The VM was probably the best money ever spent! The only thing you have to keep in mind: It’s a single channel amp! If you change anything you will have to tweak everything! Specially engaging the mid and gain boost! Do not expect to get two usable sounds using the footswitch!!!
I just learned that today from another video and tried it out and honestly yup it definitely gave it that certain something and the thickness it is always missing, I've had it for years and just never really used it much but now its gonna be an always on
Thanks for this. VM sounded killer (but I have one so it’s the sound in my head). 78 JMP sounded muted and like it needed attention ? AFD sounded shrill.
Yep not many guitarists understand the settings for the Vintage Modern, but its simply like a Jumpered Plexi SOme of the very best Rock Guitarists own VMs
@cliffords2315 Marshall claims it’s supposed to be a JTM if they kept advancing those instead of the superleads and jmps. So, as a JTM, the treble channel is generally better in my opinion. You need to really dial in the eqs on them. Low on bass, high on treble and midd.
@@MaxCarton I use to own a JVM, that is a good amp and plenty mods that can be done if you're so inclined. Think my dream amp would be a JMP 2203 with an orange 2x12 🤗
The JMP is head and shoulders the best! However, the VM surprised me. The AFD is super shrill, the very thing that has kept me away from Marshalls until I got my ‘78 JMP 2104 50w combo! I finally understand why these Master Model amps are so highly regarded.
Yep, the 2203/2204 JMP's (and combo versions) were the apex for classic rock. Of course, I still love Jubes, Jose mods, etc. However, you can do it ALL with a JMP MkII (and the optional boost). You own one of the finest amps ever made. Rock On!!!
In truth, the VM 2266 is a 36-watt amp, with the 2466 being a 72-watt amp. Further, the KT66 tubes like 4 to 8 ohms but definitely not 16 ohms. But one can decide for oneself.
Thanks for making this video! I couldn't really tell if you were using the mid boost on the Vintage Modern though? I can never decide if I want to use the mid boost or not on mine
Why don't u do a review on the jcm900 high gain dual revered amp with the EL34's.and show how to dial it in for a great sound.most people don't know how.thats why it gets a bad rap.👍..
It sounds really impressive, I have a question, does the 1978 Marshall Super Lead have any mods or is it completely stock? Do you use the Solodallas pedal in front of it or is it just the amp at 10 with the attenuator? Thank you for this.
In this video only the amp. It is put to 72-73 superlead spec by Dries Pottevijn of Solodallas. But to be honest if you get a superlead from 70-80 they can all be serviced to sound great if they have stock transformers. I have an actual 73 superlead now that sounds very similar.
man this video couldve been so good. so many good amps in one place, proper mic positioning and recording equipment. and u didnt use that potential at all....super cryptic playing and constant fiddeling on the knobs. woudlve been so much nicer to hear some proper riffing and longer sound clips.
@@MaxCarton i didnt down-vote ur video, neither did i troll or criticize in an incomprehensible way. i gave some constructive criticism. if you cant handle that, im very sorry for you sir :)

Ok. I am happy with my purchase of a Vintage Modern 50 watt head.
Great demo my friend !!!.....one of the best out there !
Thanks mate!
VM is a super underrated amp
Yeah, they’re incredible. I really wish Marshall would reissue them someday.
Great comparison! The thing with the VM mid "boost", it's really a mid cut when off, and normal Marshall mids when ON.
Cool! Always nice to learn!

Seem like you can get AFD tones out of the VM but the JMP is a different beast. Not really a fan of the AFD but VM is worth more than it sells for.
Really good amp for the price a VM! Liked the jmp too for classic tones but not easy to use. I’d go for a 2204 or 2203 if you want a classic.

Vintage Modern for the win
VM is a killer
As stated in my other comments it really is a killer amp especially for the price!
I have AFD100, it's the best Marshall and the best amp in the universe.
It sounds amazing!
It is a great amp...but the best amp in the universe is the Vintage Modern!
It does sound great here.

No problem dude! Love it with single coils!
@@MaxCarton Was this Mid Boost engaged in these clips?
It goes in and out on the low dynamic range. Don't think I used it on the high dynamic range.

Amai, dienen afd 100 ken ik precies :p coole video!
Marcheert goe! 🤘😉
JMP for me all the way!
One cost 10 time less expensive ( mostly ;) ) in used market and sound as good as the other ! So, winner is... no they all sound good but differents.
and old amps need new tranformers and Caps, costing more money after you find one you can afford
Hi
Are you using any attenuator? I see your masters are really high, that's why they sound so amazing.
Also good miking!
It’s in the video, fryette powerstation
How is the fx loop on VM? Any problems?
Mine sounds way thinner when engaged :-/
Terrible loop actually haha
@@0megalul309 you dont know, because you dont have one HA HA
I din´t know how Marshall Amp really sound. Could you make a video where you play Marshall amps and the line 6 HX stomp?
i wish afd 100s were affordable :(
True, I got one for a good deal. It is worth every penny!
@@MaxCarton buying a silver jub rn. Maybe ill get an afd later
Both great usable heads. My fav is definitely the AFD.

AFD’s high frequency is too spikey....
You tame that by cranking the input gain more than you would in the other two. It fattens up really quick
Vintage Modern all the way! AFD is shrill and the JMP is too muddy. But I guess you could tame the latter.
Have all these also, well actually i sold the AFD as its the worst amp Marshall made in my honest opinion
Vintage modern has an unpleasant spike around 500hz which makes it sounding way cheaper. Any way to dial it out?
Typically, people don't know how to use the pre-amp section in the dynamic range. Lots online about this buzz issue.
Just turn the mid boost off.

Just joking mate. There'll be more solid riffs in the next video especially for you 😉 thanks for wachting and commenting in any case!
