of different musical genres whether they be many varieties of rock styles (progressive, psychedelic, heavy, etc), pop, electronics, acoustic, ambient, etc. you name it. I'm quite certain that if anyone asked him to do a song in a genre he hasn't covered he most probably would excel there too. He has the Midas touch when it comes to music. You are lucky to be experiencing this for the first time, it is a rabbit hole that could take up a whole new channel for you by all his different embodiments. Good hunting Sohum.
yep. agreed...SW is....unreal. We love him for his talents.
Check out ‘Arriving somewhere but not here’ and ‘Hatesong’ both live from Chicago for more PT genius. Also check out Steven Wilsons solo work which is no less impressive.
Seconded! Both are fantastic choices!
One of the best prog rock bands EVER! Their song Arriving Somewhere but not Here. And Way out of Here are amazing! It you want an intense song of theirs watch the video of the song called The Hate Song. Crazy drumming!! Love your reactions to music. YOU ARE A TRUE LOVER AND APPRECIATER OF MUSIC!
Steven Wilson is one of the greatest singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist-producers in the history of rock.
It's wonderful to see that there are still people out there who are not yet familiar with Porcupine Tree. I love watching them having their mind blown. :)
This is easily one of the great prog epics of all time. Up there with Opeth's Blackwater Park and Dream Theater's Octavarium.
more Porcupine Tree PLEASE! 🙏
Watch the live videos...they are as great live as on studio tracks!
Astonishing! and, this track gets better every time you listen. Can't go wrong with more PT...
Best band since Pink Floyd.
These guys are your bands favorite band. The band that hardly anyone has ever heard of. Good luck with this rabbit hole. It’s deeper than almost anything. You should do way out of here live next.
I enjoyed your reaction to this very much. You hear this music in a similar way that I hear it. It's an incredible performance of an amazing song - so evocative and intense. And that cathartic, dreamy conclusion is like a balm on one hand, but there is also a feeling of loss there. The band is excellent - Gavin Harrison, the drummer is absolutely magnificent.
I subscribed to see you go down the PT rabbit hole. An amazing surprise around every turn. Crossing the generations, it's my whole family's favorite band. Simply one of the true best bands you never heard of. Later in in this solo work he attracted the best musicians. I'm thinking of Marco and Guthrie to name a couple. You SW aficionados know what I'm talking about.
11:50 - And scary thing is that this song (and album) was made in 2007. Yes, Facebook and such were a thing back then, but not as much as they are now.
I miss the late 90's / early 2K's when there really was no "Social" media. :P
Nice reaction! Really liked it, I'll give you some more PT songs to react (all Live versions):
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here - Great atmosphere, lyrics and guitar subtleties
Cheating the Polygraph - Amazing drumming and atmosphere
Hatesong - lots of soloing in odd time

"Oh, that's nice," I said, 40 seconds in. Do I wait 30 mins to comment? No, I trust the channel. And I am also musically hooked. Let's go!!
Thank you Gord.
I was right, Sohum was right, Gord was right. I am currently on the band's website trying not to buy their most recent album on cassette and castigating myself for missing their '22 tour. These guys sound like Alice in Chains' *and* Tool's Daddy and I had no idea. How is the world so cool sometimes?
Are you as equally mindblown as I
@@Sohum beyond. I fairly recently learned the magic of well mixed professionally shot live music. I hated listening to live audio but actually seeing humans creating these sounds in real time is now my favorite. Or was. I found myself closing my eyes and just listening to this performance. My brain could not fully process what my ears were relaying if any other senses were competing. I'm actually a bit nervous to find out what they sound like in full studio mode.
Great reaction to one of my all-time favorite performances! Nice reference to "Eternal Sunshine..." I never thought of it before, but you're right, that part of the song does kind of conjure up memories of that scene.
If you want to see the ultimate jam, where everyone gets a chance to REALLY shine, check out their live version of "Hatesong." You won't be disappointed!
Your commentary was very insightful. Thank you.
You're very welcome
Maybe the greatest song ever lmao :D Porcupine Tree is amazing, their lead singer Steven Wilson is maybe the most influencial figure in prog world for 20 years, both as a song-writer and producer. Him and Opeth's singer Mikael has influenced each other a lot, participated in their respective projects.
Arriving somewhere but not here is my next suggestion but you can't go wrong with any track from their catalog. Such an amazing band :)
Oh and Gavin Harrison (their drummer) is beyond extraordinary, definetely one of the best ever.
yeah this one really blew my mind, i appreciate your comment :)
gotta be the most genuine reaction channel ever just found you, props to u subbed, also thanks for reacting to my favourite song!
Wow, thanks so much that means a lot
Was just watching your Karnivool reactions the other day and thinking you'd love Porcupine Tree.
worlds colliding :D
I've liked PT for decades, but only just discovering Karnivool and I'm loving them. So much good music around.
On the studio recording it was Rush’s Alex Lifeson providing the tasty solo. The guitarist on tour sounded great as well but I do prefer Alex’s solo a little better. I think Alex addded a little more emotional feel. Great song all in all!
You have to react to Opeth, windowpane for a mellower sound and also that song is co produced and has backing vocals done by porcupine tree's steven wilson. Reverie/Harlequin forest is also great and heavier.
Sohum, check out Trains and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Time Flies, and Lips of Ashes.
Enjoyed the react, would love to see more!
If you would like some recommendations:
Opeth - Ghost of Perdition (Live at Red Rocks) (give it some time and listen to the song as a whole)
Stephen Wilson - Routine
Riverside - New Generation Slave
Porcupine Tree - Buying New Soul
Nice reacion, man. You deserve more views
