i like that you always keep us on our toes with the Two Princetons gag. sometimes you let the midi file run for thirty seconds, sometimes it's over in three seconds, you can never tell!
The Wavecrush seems the same as the Hotone Crush. I like the idea of it, but always find that the background frequency gets a bit irritating in practice. The Hotone Harmony Octaver does octave up, chorus (detune) and tracks chords/multiple notes, and I'd definitely recommend that if you can find one at a good price.
I remember when the Crush came out. I was dying to get one but never got around to it. Now it's almost impossible to find. This might have to do in it's place!
To understand the bit crusher, imagine the frequency wave of your music being turned into a stepped bitmap looking shape, with bigger steps as you reduce bits? I have a ring mod and a dirt filter with a weird ring moddy thing to it, and I can definitely tell the difference between all three by ear 🌽
"God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs. God creates Man, Man destroys God. Man crushes bits, bits crush Man...Woman inherits the earth." That's the line, right?
Ring Mod - Bit Crushers and PLL’s are like salty effects, you don’t really want too much ring mod. Use the BitCrusher AS the fuzz, try the bit crusher in front of the octaver.
That Octaver turns the affordaboard into a doom board from space. It sounds duper fun. And I've always enjoyed the affordaboard series. I've bought 3 pedals featured on this series, the Azor Delay, Dolamo D-8 OD and Caline Snakebite.

you can get good tone using fuzz before the bit crusher. The fuzz needs to be a low gain fuzz or set on mid to low. then bit rate has to be on 16 bit or higher. So for petal just have bit rate on max setting. then just play power chords and start with sample rate on high and then turn it down until you hit sweet spot. You get brighter and more metallic guitar tone. You can just listen to my chip punk songs for guitar tone using a bitcrusher.
I have some of these same effects on my super old Zoom PS02. I have zero use for tones like that since it sucks for chording. I only have one riff I did 20 years ago using the Octave effect. Never used it again for anything else. My Ric gets bass heavy since it's a short scale. If I switch to the bass side of the Octave effect, it sounds just like a Ric bass.
Hey Ryan, just a nerdy info, that musiclily fuzz seems to be a copy of a behringer super fuzz/boss hyper fuzz which are a copy of the highly regarded honey/shin-ei/univox super fuzz. They have this two modes, one being a octave fuzz and another a high mid fuzz.
Some folk aren't going to like this. But of all the versions, including the Boss and JHS clones of the Superfuzz, the best is the Behringer? It has the three position tone switch giving a great boost setting.
That bit crusher pedal - you really have to work hard to find usable tones out of it, but you did find a few. I'm not sure I'd want one in my chain just because I'm lazy and wouldn't want to have to fiddle around to find the tones; I'm more a set-and-forget guy. The octave pedal would be more useful, especially if you're a bass player and want to double-up your sound. That's a lot more practical, especially if you're a Bass VI player; you can nail those classic country and rockabilly lines by letting the pedal be the upright bass sound while you tic-tac away.
I dont know if youve ever thought about it Ryan, but you can change the jewel light on your fender Princetons really easy. I did on my custom vibrolux reverb. Hey Ryan, very curious if you know about any(more) Afford-A-Board pedal centered around glitches? I can recommend the Rowin Octpus, as a budget poly octave pedal, doing both 2 octaves down, 2 up, or 1 down and 1 up simultaneously, with a dry blend. By the way, cool shirt!
Been a serious addict of your show for years now. Curious to see how this Bit Crusher works as I am in the market for another bit crusher. I have the Hotone Skyline one which is amazing. Sadly, it seems to be out of production. I could use 3! After listening I think both pedals are very interesting for the price point. Curious about Octave pedals, are they simply a low pass filter? The crush circuit is likely the same as other low cost bit crushers. A lot of these pedals are simply OEM being produced in different cases and colors by one factory in china for different companies. Guess I am off to purchase a bit crusher.
Wow, well that was the worst demo of a bitcrusher i have ever seen. try setting the bit and crush to 1/4 to 1/3rd - about 7-12 bits and 8-32kHz would be the goal. you spent almost the entire time at 5-6 bits and/or under 1kHz

the bitcrusher by itself isn't loud enough to fulfill the fuzz roll, you have to have a clean boost in front of it slamming into it.
