I dont understand why RUclips algoritm never thought you were interesting for me until very recently 😂 after 2 years of watching photography reviews and tutorials online, your channel is my new favourite thing. Your pictures are great and the way you explain things could not be better. Cheers from Hong Kong!
I've been thinking about this lens and borrowed one form my friend before I pull the trigger. And I never thought there will be a swirly bokeh on this modern lens. great review bro!
The 35mm focal length is my personal favorite for documentary and street photography. For my Leica M6, when I need something wider than my 35mm f/1.4, I use a 21mm f/1.4. The 28mm focal length is my personal favorite for landscape photography. However, I prefer medium format for landscapes.
Hey nice work. I actually have the new 35 f2 Ultron v2 and naturally it seems to share all of the same characteristics to the 28. I'll probably make a review of the 35 in few months. Also did you notice your focusing ring being a bit stiff out of the box? It took me some time to work mine in before it became smoother. Now it's fine. But if I leave it un-used for a few weeks it becomes stiffer again. I think it has something to do with the type of oil they used and the brass construction? Either way, it's a thing to mention that it does take a bit of time to play with before it's all primed up. Kinda like foreplay. 🍷
I bought this one to see if I should sell my 35 cron asph v2 and keep that instead because of the BP on brass, price, and small form factor....sadly the stiff manual focus throw changed my mind despite how much I liked it
@@sezoism Oh interesting. Did you test much image quality wise between it and the Cron? I was thinking to get the Cron v2 but went for the Ultron instead. Not so much if any comparisons out there between the two..
@@AlexOnStreets well it's the asph v2, so I knew image quality wise it wasn't gonna be beat...but for 3 times the price I've seen enough comparisons to know the drawbacks:)
@@AlexOnStreets I have the V1 cron, which should be optically the same as V2, and it’s such an average lens! It’s crazy how meh it is. I got a 28 cron v1, and it’s so much better! Better built, sharper, more resolution, damn maybe even nicer bokeh…35 cron is going for sale
Thx for the video! So I’m gonna stick to my 28 Elmarit Asph. Little heavy vignetting on the ultron for my taste. If I need f2 I got the 35 Summicron Asph V2 too.
Yeah, I used to use voigtlander thought it was good. Not after I borrow my friend 35mm Summaron f2.8 I totally convince and switch all my lens to Leica. I have summaron m 28mm f5.6 n summicron-m 50mm. They're pricier but definitely worth the price
I'm currently building my second Leica M setup after leaving the first one behind in about 2005. So I'm building on experience with Leica-lenses and so far I have 2/50/planar, 2/35 Ultron and 2,8/28 in my setup. Since then non-Leica lenses for M really made a leap forward and current prices for even older Leica-designs have gone crazy. They are still good but as of today you have to buy the most recent Leica lenses to really pull ahead opticallly of the latest from Cosina (Voigtländer/Zeiss).
Just copped a Nikon 28mm 2.8 series e for my f3. Found it during my family trip at a local camera store and I’m hype to get back home and try it out. I’m use to 35mm appreciate the insight on shooting a wider lens
My dude!! First off you look well rested and it shows in all your latest vids. So fresh my manThe music is on point. I'm a huge 35mm guy and I'm digging the 28mm focal length
Just bought this lens, waiting for it to arrive! 28mm has been my all time favorite focal length for ever. I made the mistake of getting a 35mm Nokton Classic f1.4 SC but then got used to it. I have a love hate relationship with that lense. I'm super excited to finally be waiting on my dream 28mm setup. I love the way the 28mm Color Skopar renders on my DSLR so I have great expectations for the Ultron. Great review! And I don't mind the vignetting at all, actually like the amount that shows on your sample photos.
Finally a review on this! Was waiting on the 35mm when I purchased it before (returned it). However now I'm considering this 28mm variant because my main is a 35mm cron asph v2 just like yours, so a cheaper 28mm makes more sense since it isn't my main. The one thing I disliked on the 35mm variant of the ultron v2 was the focus throw stiffness. Additionally, I would say that 28mm is also a great option when traveling and getting a lot of landscape in the photo, 35mm for more personal street work so you don't have to get so close into people's faces (imo)!
I think u can think about it this way. If u want 35mm on 28mm u just need to step 1m closer to your subject. But there are situation that u can't step backward for a 28mm look because the environment isn't available.
voigtlander lenses are always a good temporary choice if you can't afford a leica lens immediately, but needs a extra focal length to use. But i guess Artisan 7 are much cheaper too, haven't really used them to see if they are worth it. If money's not the problem, keep things to leica lol. for me personally, 35mm is simply wide enough for me, and the voigtlander nokton classic v2 is actually much smaller than the 28mm ultron (if you ever want to pocket the m6). But for my 0.85x magnification, 28mm will need a viewfinder lol. But the sharpness does look great tho.
7Artisans is pretty underrated. The only difficult part is the calibration (but once that's done, it's pretty solid). I used a 7Artisans 35mm for a really long time, and I haven't really been disappointed at all. The Nokton 35mm is SHORT and it looks SOOOO pretty!
Thanks for the video. 👌 Yes, a 28mm is at the top of my 'next lens' shopping list. I have settled on the Leica Elmarit-M 1:2.8/28mm asph. It shares the excellent out-of-focus rendering of the Summarit-M 1:2.4/75mm, which I bought while visiting Leitz Park in 2018. .. among other qualities, for me, the size of the Elmarit-M 28mm makes it the winner of the 28mm race. 🥰 .(The Elmar 5.6 is of no interest)
Yeah, I have that lens as well, it partners well with a 50mm. It's sharp and vignettes less dramatically than the Ultron. The 28mm summicron tempts me, but it's a bigger and heavier lens. The Elmarit just makes sense for a lot of things.
The Zeiss Biogon would be pretty similar to this if not a tad sharper. Zeiss glass is always more on the clinical sharpness side minus character. The Elmarit ASPH would also look similar if not more beautiful in color rendition (highly subjective)
I much prefer your review than the one from the other guy you've mentioned. Good Job....and since you asked, YES, cut that thing growing in your face....

Why do most youtubers say something along the lines of "Hey everyone (or hey guys) welcome back to my channel..." What if this is the first time I've ever landed on a channel? How can I be welcomed back to a channel I've never before visited? Why does there need to be any greeting at all? And then, after the 'welcome back' moment, why does there need to be a five minute explanation on what the video is going to be about? This isn't about your video specifically. Just an observational and broad question on why almost all RUclipsr videos sound exactly like every other RUclipsr Video? "Hey Guys and welcome back to my channel and in today's video I'm gonna be talking about the history of rhubarb. Coding the lens as a 28mm summicrom asph should easily sort out most of the vignetting.
Yes that's true, on digital Leicas you can also select the lens profile in the menu

Amazing video, im deciding on this lens vs a 35mm. How do you find composing with 28 on the 0.72x VF?
I hate vignetting too and I clearly see that Cron is a better option in that case. Cron will also give a smoother bokeh.
