I think a good lesson about plant collecting is that it is not a race. If one is truly into plants you will get them over the course of your life time and not all at once, especially when prices are hyped.
Also it's a horrible idea to get a bunch of new things that need care, that's setting yourself up to fail. If you do it over time your habits can adjust to the new plant care. I see so many you tubers boasting that they got 100+ plants in a year and I'm thinking "so many of them will die! That's such a huge change! 🤭"
I'm actually so tired of the market being overpriced, and the snobby attitude of some Plant collectors. I had one say he doesn't want to deal with people with Common plants.
I had the reverse. My mom wouldn't give me a cutting, because "it's just a common plant and you're into plants now." She brings me this beautiful variegated devil's ivy, tiny and pretty and amazing! It's the only variegated plant I have.

It reverts.?! 😨😫 well, I still love it. I love pink plants & I find this one so sexy! Green in plants it’s too common. That is why I love pink & any other color plant

Im from Germany and you cant go a day without seeing this Plant on Facebook or Instagram.
tbh adansonii is one of the plants where I like the green one more. It’s more visually impactful from a distance cause the focus is on the fenestrations, but the variegated one just looks like a green a white blob unless you look closely at it. Not saying this to be edgy, I honestly love a lot of other popular and variegated plants, but my bank account is thankful I never saw the appeal of that particular one lol
The 1st pic of the Strawberry Shake belongs to my friend. 😂 I have a cutting from THAT plant, and yes, juvenile state looks funny. But, knowing the mother plant looks that awesome, I will patiently wait for it to grow into its full glory. 😂

Eeeeeh I'd disagree. This is not a houseplant, but Physostegia virginiana 'variegata', besides the variegated foliage, has pale pink flowers as opposed to the species plant's bubblegum pink, and it's a lot less blocky when massed. There are plenty of other examples too: Salix intergra 'hakuro nishiki', Aspidistra elatior 'variegata', or Cornus alternifolia 'argentea'.

@@GreyGirl999 tulip mania was in Holland in tge 1630s people were so overhyped about tulips they were selling bulbs for outlandish prices then the tulip bubble popped and people were left with tulips they’d spent thousands on that were virtually worthless.
I agree with you on most of this list. I do think pink princess should've been on this list, haha it is stupidly overhyped, and like the dishwater variegation you mentioned, I think most pink princesses have a dirty or muddy look to them and for the price they're going for right now, I'd rather wait. 1. Paraiso Verde: I agree, I've never liked the variegation (sure, there's a couple leaves where I"m like ooh, nice) but for the most part not worth spending the money for and harder to take care of than jose buono or giganteum variegata which are much prettier in my opinion. 2. Caramel Marble: It's a lovely plant but yes so overpriced and if we were to base it on that, I prefer the golden dragon variegata 3. Strawberry Shake: Yep, juvenile leaves are ugly AF and unfortunately that's the only way you're gonna get a hold of these plants in auctions and sales right now, as small 1-2 leaf cuttings, and apparently it's really slow to grow and root too, so not worth my while 4. Adansonii Variegata: I love this plant, yes it is overpriced and there's a lot in circulation in Europe (don't think so as much anywhere else in the world), but that is due to certain people hoarding on a certain plant shop's restock of them selectively, and those private sellers growing and propagating and trying to make 1-2k on a 1-2 leaf cutting, and that's how it's become a lot more prevalent in UK/EU. Hopefully will go down in price in time. 5. Mint anything: I love mint too but nothing is ever truly mint, and it's honestly down to an individual plant's genetics that, as you said, may push a minty looking leaf every now and again under certain conditions, but it isn't stable. Also the adansonii mint is an Indonesian form I'm pretty sure, and it sells for like $15 there but is going for over $1,000 anywhere else in the world, which makes me suss if it is natural or a virus. 6. Strawberry Ice: there are so many prettier syngoniums as you said. This one just looks like baby's vomit to me, end of. Haha! 7. Ace of Spades: love this plant too but not the price and glad to hear it was in TC so hopefully prices will come down to like EU clarinervium levels in a few years! 8. Black Cardinal Variegata: Haven't seen many of these for sale in EU, not my cup of tea, but I remember seeing a whole batch of variegated philodendron in Asia all being listed over the four-figure mark easily (black cardinal, imperial green variegata etc...) 9. Variegated Tetrasperma: The price of these is shocking, I'd rather get a Spiritus Sancti, thanks! Haha! Hopefully this will also be TC on Thai Constellation levels in the next few years and become more accessible. 10. Cream Splash: There's so many variations of this that I can't keep up now (there's a stripe one too), honestly I prefer my plain old brasil. I would love a big bushy cream splash, but never see any for sale and would hate to see what they go for if a 1-2 leaf cutting sells for about $60.
I could never imagine spending more than triple digits let alone 10000$ on a plant!! These prices are insane, collectors sure have a passion. I couldn't stop staring at it while watching, what's the bushy, marbled plant to the right called? I love how it looks even though its blurred
Thanks, Kaylee! As others have said, your opinion is yours and any opinion is taken with a grain of salt, so to speak....I just enjoy listening to you! I have a “pink syngonium” I bought for 7 USD at a local shop and love it more than paying $$$$ for those special pink ones.
I did put my Florida Ghost under grow light and the new leaf is creamy white. I did a test by blocking a part of the new leaf with another leaf and that part turned light minty. Your statement is 100% true🌿
Had to come to the comments for this. Agree with all others, but the ice is gorgeous. I love the colors, but not for the price. Syngonium is so easy to grow and prop so the price isnt justified
I’ve seen some amazing variegations on the Strawberry Ice and believe they can actually look quite stunning. I do have one myself where the variegations are a bit more subtle but it is still very beautiful.
Agree with you about absolutely everything apart from paraiso verde - I think they're gorgeous 😍 I got mine for like 100 though, don't think I'd pay much more for it. One plant I'd 100% add to this list is the pink princes. 90% of the ones I've seen just look like ugly brown princesses 🤷♀️
Almost all variegated philodendron varieties here in the Philippines are usually pricey and those exact plants you mentioned are all available here, a number of them imported from Thailand but are overhyped their cost could already buy you a car or build a small house in here. Madness!
But the syngonium strawberry ice is sooo gorgeous 😅 I think it's the deep red... mahogany like leaves suddenly having big portions of pink and white that got me addicted to them. They just have such a depth and complexity to their foliage (crumpled yet straight? Colored yet not?) compared to other more 2D-ish syngoniums... I have 3 pots 😅
Your Absolutely right.. Those plants are gorgeous but as of now the prices are unreasonably high.. So, I will wait for the prices to go down.. Which I'm sure they will. 😊😊😊😊😊
I agree with most of these... And it's funny seeing them on purges often and the prices they go for. I can't wait for a syngonium rare plant index and for var. Adasonii to come down. It's still a unicorn for me 🥺
This is an amazing video, thank you! I was hoping to ask about the Tetrasperma varigated! Glad to know your opinion, and they are so over priced and expensive! thank you Miss ellen!
I own the philo brasil, cream splash, silver stripe and rio, and love them all haha. They're just all a tiny bit different from each other, but all beautiful. And they also earn me a little bit of money which is a lovely bonus.
I love my crea splash philo, but I got it as an 6" full pot for $30usd so definitely not complaining! 💛 I wouldn't have spend more than that on it for sure.
I definitely agree... I really love your opinion, it’s just that EH EH! Because There so many uncommon to rare lovely plants out there, but not to pricey, 💚😍💚😍💚

I love these sort of vids from you! I would love a "regret" video! 😊
Thank you for more content Kaylee, I recently included you in my entrepreneurship module assignment, loving see you get back into marantaceae ❤️
Thanks, was considering the Ace of Spades, but I'll hold off for a bit 😉
Honestly, same! I'd love to own one but there's no way they won't start TC again if there's this much demand!
@@KayleeEllenOfficial What does TC mean? I'm kinda new (hi) 😄
@@EchoSappho tissue culture :)
@@bmcrz4342 Thanks! :)
I've never understood the mint... Honestly almost all my variegated plants throw mint when the light isn't bright enough.
Yeah, I can put off school work for another 20 mins! needed thissssss! Love from Canada
Love this video! I remember how I felt when I first got the plant bug 🤪 It’s good to remind people that a lot of this is super over hype-d, right now
I LOVED this! I’ve never been into the pink princess and felt like I haven’t been able to say that without someone jumping down my throat haha
I AGREE. everyone is like "OH WOW LOOK AT THE PINK!!" and I'm like "where....oh...yeah I can sort of see it....???"
I did put my Florida Ghost under grow light and the new leaf is creamy white. I did a test by blocking a part of the new leaf with another leaf and that part turned light minty. Your statement is 100% true🌿
I don't know why, but I love strawberry ice syngonium
Hi! I totally agree with your list! Would totally love to see a vid on plants you regret buying. Thanks for all the great content💚
I cracked up when you flipped upside down. 😂 😂 Great video! Agree with the dirty dish water. Bleh.
Me too!
I think the strawberry ice syn is so beautiful... it’s probably just personal preference! 🤷♀️
Love the strawberry ice too (if it has a nice variegation). It goes from dark red to green and light pink. So beautiful!
I love that muted muddy colour range too!.. just price is a big nono!
Had to come to the comments for this. Agree with all others, but the ice is gorgeous. I love the colors, but not for the price. Syngonium is so easy to grow and prop so the price isnt justified
I actually like it a lot as well! Now would I pay into the triple digits for it?... no
I’ve seen some amazing variegations on the Strawberry Ice and believe they can actually look quite stunning.
Madness!
Nice Exclusive & Expensive plants !
I grew my own variegated adansonii. Beautiful green with crunchy brown. Cost me nothing. Score!
Totally agree! Personally I like the Rio better than the cream stripe and silver stripe but so many people mislabel the latter two as Rios.
Me too. I have Rio and cream. Rio far nicer. 👍
The US market for variegated adansonii isn't anywhere near saturated yet :(
Fab video, I totally agree with you on all of them but the parisdo verde!
I think ‘plants I regret buying in’ would be so interesting! :)
Love the makeup and hair. You are on fleek!!
I would love a Syngonium variety video! I have 4 different ones and I love them.
Kaylee, as always you are spectacular!!! You are always right on target!!
My supplier’s strawberry ice looks like a stunning nebula, that got me really hooked.
I agree on all of these exceeeeeept for the Cream Splash. They're super cute, easy to grow, and aren't difficult to get good levels of variegation.
Would love the see, plants I regret buying video. Love watching your videos! I look forward to them every week
I’ve learned so much from your videos ❤. You rock.
Except from strawberry shake I so absolutely agree! I think syngonium are awesome but strawberry ice? No thank you
At 8:30 I was really looking forward to a pun "a lot of people label these plants as mint tooooo... make a mint" but I got let down 😂
'...but if you think for one second that i'm spending that amount of money on one? NO !" ... riiiiiiiiiiight suuuuuuuuure ;-) cool story bro !
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EARLY
I have a very important question. How do you know if the plant is being TCd?
Same
Always fun watching ur videos ..
I Love the Eye Shadow!!!
It's still a unicorn for me 🥺
Yasss welcome back!! Amaaazing insightful video💚💚💚💚
You are pretty great. Appreciate your honesty.
Plants you regret buying and syngonium index!! This content has great info thank you!!💚💚💚💚💚💚
In my opinion, El Choco Reds are overhyped. 🥱
I think they are absolutely beautiful, but I would never pay that much for them!! I see them in my area for around $300 yikes. I'll wait!!!
I do think they're beautiful, i wouldnt pay the price of them right now though, got mine for 60 pounds
Agreed. Gloriosums satisfy it for me in terms of general leaf shape.
El Choco reds are gorgeous ! But it’s only a plant and not worth $500.
Whoa whoa! 😭
Ok, most of the list - sure. But cream splash... man that's gorgeous! I don't know what it is but I just love it! Will be looking for it now :)
She said “no❤️” and I’m here for it
Knew the caramel marble would be on here. I swear it’s all in the Instagram photography! There’s been some beautiful photos of those and they SOLD me, sis.
But absofuckinlutelynot on that price.
Hi Pam 😊👋
@@GreyGirl999 Hi!!
If that ain't the damn truth. I should not have to give up my kidney on the back market to have a carmel marble.
Shit better do my dishes, vacuum and braid my hair for me at that rate.
Very useful for someone who is willing to choose from a list of rare plants.
