Average Practice volume was 7-8 on the volume and gig volume 4-5 and it did it all!. Great quality amp and simple to service. I now run a 2555x Silver Jubilee and swap out between that and my Vintage Modern 2466 100 Watt & JCM 2000 DSL100 with the latest revision circuit board that had all the reliability issues fixed.

I recently bought the 2x12 combo with those lovely custom Marshall greenbacks. I was enamored at first, but now I have serious buyer’s remorse. -The body and detail controls should be renamed to mud and brittle. The bass is a flubby mess. The low pass cutoff on the body control gets no higher than 72 Hz (220k and 10n). On the detail portion of the circuit the cathode bypass is at around 480Hz(!) WTF? The blocking cap then sets the high pass at 115Hz. Then there’s the odd 1k bass shelf. The result is the mid bass and low mids are completely wiped out unless you use the mid boost. When you do that the body control goes all the way up to 2kHz, trampling the detail control. -Because of a bass shelf just prior to the FX send, the loop colors the tone by making it thinner to the point that there is a large drop in volume -Pots are extremely cheap. Why Marshall would use them on a non-budget amp is beyond me. Luckily it’s a simple circuit with a nice topology so modding it to behave more like a plexi isn’t that hard. The extra tube used for the bump in gain can easily be converted into a cold clipper to get more of a JCM800 flavor when engaged. That seems to be the expectation here. Alternatively this tube could be used to go full on Soldano if you wanted or any number of other things. Friedman BE/HBE maybe?!?
I made some mods that I’m quite happy with that I thought I’d share. www.marshallforum.com/threads/marshall-vintage-modern.104813/page-4#post-1998742 If you’re ever in Petaluma California to say visit Mesa Boogie or something, feel free to swing on by and have a demo. I’d love to hear your amazing chops in person.
Tone wise, the JCM 2000 DSL is great. Build quality wise though, definitely not the greatest Marshall ever made. I bought one recently off Reverb and it crapped out immediately. I took it to my local guitar tech and he was like, "SEND IT BACK!". He says that a lot of them are failing at this point, some 10-20ish years after their production. And they're not easy to work on.
Reverb goes out on almost all the 2000’s. Mine blew a power transformer. But I bought it used as well and have no idea how it was cared for. I’d say they’re worth fixing tho. Find a good tech that can go over the entirety of the amp and you should have something that lasts.
@@vancegreening my understanding is that the 2000's are plagued with a runaway biasing issue. The Guitologist here on RUclips has a few videos of him working on the jcm 2000's, and they look like a major pain in the ass, haha. I guess some of them will need an entirely new motherboard, which will be like buying the amp again.
I had a Vintage Modern and it sounded good, but no matter what I did I could not dial out the piercing high end distortion. I sold it and got the 2203X. The 2203X kills the VM in every way.

Any tips to start with?
The JCM 800 was Marshall's saviour. The VM is Marshall's masterpiece. Remember: The VM is made for STRATS (and I don't care if Slash disagrees).
Shoegaze why do you say that? I’ve seen nothing saying it was purposed for strats alone.
The VM can thicken up the sound of a single coil Strat and give it more bottom end. This is why it is considered to be a perfect amp for Strats.

How do you think a marshall vm would sound combined with a laney ghr
Any Jcm800 vs mesa rectifier vintage mode?
-Because of a bass shelf just prior to the FX send, the loop colors the tone by making it thinner to the point that there is a large drop in volume
-Pots are extremely cheap.

If you’re ever in Petaluma California to say visit Mesa Boogie or something, feel free to swing on by and have a demo. I’d love to hear your amazing chops in person.
But but the VM has KT66 tubes! Can your DSL2000 do that?! 🤣
What riff is that right after the cat jumped down?
Ragdoll - Heaven above. Just found it on spotify.
I assume it's Leon's
Maybe more affordable, that is for myself, but now if I had some money to throw around then I guess a nice 1971 Marshall Super Bass Head...... oh yeah
Oh yeah indeed!
Maybe you should find a new tech lol cause he's lying to you.
You’re lying to yourself Eddie Money.
@@patricklongshanks378 I've had mine for like 14 years lol still running.
I had a Vintage Modern and it sounded good, but no matter what I did I could not dial out the piercing high end distortion. I sold it and got the 2203X. The 2203X kills the VM in every way.
Leon whats the tune at 0:43 ?? Gotta know! I saw this video months ago, then suddenly that melody came to my mind and played it a lot. Just today i realize i´ve heared it here!!! please tell me, i want to hear the complete song, not just the memory in my head! haha!
Ah yes! ruclips.net/video/SaZ0TMO9jr8/видео.html
If that would be the sound of a JCM800, nobody ever would have bought it. Thin and fizzy it sounds in that vid....
WTF Modern vintage 2266 sounds better!!!!!
I don't use real guitar amps.
The VM is a lot like a Jubilee 2555
Steve Boldt I’ve never had a jubilee but I love my VM, I’ve always wanted a silver so I’m glad you said it’s comparable
Nothing like it at all
Doesnt anyone play clean any more.Anyway they both sound the same.Theres not much difference between valve amps from same brand. That overdrive noise sounds the same on both.
No they dont
Can u like PLZ push the amps that ur doing demos on?? Every video I come to, it’s like u have the gain so damn low u ain’t getting no bump dude. Nobody will ever know their range
Cats don't like whammy pedals!!!
