Seth's Bike Hacks - since you both got new bikes recently could you do a video of how you physically 'break in' the bike and how you get used to it? Love both your videos
Playing around or generally being a bit of a hooligan on your bike is underrated. it's not just for bored teenagers. Riding is the most fun for sure, but playing around with tricks like this, is how you progress.
100% agreed. That's why kids are such good riders, they are bored, and they go outside and dork around without reason. As adults we get into this mindset that we need a reason to go ride, and that dorking around is a waste of time.
Bruce Gudmundsson my son(5) is starting to get to the point where he wants to start "playing around" riding little skinnies and jumps. I have more fun riding with him lately than hitting the trail by myself.
Awesome Eamon. When my boys were younger we would play around like that all the time because they did not have the stamina, or desire for that matter, to ride trail. So playing games like that is what we ended up doing most of the time. Some of my best memories and a time when my skill advanced the most.
Bruce Gudmundsson after a 20-year Hiatus from riding, playing around feels like the best way to increase my skills quickly. my girlfriend just tells me to quit jackassing around. lol
Welcome back to MTB Father Cupcake. Your girlfriend needs her own bike to jackass around on. Then you can jackass together, forever.. Sweet MTB love.. ;-)
The "Seated Sideways bars Feet on wheel" thing is actually called a "tracksit" kinda like a track stand but sitting on your saddle, sometimes on top of your stem, or handle bar. Its a common trick for fixie riders.
You are the real MVP! My google-fu wasn't working when I was trying to figure it out. Makes complete sense since standing still is a track stand. Thank you!
The back wheel hop and endo are more then tricks, they are useful skills. They are 2 of the handful of basic skills required for trials. Turning endos can be used on the trails too.
Absolutely! Most mountain bikers won't need those skills on a regular basis (unlike trials), that's why I'm considering them tricks in this context. There's definitely a gray area with some skills that blur the line between trick and a skill.
I'm a 46 year old dad that's only been back on a bike for about a year and really enjoying your Channel. thanks for all the tutorials, you're really helping this old guy get back in it!
The rating is subjective, take it with a grain of salt. It's not that difficult to do 1 to 3 hops Doing them as well as a trials rider is another story.
Skills With Phil haha, that's true, I may have never done them, but from what I've seen, that seems to be the case, in principle it looks simple, but applications of it and technique are vast
Jordan Keeler its not hard, just endo, then rock back onto your back wheel and start hopping around. Me and my two friends do this all the time and we are all between 12 and 16, and we all have beginner/ intermediate hardtails
That nose bonk on that hazard/traffic thing looked cool! It reminds me of free runners using their hands as they dive for a jump and use it to gain distance without their legs touching the ground.
Thank you for the demo of how to do these tricks. I'm looking to learn these not to show off but to jump over objects on trails or when stuck in traffic to avoid accidents. Got my work cut out for me....thankx again!
So learning the nolly before learning the nose bonk is super helpful. If you watch close, getting out of the nose bonk is the same as a nolly. Learning to push down and forward on the bars and getting the back wheel higher will make nose bonks so much more doable and fun! It's funny because in an American bunnyhop you lift the bars and push forward and doing a nolly you push down and forward.........right before you lift the front wheel. It's one of my favorite tricks I used to do on my BMX bike all the time. It's been awhile and this is a reminder that I need to relearn it on a mountain bike....🙂
Thank you Sawyer! The difficulty is a bit subjective so take that with a grain of salt. I just wanted to give people a good sense of what to try first.
ok, I'm very impressed, you took this to the next level, I need to learn endo now, I always said i could do without it. Thank you in advance for the future OTB''s and minor to serious injuries I will incur!!!! You the man PHIL!!!
Dude thanks man, I really appreciate the compliment!! Yeah man I've been working hard on the channel, it's been gaining traction, so I'm gonna continue pressing on ward. This thing has gotten serious, so I'm super stoked about the future!!
phil you're da best. You make the videos I wish had been around when I was a kid (well, I wish we had youtube when I was a kid. I made videos but had nobody to show them to) I would have instantly had cool friends to learn new tricks with via the internet. I'm now over 30, but I absolutely love what you do. Thanks. If you're ever in upstate NY, I'd love to get your autograph!!!
That endo 180 to revert in BMX freestyle we called a "Rock Walk". I can still do those on my MTB. Super fun and helps this old guy impress the grommets! ;-P LOL!
Nose Bonk is one of my favourite tricks of these eazy ones. I haven't seen it any where before and started doing it, so I didn't know how it's called. Now I know, thanks!
+Roko Petrina, I've posted this a few times. A fakie is when you go backwards, a revert is when you switch back. The full name is a fakie revert. These terms originally come from skateboarding.
Man I have no idea how your channel doesn't have more subscribers. Your skill and ability to explain those skills to teach others is great! Keep it up!
Nice tutorial. FYI in BMX it's often called a fakie rollout. It's considered good form to rollout the same direction you would spin. Usually if you ride right foot forward you spin left and vice versa. For example if you spin left 180 you would rollout left (or half cab/full cab).
new subscriber...just wanted to say I got a new bike last week after not riding for 5 years your videos have Ben very helpful...thanks..fills good to be back on a bike
OMg Phil, you're good! I've been working on just manuals and trying to bunny hop and still find it very challenging. Keep it up, great content / tutorials!
Nice. When goofing around in like to do G turns. Do a 180 endo , push your bars away from you, release the front brakes and roll in a circle on your front wheel. Practice finding your balance point and see how far you can go. I used to do these much further on my bmx bike YEARS ago. Can probably find tutorial here on RUclips.
While driving at a slow speed lean forwards on your handlebars and pull the rear wheel up by pulling the pedals with your feet Thats how i learned english bunny hops Edit:Dang i typed the front wheel instead of rear lol
I had the exact same problem, until today. Granted I did not get much hight but I think it will improve with practice. Ride along slow somewhere flat, your hands on the bars are one end of the brace, your feet on the peddles are the other. Think of it as if you are trying to press them apart, while bringing your weight forward and your feet up so they are at the same height (although I did not get close to that lol). My problem was I could never figure out what to press against with my feet to rase the back, turns out it was the whole body against the bars
My favorite parking lot trick is known by many names... scab rip, chug, mmm, chuur, arm twist, etc... ^^ PS - all you'll need is a few cold ones & a buddy or two, to assist ;-)
I've never heard fakie to pivot called a revert on a bike, (Always heard it called fakie to rollout or just rollout,) but it makes perfect sense. Never heard it called a tracksit before, (As in The Madddog's comment,) but that also makes sense. Nice Vid!
As always great video! I have so much fun watching your's and Seth's videos! I can do everything you showed but i have really really big problems in doing the revert/fakie thingi!! I would love a "trick breakdown video" for that one. Something like: "first you have to learn that.... than that and than lets combine those things and tadaaaa .... there is your revert/fakie!
180 jump. An extension of bunny hop. From a roll unstabalize your steering by a short left hard right (or short right hard left) And then do the bunny hop while looking the direction you need to go. On landing you will need to back pedal because of the forward momentum. Harder version of this is doing it onto an object.
Learning to ratchet (pedal kicks I think you called them) will increase your technical climbing ability big time, it’s the same movement, bike stalls while the body weight moves forward, then launch the bike through hard to roll section.
Like your narration style Phil. I used to do endos on my BMX by jamming one foot into the forks and tyre tread. Ive wanted to try on my MTB but I think the bike geometry's not right.
Saddle stand. A track stand while seated. I always thought is was a goofie name. But if you know a trackstand and you are sitting, ok I guess. -another good vid. Agree with seth, more!
Could you do a video about tricks with a dirtjumper!? I just got one and there really aren't a lot of video's about doing street tricks with them! Love the videos!

Mooooaaaaaaaarrr in danish is mooommyyyy :D
Seth's Bike Hacks - since you both got new bikes recently could you do a video of how you physically 'break in' the bike and how you get used to it? Love both your videos
The reason I train any MTB techniques isn't to be a better mountain biker. I just wanna show off :D
Whatever your motivation is, I support you!
Thanks Phil!

Anytime!
you can also do this with one foot on the crank and one foot on the wheel
one of the oldest tricks around, used to do it as a kid in the 80s
This is probably the best worded tutorials ive seen, I love this video.
ikr, 🤛🏻 😎
Well done, dude!
The back wheel hop and endo are more then tricks, they are useful skills. They are 2 of the handful of basic skills required for trials. Turning endos can be used on the trails too.

Great video! Love the positive vibes and well thought out explanations. Simple, concise, and clear. Thanks Phil!
Back wheel hops - difficulty beginner????
The rating is subjective, take it with a grain of salt. It's not that difficult to do 1 to 3 hops Doing them as well as a trials rider is another story.
Skills With Phil haha, that's true, I may have never done them, but from what I've seen, that seems to be the case, in principle it looks simple, but applications of it and technique are vast
I've seen a lot of people learn to do it by putting their front wheel on a bench, get on the bike and then try hoping.
Jordan Keeler its not hard, just endo, then rock back onto your back wheel and start hopping around. Me and my two friends do this all the time and we are all between 12 and 16, and we all have beginner/ intermediate hardtails
your age and beginner hardtails have no influence on your ability to rearwheel hop btw
That nose bonk on that hazard/traffic thing looked cool! It reminds me of free runners using their hands as they dive for a jump and use it to gain distance without their legs touching the ground.
Dude, my favorite vid in a while. Rad tricks in bite size pieces! Thanks!
I hope to see you busting these out on Drummer rides!
Thank you for the demo of how to do these tricks. I'm looking to learn these not to show off but to jump over objects on trails or when stuck in traffic to avoid accidents. Got my work cut out for me....thankx again!
Nollie is the Russian bunny hop
Hahaha! This comment is underrated.
Skills With Phil the revert thing is actually a fakey
+It's whatever riding backwards is called fakie, reverting back to your normal direction like that is called a revert.
In Soviet Russia, bunny hops you
It looks like a pogo stick.
This old fck needs
a hardtail to get around
So learning the nolly before learning the nose bonk is super helpful. If you watch close, getting out of the nose bonk is the same as a nolly.
Learning to push down and forward on the bars and getting the back wheel higher will make nose bonks so much more doable and fun!

That s is a great video and I like the editing I also thought it was cool that you put up the difficulty
Thank you Sawyer! The difficulty is a bit subjective so take that with a grain of salt. I just wanted to give people a good sense of what to try first.
Awesome Times in the front yard!!!! That's what we did back in the day, good way to get some friends and get a game of bike going!!!
Live-Life-Loud!
It's a great way to rapidly improve skills. Dorking around in parking lots is overlooked, but hugely beneficial.
ok, I'm very impressed, you took this to the next level, I need to learn endo now, I always said i could do without it. Thank you in advance for the future OTB''s and minor to serious injuries I will incur!!!! You the man PHIL!!!
Thank you! Keep doing those bike chats with Gene! You two have a good thing going together with complimentary personalities.
I made videos but had nobody to show them to)

yes been waiting for this! need noob tricks next xD
I have a hardtail and cant wait to try a fullsus and do these tricks. Seems really easier to do it with the rear shocks.
When I do endos I prefer to have my forks locked, if you go to far with them open they can push out and finish tiping you over! lol
That endo 180 to revert in BMX freestyle we called a "Rock Walk". I can still do those on my MTB. Super fun and helps this old guy impress the grommets! ;-P LOL!
Me and my friends used to call the sideways balancing thing the "swag"
@Gatling Inman I and my friends
I'll have another my friends and i
Nose Bonk is one of my favourite tricks of these eazy ones. I haven't seen it any where before and started doing it, so I didn't know how it's called. Now I know, thanks!
revert is a fakie xd good video phil
Going backward is fakie. Switching back is called a revert.
Skills With Phil diden't know that thanks, you shoud do a play list with your dirt jump bike like seth bike hacks did with his bmx
Roko Petrina I'm pretty sure it's impossible to fully revert a mtb, it's more of a 180
+Roko Petrina, I've posted this a few times. A fakie is when you go backwards, a revert is when you switch back. The full name is a fakie revert. These terms originally come from skateboarding.
Skills With Phil the more you know, thanks phil
Man I have no idea how your channel doesn't have more subscribers. Your skill and ability to explain those skills to teach others is great! Keep it up!
I haven't been consistent, which is what I'm working on this year :)
Love the flannel bro
I love flannels! I have one for every day of the week.
lol he means channel but i think you get that
Annoyomite Nah he def meant flannel
More people need to learn to play on their bikes. I like what you're doing!
5:50 it's called " the monk"
I would add manuals, stoppies. Even for beginners just practicing getting the wheels off the ground helps with riding trails. Great VID!
endos can be called stopies aswell
The Explorax A stoppie is a nose manual using the front brake to modulate a la Martyn Ashton.
Nice tutorial. FYI in BMX it's often called a fakie rollout. It's considered good form to rollout the same direction you would spin. Usually if you ride right foot forward you spin left and vice versa. For example if you spin left 180 you would rollout left (or half cab/full cab).
Can you do a video on how to do an endo 180?
leesuper73 , I like the stunt you said good idea
It is some weird seated track stand. I don't think there is a name for it though.
We use to do it on trains to skate parks.
even i can't do a fucking wheelie....
Practice practice practice! And then practice more! I'm going to be trying to stretch my wheelies out this week..
okta deKoweoro noob
new subscriber...just wanted to say I got a new bike last week after not riding for 5 years your videos have Ben very helpful...thanks..fills good to be back on a bike
Do we need 2 suspensions?
OMg Phil, you're good!
I've been working on just manuals and trying to bunny hop and still find it very challenging. Keep it up, great content / tutorials!
Snapchat squad!
+yarince98 first Snapchat squad comment I've seen!
Skills With Phil #snapchatarmy
Day light haha, I thought it was a hair on my screen
The one Legend mee to xDD
Czayoo997 KondzioxD Well, that was intentionally;)
Great progression on how to add on to previously learned skills.
I'm still just as useless as I was before watching this:/
Cool tricks can’t wait to try them
I will ENDO my life doing this
Lol
Gottem
I love these because I get bored doing nothing but wheelies! more!!
my favorite trick is a weeeeeeeleeeeee but i don`t no if its classified as a trick
Stigywig of course it is! I'm gonna work on my wheelies this week!
Practicallly yes, because you need skill to balance it.
True dat
I’ve been trying to perfect my wheelies for a year but I still can’t hold them for any distance longer than 100ft
@Gatling Inman lol this grammar police woman is everywhere😂🤣😂🤣😂
Great video man keep up the good work
Thanks Lewis!
Revert is actually called a fakie
Thats what my friends call it
Count how many times he says endo
Thx Mate, great channel!
So much fun and so many good inputs.
I can't get my back wheel off the ground can anybody help me please please
While driving at a slow speed lean forwards on your handlebars and pull the rear wheel up by pulling the pedals with your feet
Thats how i learned english bunny hops
Edit:Dang i typed the front wheel instead of rear lol
And do it fast
I had the exact same problem, until today. Granted I did not get much hight but I think it will improve with practice. My problem was I could never figure out what to press against with my feet to rase the back, turns out it was the whole body against the bars
jump
Put front brakes on
That was just beautiful to watch.
I can't do any of this I can't lift my bike
Im 10!
Okay I've got a heavy mountain bike and I'm currently 16, I could do all these right?
You should get a tricycle
Mike Angelo Avancena same question same age
Get one when your balls drop
awesome, will practice on a Scott scale. hardtail but I guess it will work
Fantastic video, really interesting to see all these tricks and I will give them a try!
My favorite parking lot trick is known by many names...
scab rip, chug, mmm, chuur, arm twist, etc... ^^
PS - all you'll need is a few cold ones & a buddy or two, to assist ;-)

I'm going to have to give a few of these a try!
Very god vid to learn a few tricks Phil. Grazie!
Riding small cement parking dividers as skinnies. Good practice for the ones in the woods.
the moment when you beat the notifications to the video.... the PHILL SENSE!!... BTW your bike is killer!
Hahah, you're a jedi!
Really cool videos and a good variety of tricks :) keep it up!
I like your channel, keep doing your good work
180 jump. An extension of bunny hop. From a roll unstabalize your steering by a short left hard right (or short right hard left) And then do the bunny hop while looking the direction you need to go. On landing you will need to back pedal because of the forward momentum. Harder version of this is doing it onto an object.
This channel is da best!
video like this really motivate me to take my hardtail out for some tricks!:)
Great vid, mate! I'll start to practice. Endo turn is my fav!
Thanks Phil! I'm going to master reverts. They look fun.
Good luck, have fun out there :)
This to the second video I seen of yours and I’m now subscribed
Nice Video, very good explained. 👌👍
Hey man thanks for such an awesome tutorial bro, you really teach well , happy trails friend
Came back here and realized I can do all of these tricks, accept the pedal kick. I can do the pedal hop though.
4:30 it's called seated trackstand, Fabio Wibmer named it!
Learning to ratchet (pedal kicks I think you called them) will increase your technical climbing ability big time, it’s the same movement, bike stalls while the body weight moves forward, then launch the bike through hard to roll section.
Cool vid, some fun to be had there 😀
Like your narration style Phil.
Wheelie (circle and some other tricks) is my personal favorite trick
Could you do a video about tricks with a dirtjumper!?
I just got one and there really aren't a lot of video's about doing street tricks with them!
Love the videos!
I might, i haven't touched it in a while, I think my DJ feels neglected.
Phil! ever planning on biking the upper peninsula in Michigan? you should totally make the trip!
It's on the bucket list, I've heard great things!
Really nice bike great paint job
Dude your awesome at mountainbiking!
Thanks Matthew!
Skills With Phil how old were you when started mountainbiking
Hey Phil. That's one well made video. Could you possibly tell me what brand your helmet is and how you attached the camera mount.
I think about showing your videos to my mtb extracurricular activities group. They will surely learn a lot.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Malte from Germany
Man, you are so good.
Awesome stuff Phil! Definitely gonna try these :D
Have fun :)
if you look over your shoulder more when reverting you will be able to turn further and make it the full 180 before touching the ground.
Seated Sideways bars Feet on wheels Balance Thing!! You have the same sense as me to name things. I will honor you by also calling it that :D
Love your channel!!! Always play :-)
Hello Phill I Subscribed Your My Best RUclipsr

I Badly need a Mountain Bike😁, On Christmas. I love biking!
