  • We discuss the best and most popular upgrade options for 1st generation Toyota Sequoia headlights. Aftermarket LED headlights are a popular upgrade in the Sequoia offroad and overlanding community, so we talk about the most common options for your vehicle. These Sequoia headlights fit all models from 2001 to 2007. I gathered the research when deciding how to upgrade my 2006 Sequoia, and I wanted to inform you all about the different LED options.

Please consider offering the headlight and bulb options on your site. When I hear others say something they tried had too much reflective properties or the headlight allowed water inside, it scares me to do it my own. I like the way you know because you did it!

Love the black headlights, but I'd love some rear tail light options. Something to make it look a little more aggressive. Love your stuff!

I drive my 2006 Sequoia Limited a lot. I recently replaced my headlights, which had re-fogged quickly after I'd cleared them up last year. I bought $100 replacements on Amazon. Got them in. Replace the blinkers with LEDs, replaced the relay so they didn't "hyperblink" etc. Look fine. However, there's a big loss of quality of night time light projection, and I'm really disappointed. If you can produce a good looking, and great performing headlamp, there's definitely a market for them. I don't want to spend the big bucks to get "projectors" but do want to see clearly at night, particularly on road trips where animal crossings are a constant hazard. (A few years ago, coming out of Yellowstone at night, I just saw the heard of deer on the highway in time to full ABS break to a stop and not hit one. I'd hate to try that with my new headlights.)

The lenses, while technically compatible with all first-gen Sequoia's (01-07), do not all fit the same. The lenses shown should fit close to the factory for the 05-07 models. 05-07 which is the facelift for the 1st gen sequoia has a slightly different fit and shape than the 01-04 models. 01-04 has much less when it comes to after-market cosmetics, including the lights and grille. There will be a noticeable gap at the bottom corner of the light housing closest to the grille if a light for a 05-07 sequoia is placed on a 01-04. I prefer the OEM headlights on my 02 for this reason.
On another note, just wanted to give some praise to TRC for all the content around the 1st gen Sequoia. Has helped with trying to make mine a bit more unique, both inside and out. Already done a complete exterior LED conversion (both front and rear) and a full interior conversion (thanks to your video for giving me the idea) with only the heated seat lights and powered window lights remaining for now. Mine, unlike most, is built completely as a street SUV, which doesn't come with many options if you want to maintain a cleaner/sleeker look. Don't know what to do for it now though.

I would LOVE to see a headlight design for the 02 Sequoia that works well with an LED bulb upgrade. They need reflectors and lens calibration built into the housing that specifically work with the LED bulbs on the market (like Morimoto). Hate the cheap assemblies and the high end stuff have a crazy CA car show look - and do not accept outside LED bulbs.I hope you can make a rugged/reliable and well sealed assembly designed specifically for LED's bulbs.

I have the same lights as you do. Mine have yellowed quite badly after about a year. Looks WAY worse that the factory lenses did. Also, the black housing has faded from sun exposure. However, my next set, I will be clear coating the lenses with a UV protecting spray to protect both the lens from yellowing and the housing from fading.

Thank you! I like the OEM but would like to have the black version but not smoked lenses. I have 2003 Limited and these would be a great look.
