Congrats on the marriage Phil! You and Hailey make a great team! I really liked the video too! I have been getting creative around the house and working on my wheelies
What’s your opinion/advice on bikes for kids/short adults around the 5’1” and under height range? Such as frame and wheel sizing, handlebar width, crank length, or availability of bikes on the current market?
Dude! Old man subscriber here (57 years old). These drills are awesome. My girl (43 years old) just started riding about 9 months ago and she's really getting in to it. These drills will certainly be a great benefit to her.
What I like about your videos Phil is most of what you show doesn't cost any money nor require special equipment; there is also always a fun factor too. Thanks Phil !!!!
Thank You Phil and Hailey. I got back into MTB after many years and doing these skills courses helps a lot. I watch your videos, Alex's videos and Seth's all the time. My 11 year old son and I ride each day. We built a mini trail in our backyard and can add these challenges to it. Thanks for sharing your passion for the sport. MTB is so addicting and fun. Our trail riding group grows all the time.
Wow! This totally takes me back to when I was a kid. My brothers, friends and I would make small tracks with lots of challenges like this. Really does help your balance and technical ability.
Thanks so much for this video. My 11 and 14 years old sons have taken a strong interest in MTB over the past week and these skills will be great for them to practice. I will also be learning with them. I am so excited they have got the mountain biking bug.
I like when you have Hailey in the videos! You could end with.. as always "We are Phil and Hailey! Congrats on getting married! Thanks for skills video. Im trying to learn how to manage fairly tight singletrack downhill turns. I think the bike lean may work with my 29" wheels.
Thanks for the ideas on how to get better and entertain myself. These are the types of videos that first got me hooked on your channel. Looking forward to hitting the trails once they open.
Old Men on MTBs oh yes the word simple is always very subjective :-) if you want - I have many easier skills and step by step tutorials on my channel Ride & Inspire. Ride on, Roxy
I've been doing stuff like this (and loads of trackstands - got 5 seconds one handed!) in my yard for like 3 weeks now and I was wondering if I was silly for doing it but you're an unreal rider so this makes me feel better about that ahaha
Wow what a great video! only problem is you make it look way too easy ! lol I've fallen over a LOT trying these, but i'm starting to get the hang of it. the front wheel parking space is so insanely hard to do !! hopefully i'll start to see a difference when riding actual trails, the improved balance , and awareness of where my wheels are at should help a ton! Thanks a bunch for this Video!
Great to see your faces, thanks for the EXCELLENT Idea. I have a sloped backyard with a large concrete slab patio, we can make some great challenges with it.
In your next "simple tricks" video (if you do another one) you should do an endo can can and endo 180 can can, I find it fun and easy. Congrats to you and Hailey too! You guys are great, keep it up!
Hey Phil, great stuff as always. I love seeing Hailey in the vids too. When you backpedal during your fakie, do you keep tension on the chain, or do you backpedal fast enough for it to have zero tension?
I will usually keep very minimal tension if any until I need to switch directions. This is worth paying attention to more closely the next time I ride :)
... reminds me of one spot on my favourite (natural) trail. Right-hand turn of about 170 degrees, and a tree right next to the trail about four feet behind the apex (on the right-hand side), leaning heavily over the trail. What's special about it is the fact that at the left edge of the narrow trail there is a vertical drop of about six feet and then a steep slope further down below it. So, you need to avoid the tree, but you don´t have much space to go around it and you actually don´t want to lean too much away from it (and from the trail). :) A combination of all skills mentioned here highly recommended. :)
Thanks for the ideas! We just spent some time practicing stoppies in a local park. It was quite the challenge and I'm sore in some new places - shoulders and around the rib cage. Endo turns are next 🚵♀️!
I really enjoy your videos. I have one that for some reason I have a mind block on that I cant seem to get. I normally ride clipless, but have recently put flats on my Wreckoning to try and learn some things without busting my ass too bad! I've been practicing the trac stands and the front wheel hoping, and wheelies, but its getting the rear wheel endo, and the total bike hop with flats that I am fighting with. I could do the full bike hop (kinda) with clipless, but i guess i am doing something wrong cuz picking up the rear of the bike without being able to pull the bike up with my feet clipped in is pretty sketchy! A total lack of skills for an old guy! LOL Any help would be appreciated.
John Griffin Hi John - Yes riding flats is definitely a great skills instructor :-) It’s all about getting the connection between feet and hands or between foot 1 and foot 2 :-) Practice having your front heel low and the rear one rather up - you can see it in Phil’s videos. This way he wedges between the pedals :-) I also have a few videos about this and more skills on my channel, might want to check them out. Hope that helped. Roxy
Thank you, the video is a welcome distraction. First of all congratulations. I love the literal measurement of "A Foot" next to the dug out. Even funnier if your foot happened to be 12". The skills are a great idea for another reason. I biked on road last two days and had to pass walkers and runners on same side of road. A couple times it was difficult to stay far enough away. God I hope this doesn't last all summer.
Thank you, just what I needed right now. On top of everything else, the weather has been horrible out here. I'm going to try some of these skills around my neighborhood. Do you have any tips and tricks for riding off camber? I've had some struggles with that recently.
Calgaryguy88 hi Calgary, yes off camber is always positioning on your bike and leaning the bike while staying balanced. Maybe check out the video “preparing for ruts and north shores” on my channel - it’s about bike body separation. Hope you have better weather soon! Roxy
Hey Phil, idea. “How to best negotiate the steps inside the house”, for the next video. Consequences and dental appointments, but unfortunately going to the hospital is out of the question. I’ll think of something else... 🤨
Hey Phil, great video. What model of GT are you riding? You must have had a New Bike Day on it video? If so please send the link. There are few good trails near me that are still open but I think for today's ride I will use the exercises in this video to have a break from doing the same ride most days.
If I get enough questions, I might post up a quick ask me anything style video. Let me know what you want to know!
Congrats on the marriage Phil! You and Hailey make a great team! I really liked the video too! I have been getting creative around the house and working on my wheelies
Skills With Phil is going out to ride somettails a responsible thing to do in these times?
What’s the biggest jumps you’ve ever hit?
What’s your opinion/advice on bikes for kids/short adults around the 5’1” and under height range? Such as frame and wheel sizing, handlebar width, crank length, or availability of bikes on the current market?
I have 15 acres of land and have started building trails around the house, some trail tips would be helpful.
He actually got married right? Congrats dude. You and Hailey are quite the team!
We did :) But we still haven't gotten used to calling each other husband/wife, that might take a while!

Yes! I love all these videos! It's a shame ski and snowboard season ended early, I really liked those videos as well.
Seriously, my last day on a board was not the way I wanted to end!
This the content we need right now! Thank you for this

Great video, Phil and Haley! I'm definitely giving this a try this week.
Thank you!

Thanks Phil,Hailey that is me covered for tomorrow morning, :-)
Thanks for keeping up the skills videos.
Helps keep us all pointed in the right direction.
Stay safe and look forward to the next one.
Thank you for finally putting another skills video on the channel.

Hey Phil I just wanted to say thank you for bringing me back into biking!
These are FANTASTIC!! Thanks Phil!! 8)
Nice. And congratulations on tying the knot you guys are awesome together.
Thanks for the fresh drills! Stay well!

Phil you are back!!!! good to see you. Awesome vid
I love your videos I started mountain biking because of you thanks!!
Great video phil
Too bad we got snow again today, I'm itching to get back on my bike, thanks for the quick fix!
Good ideas there. There is never an excuse not to train your skillz!
you guys are seriously the best!!

House arrest. Unconstitutional.
Totalitarianism.
That "turning around in a confined space" drill is going to be very handy for alot of people over the next month or 2...
2:28 voice crack
sounded like the the squeeky voiced teenager from simpsons
Elie Haers haha funny... shut the fuck up
That's nothing compared to the takes that don't make it into the video. Talking is a lot harder than riding bikes.
@@SkillsWithPhil my voice isn't perfect either it's too deep and monotone and sometimes i have voicecrack periods
that was priceless
