As a Dhoni fan, it's so rare to even acknowledge he did not have many runs post-2016. Dhoni in the IPL and Dhoni in the international ODIs after 2015 were two different batsmen. Now I don't believe it has anything to do with money ( as people would generally interpret it). Still, it has to do with the difference in quality between IPL and International Cricket. Maybe he took the role of being an anchor too seriously in International cricket, but in IPL he was more free. So I think it's more than the footwork, it's having different roles and expectations that defined how Dhoni slowly faded.
I always hoped he took on the role of big hitter more often in international cricket than just trying to play the anchor role, especially when Kohli was there to play an anchor. Also he was coming down too late 6th down even to plan an anchor role. A pinch hitter would have suited more. He should have batted 2nd down, if he had to anchor.

U didn't even analysed how our batting structure remodeled and were build brilliantly by captain and coach in 2023..and u are giving shitty comments with zero knowledge...
Infact Rohit is took the greater responsibility and most risky role in the entire batting unit..for the team,he changed his batting approach..if he had same old approach,he could have done the same as 2019 or considering the Indian pitch he could have easily scored 750+ runs..
In 2019 both Rohit and kohli played anchoring innings,in a team, untill unless situation demands both batters can't have same anchoring innings,in 2019 our team's majority percentage of runs, scored heavily by top order and one bad day and pitch conditions, top order collapsed and rest of the batters couldn't handle and lead the team to victory plus wrong batter at the most crucial postion which at4in 2019..
Post to 2023,one batter from top order has to play an aggressive approach,we can't ask that to gill, then remaining Rohit and kohli is there...kohli can't definitely change his batting approach and take agressive approach from the starting his innings, since he is not that much adaptive in changing his batting approach,so as a leader Rohit took that risky role and lead from the front...
By making Virat centre point ,he build his team,...he provided almost everytime ood start with great runrate and runs on the board and took all the risk and bashed opposition main bowlers..which pushed opposite captain to use his main bowler to bowl extra overs to take his wickets
,so Rohit wasted opposite main bowlers atleast one over which was beneficial for coming batters and by bashing opposition Rohit gained mental advantage over opposition and good mental state for team India..
With good start of Rohit and best possible runrate in score board,Virat Kohli had literally no pressure and he can play his natural game and can take his time, since it won't affect the runrate, due to Rohit's contribution..it was applicable for rest of the batters also..and in the middle while kohli doing anchoring role,Rohit made sreyas to play aggressive against spinners and middle order which balanced nd maintained teams run rate...

Dhoni scored more than 500+ runs almost each year while playing in lower order & 1000+ runs each year when he played in top order. Only time he struggled was during 2016 & 2018. How many runs pandya scored every year in odi while playing in lower order? His best performance was in 2017 wher3 he scored 557 in 19 matches. Meanwhile Dhoni scored 600 runs in 16 matches in his last year before taking retirement. That was not even his best year. How many runs Jadeja scored in 2023 in odi format? Only 309 in 17 matches. Surya scored only 389 in 20 matches. But still people had Problem with Dhoni's performance in his last years. Dhoni scored more runs than all these 3 players who dhoni haters thought can replace Dhoni during dhoni was not at his peak. MS Dhoni is revered as a legend by some and criticized by others. As a cricket fan, while I may not be a fan of Dhoni’s batting, I deeply admire his captaincy and wicketkeeping skills. You can't deny the fact that he reached the pinnacle of ODI rankings when the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers, Michael Hussey, and Chris Gayle were dominating the scene-all while batting in the lower order.
Until his wicket fell in the 2019 World Cup semi-final, everyone stood by him, but after that, only his true die-hard fans remained loyal, while others began to criticize him. Fans of Kohli and Rohit started pointing out his batting stats, alleged political tactics, and more.
But do you think Dhoni cares about anyone's opinion? Absolutely not. He’s living his best life, still earning millions. Famous people like him don’t concern themselves with whether you support or hate them. So, why waste energy arguing in the comments section?

  • @rorschach1724
    @rorschach1724 6 месяцев назад +8

Dhoni was unorthodox. Comparing him with other unorthodox batters, say for example Virender Sewag or an Adam Gilchrist, Dhoni lacks "balance at the crease". You can easily say that hand eye coordination is the key, if you lack footwork. But hand eye coordination comes from the stillness of the head when you watch the ball being delivered out of the bowlers hand(and you watch it all the way on to the bat, ofcourse, everything happens in a fraction of a second against the pacers).
If you take take a look at Gilchrist and sewag, their balance (which comes from the stillness of the head while watching the ball delivered out of the bowler) puts them in great positions to play a shot according to the line and the length of the ball. The modern day definition of batsmanship revolves around balance at the crease.
But if you take a look at MS, his head was not still enough to watch the ball close enough being delivered out of the bowlers hand. This puts his body in awkward positions while playing shots(while Gilchrist and Sehwag gets into eye pleasingly great positions while playing a shot).
Your comments about Sachin's bat speed was accurate.
Sachin lost significant amount of bat speed in the early 2000s due to tennis elbow. If you take a look at him in the 90s, he used to play a lot of lofted shots against quality pacers(courtsey to his bats speed)
Courtesy to his balance and footwork, Sachin managed to play another 11 more years of international cricket and was very successful(although he got some criticism being not aggressive enough in the limited over format).

Great video, but imo the technique change that messed it up for him happened in the Test Series against England in 2014. He had widened his stance and started standing upright instead of his natural bent back/low hands position. He started tucking his hands in, particularly his left elbow to avoid poking outside off stump and he'd walk across and work those deliveries to the on side throughout that series. This allowed him to be relatively successful considering he was the second highest scorer for India in that series (4 50s in batting collapses, more saving grace than match winning knocks really). From then on, he kept trying to work his way back to his original explosive technique (while trying alternatives along the way) but he couldn't because of his deteriorating hand eye coordination as you pointed out. His ability to step out to spinners was hampered, especially to the ball turning away and with time and he ended up being just a crafty 240-270 chasing ODI batsman for the last 4-5 years of his career. 2018-19 in the IPL he had managed to salvage some of his hitting prowess, but I'd attribute that to smaller grounds, easier bowling and more confidence/clarity in what his role was considering he is the end all be all at CSK.

@@avviralsharma4965 Sachin's career is an anomaly cause he started too young, but the other two didn't exactly hit the ground running like MS did. People don't remember ABD's days opening for SA when he used to play outside 'the box' that he now describes as a pillar for his success. Similarly, Rohit was Maggi-man for his first 5-6 years till he tasted success opening in CT13. Two far more technically superior batsmen spent 5-6 years trying to find their mojo. On the flip side, MS came in, made an impact right away, and in his first 5 years, became World no.1 in ODIs with Sachin, Sehwag and Yuvraj playing alongside him. So yeah 2015-19 weren't great, but we cut him slack by allowing him those five years of mediocrity that he wasn't afforded at the start of his career lol. Again just my opinion, I could be wrong. One fact is undeniable though, nobody hits sixes like him, that brutal bat swing is unforgettable.

I too wondered why nobody talks about so many technical changes Dhoni made in his later years.
I think it was almost a psychological problem with him. In his later years he just wasn't the same confident Dhoni of old. Dhoni's technique was never good but it didn't matter bcoz of his confidence and clear thinking.

About MSD i believe it is a problem of every unorthodox big hitter to suffer that fate at some or other time in their career . It began to happen to MSD very late in his career , same for Yuvi and Raina who struggled against spin or short pitch bowling even more later on. The only technical big hitter i see who hasn't struggled is Rohit sharma and that's why he was regarded as Sachin Tendulkar's replacement before kohli came along but still he is doing great when Kohli was struggling for runs in T20 world cup.
please make a video on shubhhman gill and why he is struggling since 2023 2024? He is not as good as he was till 2022.
He is coming in form or out of form more often this 2 years and Jaiswal and Ruturaj are onto his space now of becoming the next great after Kohli.

@@1239-p1k Bro Rohit was hyped as the Next Great after Sachin as he was also from Mumbai Ranji team and getting selected to play at the age of 20yrs . Virat kohli was also great but he only became more famous after winning the under 19 world cup in 2008 as a captain. It got him into the team . Whereas Rohit was tried only in 1 series before being directly put in the T20 world cup squad of 2007, That's how good he was. But he was languishing in the middle order at no5 or no6. He was in and out of team before 2013 rolled around, he was not selected for 2011 world cup due to poor performances .
He was also ridiculed by Aaj tak news channel back in 2011 for being unfit and that's when he told his friend/senior from from Mumbai Ranji team Ajay nayar that he will do whatever it takes to be fit again and make a comeback permanently and this was after world cup 2011 Triumph. That's when Hitman was born. So when 2013 champions trophy was coming up in few months Rohit sharma was literally made opener alongside Shikhar Dhawan In place of Sehwag and Gambhir actually . They both were dropped till that time due to bad form and Dhoni wanted new players to take the centrestage just like 2007 world cup. Till 2013 Rohit sharma had 3 hundreds and around 25 fifties being a no.5/no.6 batsman . But after 2013 champions trophy his record exploded. He was among runs and IPL trophies also .
Now onto virat kohli , he is like Sachin Tendulkar, he likes to meticulously build his innings , prefers ground shots, boundaries mostly but will hit a few 6s if he can. He is big match player , loves chasing big targets but has huge hunger for runs just like Sachin . Whatever he achieved he got it because of his determination, courage , go getter attitude 💪, discipline, passion and hard work obviously, I respect that and love that about him but Rohit sharma was a natural god gifted talent for Batting , when Rohit sharma was coming up Kohli also has heard a lot about him so he decided to watch him play and what he saw amazed him to the point that he was awestruck by his Batting, he just sat there seeing his effortless stroke play. This has been said by Virat kohli himself.
So who the fuck are we to judge ? See Rohit sharma can play aggressively and calmly build his innings also. Plus he makes it look effortless. Even when he hit 264 not out he was calmly steadily building his innings hence the first 50runs came slowly but after that he exploded through the opposition bowling line-up. When Rohit came back in the dressing room after hitting 264 not out Coach Duncan fletcher just told him if he didn't play slow during the first fifty runs he would have hit a 300 that day.
Right now at this point in history Rohit sharma is on the level of Virat kohli as a equal. Even Gambhir himself said it during IPL once "Only captain or player to give me sleepless nights is Rohit sharma . Against Rohit sharma Plan A,B,C everything falls apart if he is playing ."

On the other hand, raina was just given too many chances. They could have given those number of chances to Manish pandey or Ambani rayudu back then.
And shubman gill is struggling only in tests because he wants to look as elegant as Kohli but in that process he is compromising on his technique. If focuses on technique, he can become even better batsman than Kohli.

He put off the trigger movement in 2018 because of his back issues that began cropping up midway through the IPL. You can see him triggering even as late as the innings against KXIP when he hit 70 odd in a losing cause, but the trigger progressively reduces after this innings. The back and across did reappear (I think) in the England ODIs that followed, at least against spinners, but he was inconsistent with its usage.

He himself chose to end his carrer and if he wouldn't have called for a retirement...he could still find a place in the team because he offers so much experience to the team.

Casual Dhoni fan here and i have something to clarify about the pads part...
A few years back, presumably at around 2015, I had asked to many of my elder relatives who watch cricket as to why does Dhoni use those old, short and worn out pads and that too with 2 straps while basically every other batsmen that wee see use taller and 3 strapped pads? Well they're no expert cricket analyst as this guy but they all suggested the same thing; its not about having 2 straps; over time as the pads wear out the weight decreases (even if it is in a negligible amount) so dhoni, or any other batsmen who uses old pads really, can run faster between the wickets... And no joke; Dhoni is a monster between the wickets... He runs like a bull, I've seen videos of him running at around 30kmph or something... Apart from the plenty of dot balls that he consumes I think he is still a solid batsman considering his age as well... And Dhoni often struggles with back pain so the problem is he couldn't dive... so maybe that's why he stuck to these type of pads, in order to run faster instead...
Creator, please verify this for me...
And I like your style of talking and analysing... Yes dhoni barely uses footwork in recent times, I agree... But he is still able to hit big shots and what not, in the IPL at least... It always makes you happy seeing him play, agree or not🙂

Dhoni and Sehwag both had a batting style that was heavily dependant on their batspeed and hand-eye coordination. Both started declining in their early 30s when both of those started to go with age, and Sehwag was pretty much done at 35. So was Dhoni, but his leadership helped him stay a bit longer. Sachin and Dravid had more solid technical foundations, which is why when the physical abilites start declining they could still rely on their technical ability to adapt and change their style a bit. Virat Kohli is like a hybrid of the two styles, and I REALLY REALLY hope hecan adapt his style too without this 5th stump ball thing becoming an Achilles heel.

As a Dhoni fan, I do agree with badically all of the points in this video. But a few things i would say is that learning is an important but not very recognized skill in a sports player, especially in cricket. Dhoni learning and changing things after a successful career spanning over a decade should be applauded. And also, thala wasnt as good with the bat after world cup 2015 tbh. He was getting older and had to keep as well, and that really took a lot out of him. Even Sangakkarra stopped keeping a lot later in his test career and thats why people say he retired in his prime. Also, a lot of his changes did work, but he was still under pressure due to not being the batter he once was. To add on to that, Dhoni had, all things considered, a pretty alright finish to his career with the bat, considering where he was in 2016. His batting was better than average in 2017 and 18, and his batting was average in 2019. And looking onto the 2019 world cup, it looked like a washed dhoni performed better than a young rahul and pant as a keeper. Essentially, Dhoni changed his techniques, and it didnt work out as well due to his age and keeping on top of that. A lot of people in this comment section are just finding this video as an excuse to hate on dhoni or praise him mkre, when in fact i felt like none of your points really degraded him nor praised him, just showed what kind of player he was.
