RUclips has way too much of 5 thousand dollar, way over-the-top equipment reviews many will never consider. Thanks for giving attention to the cheapos.
I like how he has a tele with humbuckers and a Flying V with single coils
😂
And he tests a crunch pedal with Chet Atkins guitar! WTF? Hahab
yes, very weird
Do you mean the red one ok the bottom? I don't have a clue what that is, it's so tall 🤣
That is the snobbiest comment in existence.
Can't really recommend the US Dream pedal. After using it for the first time, I gained a hundred pounds and thousands of dollars in student loan debt.
And then I died from innadequate healthcare.
As a slightly over weight American I found that hysterical.
Lol
Harsh, but well...
Fuck, you win the comments section.
We have the usual whiners. Who cares if they’re cheep? There’s a million beginners that can’t afford expensive gear. Until they can, it’s something they can use to drive the neighbors nuts👍
30+years and I still look at the $$$ first. It took me 10 years to realize the old saying "Whats good for the Goose" doesn't mean S--T to a Gander...Me and a few buds got together 1 night every one hooked up there best an dialed em in, then everyone swapped... The verdict...WE ALL SOUNDED LIKE POOPOO!!!
Butler Crow Very true. There’s also a lot of advanced players who don’t have a lot of money like myself who really appreciate affordable gear
I would have loved $20 pedals in the 1980's when my local shops only had the top 4 Boss pedals for sale, all of them $100 or more.
I bought some of them; so far, I like them. They're better than the FAB pedals I'm replacing. The Crunch sounds like the FAB metal but with less treble and more pleasing midrange, the US Dream has a sound all its own (more mids and less treble than the FAB metal; more cream and less crunch), the chorus is more crisp than the FAB chorus, and I'm just waiting on the analog delay to compare it to the FAB echo. The Dream has a heavy sound when dimed; a bit noisy, but monstrous. They're all pretty pleasing to the ears; it's a nice break from the ear-bleed and hearing fatigue I was getting from the FAB pedals. I look forward to seeing what kind of recorded sound I can get out of them.
An expensive guitar won't make you a better player lol
50 years from now cork-sniffers will be spending 8 grand for a genuine first gen Kmise US Dream with the original plastic knob
true and sad
sokol358 Sad but true
Hahahlolol good one!!!
And I’ll be the one to sell em
Catch me stocking up on the cuvave flangers 😳😳😳
What a time to be alive, affordable pedals for everyone!
I've been out of the game for a while now, but I'm pretty sure if these pedals were on sale in a U.K guitar store they wouldn't be the equivalent of $20, more likely to be around the £40 mark ($80).
You yanks have been paying well under for all kinds of Stuff for decades while the U.K has always been rip off Britain.
@@robertmcmillan3638 they are less than £20 here in the UK ,and even listed on E-bay with UK sellers so not hard to find.
www.ebaystores.co.uk/lotmusic
@@robertmcmillan3638 bro, it's not our fault that your political leaders suck.
@@Evilroco I said if they were to be sold in a UK "guitar store", not Amazon.
This is why Amazon is destroying retail.
Also, if something is getting sold on eBay then it's probably second hand.
Things like this bring me back to a really cool science experiment done based around violins. A Stradivarius violin is a violin made by a member of the Stradivarius family. For years experts claimed they had unmatched sound and scientists couldnt figure out why. So they decided to do a blind test by having dozens of experts listen to violins blindly and they chose which one sounded best. Very few of the experts blindly chose the Stradivarius violins. This resulted in many more experiments that proved we hear things differently based on our existing opinion of that thing. people tend to be more moved by a violins sound when they know it was crafted by a legendary craftsman but when they have no clue what violin it is they hear it differently. I feel like if some of these cheap pedals were played in a blind test next to high quality ones they would fare better than most people would give credit for. Im a budget oriented guy. I grew up poor and now i take care of my parents in their failing health. Cheap things like this mean the world to me and knowing that there are fairly quality budget options makes me feel good.
I told my parents I was phaser curious back in ‘97 but I grew out of it after college.
Now your ex says you couldn't face her.
That's odd, I thought you had more of a Univibe to you.
TheWarmotor underrated comment
I like that you are willing to review $20 pedals in one vid and then much more expensive gear in other vids. It's actually very helpful to me. Not all gear is created the same, and not all price tags are indicative of their sound.
A lot of people are saying they sound okay for beginners but honestly I really love the sound of that crunch distortion sounds amazing imo idk why people are selling it short
sounds dope in its own way
@@undonesweater9112 first one i got love it to be honest 😅🤙☘😎
Dont worry what others think. If it is the right one for you is all that matters. Rock on and take care!
Tbh you could put these pedals up against pedals 20x the price and most people will never know the difference
The crunch dist. sounds as good as my Boss DS-1.
First partscaster I built, I put a set of $14 Kmise humbuckers in. They were fine (not fantastic, just fine). I would categorize Kmise as "excellent value for the price" for sure.
For $100 you get 5
OK-ish/Fine pedals. I would definitely recommend these for a beginner player on a budget. They can learn how to dile in a pedal and find the sounds they like and later down the road they can invest in better pedals.
I have the us dream one (I've upgraded now) and thats the only one I wouldn't recommend lol
Agreed! These are probably all clones of more expensive pedals anyway. Same circuit, cheaper manufacturing process!
The only downside of cheap pedals are the build quality, resale value and the collectability. Tonally, the circuits has been done a thousand times, no big mystery there.
@@yes-kq1ve why would you not recomend it?
@Will Janke it's just not great by its self, I use it more of noise gate now. But its still not bad for a £20 pedal tbh. Now I've got used to what actually sounds good its genuinely not too bad if you already have a decent sound
I love how the first two pedals perfectly matched your t shirt!
And the beard got matched by the phaser :D
The words on his shirt matches with the U.S. dream
The US dream thing sounded better to my ears than the rat one.
I recently found out that the joyo tremolo pedal, has two internal adjustable mini trim pots. One to adjustment the volume and one to adjust the wave shape. Being as the kimise is a rebranded joyo pedal I was wondering in the kimise tremolo has the same two trim pots.
I recently took the Kmise Tremolo apart looking for a trim pot but I didn’t find one.
Hey, I mean at least they spelled things right on the distortion. I have a mini fuzz that says "Bustain".
Chadwick Is Existent I died laughing when I read this!

6-Cycle, you do you, bud. We're all watching for a reason and I appreciate the time you put in.
Hey Ryan,
I never really thought of it until this demo; I found it interesting when you combined the tremolo and distortion it gave a Fuzz-type tone. Really cool!!!
This was really useful to me - thanks for taking the time to post it!
Accidentally found your channel because I too stumbled across these cheap pedals and love it! Nice work, definitely earned a sub.
Love the phaser, hell they all sound decent. Great video man you’ve earned a sub.
I would have been happy with literally any of these when I started playing 16 years ago. Much happier than the over priced DigiTech gear that was available at the time for the cheap newbie. Honestly, I have a great phaser pedal that broke on me that cost 200 bucks, I would have been way happier with this phaser for 20 bucks and having it break.
I make this general comment *all the time*. I wish the stuff was available 20 years ago. Cheap guitars are cheaper and better, pedals are cheaper and better (and weirder!). These little bastards don’t know how well they have it.
And they have you tube reviewers to help them decide what to get. When I was a youngster I sometimes bought stuff like this through mail order from ads in magazines and got what I got
A couple of those sound pretty good, thanks for the demo man 🤩
Thanks for doing this video. Trying to build a simple board that can get me the basics without breaking the bank and build in quality from there. This helps a lot. Also saw a similar review at Guns n Guitars. As my tone-taste grows/changes, becomes more refined, it then becomes a simple matter of changing out the components over time. 👍👍
This is actually one of the most informative videos on pedals I've seen in a long time. I used to play with loads of pedals. Then I dropped them all, and gigged totally pedal free. For years. Suddenly, I find myself "pedal curious" to paraphrase your awesome comment regarding phasers. I watched this about 3 times and then I went ahead and ordered all of them, because, well...20 bucks! They all sound really good, IMHO. Oh, and regarding the nasty fellow who said that outlandish and crazy thing about R. Williams and glass in hamburgers, he's got issues. I think your videos are way funny in a really good way! Cheers man!
I got a Moen "shaky jimi" univibe for $30 on Amazon. It hasn't left my board since I got it. Nice thick, lush vibe, and a usable chorus mode. No volume drop when engaged. Best $30 I have ever spent!
bought 2 pedals on this vid. thanks for the recommendations. bout to start my first pedal board on the cheap!
I love looking at the massive collection of guitars
The US Dream is a Suhr Riot clone. Mosky has one too, it's exactly the same circuit.
Donner Morpher as well..
I've got a kmise phaser. It's great. Tried a TC Electronic Blood Moon and it was way louder with the effect on to the point of being not usable, and a belcat phaser that popped badly. Neither was useable live, the kmise is. It does one thing very well.
ordered the phaser as I was watching this video, it looks like this brand does absolutely every bit of guitar gear and part under the sun!
Thank you for reviewing these!
I never heard of these thanks for bringing them to me. These things are actually pretty good sounding. For $20? That's DYNAMITE!! I want a whole box of these things.😎 ok well maybe a couple 🙂👍
Lol “phaser curious” .. I don’t know why I laughed so hard . Love your channel .
Great reviews and comments on these pedals! I’d love to see you do a side by side comparison of the cheap vs expensive pedals
Excellent review… one of the best pedal reviews I’ve seen on RUclips. You spent a lot of time trying to make the US Dream sound good. ✅
13:52 Hello Alex : )
I've bought 3 pairs of Kmise zebra black/cream humbuckers on amazon. They're 14$ after tax. They have all been very nice sounding sets. I highly recommend them to anyone needing pickups on a budget.
For my cheap pedal fix I went with the SonicCake twiggy blues, Ive enjoyed the 4 in 1 easy to use form factor. Compressor, Od, Delay and Reverb for > 100 dollars.
I appreciate your time, well done!
Man, YOU really have all the fun !
I love mini pedals, especially Donner pedals.
Agreed. The Boost Killer is a winner at any price. I think I’ve bought 4 of them.
I have the Donner giant metal, great sound for few bucks
I have Donner, Rowin, Mosky, Nux, Azur and Kokko mini pedals. They all work very well and I have them on a mini board when I play in small venues or just doing a short set and don’t have to lug my big Gator board.
i use the donner morpher distortion and the yellow fall delay. genuinely some of favourite pedals, regardless of price
Agreed. I made a small grab-it-and-go pedalboard with all Donners. Killer first what it does (backpack sized go rig)
That chorus was incredible....
I really like your pedal videos. Getting to see how they sound alone and how they work together is a great thing. I am sold on at least three together. And with an inexpensive guitar too. I will be using mine with a 338 Fire Fly Guitar.
Really, really insightful review buddy..very helpful indeed!
Thanks!
I just bought a Joyo Us Dream and it's easily one of the best distortions I've played. Get one now, folks!
60 C dont sweat this guy. Your doing what we dream of. Great vid. Funny at times, if your wanting to phaser experiment, put on a condom and cough up $20. The backwards vol and gain. I think your examples and info are spot on. When i first started buying pedals it was a big choice and usually took all i had. Back in the early 80's. For $20 a pop you cant go wrong. I might get all these just to have around for what you never know. Great vid man keep on rockin.
Fine is definitely good enough for me. Thanks for this interesting video and the opportunity to check out these at your expense.
Great review! I’m getting 2 of these now
Ive been playing this phaser (well, the same one, but under a different brant name - SAPHUE) and well, it's my first phaser pedal (decided to try a phaser, not being like super excited) and I need to say that I can't stop playing it. Great quality for the value. And also, I can't imagine how I made it thorough all the years without a phaser pedal
I got the Saphue phaser and tremolo, they were $15 each from aliexpress. Phaser is pretty great, Trem is ok, pretty choppy though. I'm used to the additional control and flexibility I have with my Boss TR-2
Love the Teisco shirt.
Cruch distortion knobs , finally makes sense dude . Thank you 😅☘🙏💜
Phase curious has just become my new favourite phrase!
So is no one gonna talk about how the first two pedals he opened match his shirt lol
Thanks for making this. Found these on amazon the other week and was wondering what they sounded like, the descriptions are always pretty vague with these cheapo ones. I guess next week they’ll be $40
I just got done buying some of these pedals for around 10 bucks each.
You are the best Ryan ! For Kokko compressor and a dd-500 the cheapest and most expensive pedal I’ve ever got in one day.
response is good to my ears, i might try the delay pedal, as i need a delay pedal. thanks for the video.
That crunch distortion for $20 bucks sounds pretty good, but could benefit from an eq pedal. I laughed hard when you discovered the Volume/Gain mismatch.
I'd like to see some of the valetron and donner flying type things
Thanks a ton for posting this review of "cheap" pedals. I wound up purchasing the Saphue versions Ultimate Drive, Analog Chorus, Digital Delay and Vintage Phase. Man, they reinvigorated my playing! Not that I play any better, but all the sound combinations keep me more interested in picking up the guitar and exploring new dimensions of sound! My only pedal, a 1970's MXR (script) Dyna Comp has been retired.
Great video dude, hope you are staying safe! 👍
14:27 sounds like Type O Negative. For $40. Lol dope.
That's exactly what I was thinking at that moment...I had to rewind to make sure it wasn't something else in the house...
I play gothic metal; that's why I bought them. They sound monstrous on bass.
If the US Dream is anything like the JOYO US Dream it's a clone of a Suhr Riot.
Interesting
Thank you for reviewing! I seen these and wondered about them. There’s a cheaper type pedal on amazon called Dark Mouse Distortion! It’s supposed to be 2 Rats in 1.
I am doing a lot of research on effects. I like your criticism. Too many people just say, hey it does the thing. Also, I play synths. There aren't enough reviews with examples on synths. Would love to see you run a cheap synth through all the effects, maybe a korg minilogue, at the end just to give us synth folk an idea about the need for any effect your review. If you added synth to your keywords You'd get a lot of synth users watching your videos.
The dirt pedals sound okay through the mic but I understand when you described their sonic quality. The question is, can you make it sound awesome if you can fiddle around the amp EQ (or pair it to a particular amp... y'know, mix-n-match).
Overall, I might consider getting these cheap pedals so I can quickly build my rig and perhaps replace the pedals over time when I get a better budget. Thanks for featuring these unknown pedals.
They're awesome for bass. I flatline my EQ, no cut or boost. Fucking monstrous. I'm sure you could dial in a good tone on an amp for guitar with these.
I think it's not that the tremolo has a boost, it's just that you're getting the top end back when its buffer is engaged. These are 5 true bypass pedals in a row after all.
Fabio Ortega that’s totally possible
So, is it buffered, or true bypass? Which one? You can't have both at the same time...
@@MrLeadbelly1966 It's true bypass, but it has an input buffer which is active only when the pedal is on, as most pedals do.
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. 🎸
The tremolo is actually amazing, you can adjust it perfectly to your preferences (massive improvement in my opinion) IF you have to open the casing and adjust the 2 trim pots. You can get that really intense tremolo effect that the pedal wasn't capable of before.
I think the breakout star is the phaser, which is pretty well all you need with its one knob. The chorus could be improved a lot with a mix knob, which would allow subtle chorusing or straight up vibrato. For me, the default mix is too much wet signal.
I thought the Phaser was the worst of the bunch. The MXR Phase 90 makes it look like a $20 pedal. It's hardly audible and completely lacks a full phase. Also, dialed all the way to the right, it sounds more like a tremolo than a phaser. Don't like that one at all!
The US Dream is called OUR DREAM in Soviet Union.
The way god intended
They sounded superb particularly the phase and distortion pedals
I love these vids. Thanks!
The us dream thing almost leads me to believe that these are mini rebranded joyo pedals. Which honestly wouldn’t surprise me cause they’re all cheap Chinese pedals most likely mass produced in the same place.
Dicks Malone they all have the same names/controls as joyo pedals. I’m thinking the same thing.
The pedal is meant to a Suhr Riot clone but i've yet to see any comparison vids but iam sure they are out there!
I just came on here to say the same thing.
I think there are huge differences between cheapo Chinese pedals. Maybe they're all manufactured in the same spot but i think there's still different schematics from different brands/purchasers or something like that. And a lot of trying to copy each other. But parts and performance are not always the same.
More likely rebranded Rowin just like Tomtops Donner line....
i've got kmise zebra humbuckers on my cheap LP (oscar schmidt) they're pretty hot - in the 10 - 12k range i like the way the look and sound and the pair was 14 bucks...
I've got 22k output by MJS custom pickups. You ever spend the money that you'd spend on seymour Duncan and those brands.....just get MJS
Bootstrap pickups are made in the USA and very cheap. Full set of strat handwounds for $45. The era of cheap good pickups is upon us.
Hey! Nice video! Very informative! Very cost effective pedals! Greetings from Singapore!
Kmise pickups sound pretty darn good. I preferred them over my whole Lotta humbuckers.. Which is insane
The purple 1 sounds ok, definitely Boogieish! Nicer character than the blue one. Warmer, more 'organic' sounding. It DOES do low gain better than the blue crunch pedal!
13:53 yup, sounds very Rush,..er,..I mean Lush..
I received today the crunch distorsion pedal and it sounds very good with my Blackstar HT40MKII and my Gretsch 🔥🎸🖤
Damn that crunch sounded a lot better than I expect
very grungey sounds
I do have a fulll set up but recently got a jtm60 that these might be fun to put on a mini board for. save my fancy stuff for the road and just use these cheapies for messing around
This guy just played all apologies on the chorus section
I have the phaser. It's great. I think it sounds closer to a Phase 45 than a Phase 90 (which is a good thing IMO). I had a big (1.5") volume knob that fitted onto it, so now it's really easy to adjust the speed on the fly with my foot. Bargain pedal!
I’m late watching this vid 😅 and I’m sure you have already been told but I’m pretty such the US dream pedal is based off the suhr riot... there are a few other pedals with the same colour scheme called US dream (joyo do one me thinks!) which are based off the suhr riot.
Great vid, looking for cheap pedals to put on a back up board to keep in the van just in case...
I thought the RAT sounded pretty good for high gain - for the price, of course. Chorus and phaser both sounded like decent entry-level options for someone who's just toying around with certain effects. Didn't think highly of the other two, though.
THE US DREAM IS A CLONE OF A SHHR RIOT! IT IS LIKE A SUPER DISTORTION TOOBE SCREEMER. IT DOTN SOUND NICE. I USE MXR 78 SOUPER DISTORTIONNES!! THANKS YOUE AND THUBBMMERS UPPERSES!!!
"Phaser Curious" new band name!!!
I love your review. Nice pedals
The US Dream is one of my favourite pedals, its awesome!
Hey Ryan, in you're journey of cheap pedals, can you take a look at the ammoon POCK series? Think u gonna buy buy buy dude
Hey! These are $20 pedals. I regularly see dudes demo $3-500 pedals on RUclips. You can't expect these ones to be as great as the super pricey ones. But to the Average Guitar player I think the cheap ones are okay. I know that's how I think. I once had a signed Zvex pedal, cost $400. It didn't really make me sound any better, and I'm not bad either. I sold it for more than I paid and was glad I did considering it was a lot of dough.
Thanks for the idea bro, I got some pedals that don't sound so great to me . So thanks
Jonathan Hands yeah especially if you’re trying things out. I would rather spend $20 on a phaser to see if I like it. Then maybe go big. I’m a basement player though so why spend the big bucks... I have but it’s not necessary
Ryan, the boost on tremolo pedals is to prevent the volume drop and thats is an issue on a big part of the old boss TR2, and thats because you are actually hearing half of the signal. Thas why AnalogMan Piera do some mods on the some TR2 to fix that, rising and adjusting some of the volumen.
I just received the Crucnh Distortion - from the slow boat from China - that I bought based on this review! It's a super fun pedal! I play mostly jazz related stuff, so I don't use a lot of overdrive, and even less distortion, and when I do a good old TS usually is more than enough for me. But every now and then an occasion arises where you need a crazier-over-the -top-high-gain-sound and that's where this pedal comes in handy! I think it sounds amazing in the high-gain regions, especially when you think it costs only 20 bucks! It does that really compressed pumping-rhythm thing with tone backed off and the more nasal Ratty-Marshallish high gain thing with the tone half way up. Sustain is almost endless! And amazingly when you max the gain and you play full barrée chords it doesn't even become a nasty blurry distortion mash, but some note definition and string-separation stays intact! I am really, really impressed by this cheap little bugger!
You should check Guitar Madness or Dragonfire pickups. Guitar Madness has a *set* of DiMarzio Super Distortion clones for like $35... Dragonfire has those too, plus X2Ns, Crunchlabs, Invaders, etc.(clones)
Yes they are equally good sound wise but building quality is even a bit better, those are artec pickups only rebrended by dragonfire (in my opinion). anyhow great pickups, good as any other overpriced brand on the market.
@@sisajtegabre I wanna throw a set of the Super Distortion clones in my ESP-LTD EC-256... nothing wrong with the stock pups, but hey, it's what we do, eh? LOL
Oh, I couldn't find them, because on Amazon they are misspelled "Kmsie". :-)
I would need a chorus, but that one seems to be clipping to me?
it's absolute junk.don't waste your money
Thank you for letting us know. I haven’t been able to find them.
i just got one today the chorus sounds just like a boss-Ibanez or any other pedal and for the price can't go wrong
Does not ship to Canada, but this is available on Wish for $39 Canadian shipped. Any pedal under $40 gets my attention. Another good find. Thanks Ryan
Cool shirt bro
Man! When I was a 14 year old kid just learning my rock chops, I would have loved if these cheapie pedals were around! Would I use these now for a serious gig. Probably not. Well, maybe for some of the dive bars I play. Drunk people don’t really care. But I could have definitely used these as a kid. Can’t really beat it for 20 bucks.
I was just thinking that myself. I had nothing when I had my school band as a teen. We were rubbish and these pedals are quite possible far superior to us, but my word we had fun and I am pretty sure I'd have loved all of these at their parent-friendly birthday present prices.
Absolutely! And what you get for the price is much better than eating fast food, and cheaper and healthier and doesn't give you a fat arse like all those American guys with their baseball caps (the wrong way round).
That distortion sounds more like a metalzone than a rat to me
mrNobody100 I have the metal zone as my primary. ( I absolutely love it) I think you’re right. The high gain sounds similar. Mid sounds almost dead on but my metal zone at the low end is way better. For $20! Though you can’t beat it
It sounds exactly like a FAB metal, but with less treble and more pleasing midrange.
It does have that plastic-y Metal Zone sound, you’re right.
Kmise sells pickups, pickguards and other guitar items. These sound fine for budget pedals. Just when I thought my pedalboard was complete 😆
I kinda liked that sparkle that the Trem pedal did when the intensity was all the way down. I could run one of those like that as an always on pedal easy.
That surprised me (the boost). I'm not into tremelo, or fuzz, but for a cheap pedal to mess around with, it's worth getting.
