I really like to see old Simplex systems up after all these years. I get really tiered of the Specter Alert BG-12 combos you see in every building, at least in my area.
@@pvh_facp4001yt Them too, but I've been seeing a lot of Advances used to replace old Simplex alarms, like at my first elementary school and my college where they replaced Simplex 4051+4050-80 horn/lights with Advances on adapter plates...
There's a small medical center near our main hospital that was built in the early 90s with a Simplex 4001 system, with those same horn/lights and single-action pulls, but with 2098-9201 photoelectric smoke detectors instead of the rebranded System Sensor ion detectors. Some time back the 4001 panel was replaced with a Simplex 4006, but everything else was left intact. Our main bus terminal was built in 1999 with a Simplex 4005 system with the same electronic horn/strobes and dual-action pulls, along with a couple of those conventional TrueAlarms and more 2098-9201 detectors.
The Gaylord opryland in Nashville has a combination of simplex alarms like this building but except they have the strobe plate versions of the light plates that are featured in this video. They also have a lot of 2903 light plates, some simplex 4903’s, some simplex truealerts and some Spectralert Advance ceiling mount horn strobes
I've said the same thing about my first elementary school, with a Simplex 4010 (originally a 4004, and before that a 2001 or small 4002) tied into the original Simplex 4208 panel. Though to be fair, the 4208 was used as a slave panel for the existing pull stations and heat sensors.
I was thinking the same thing, they had to run wires between the 4001and 4005 anyway. So for a few extra wires they could of used the 4001 as a makeshift FATC for the 4005 system. Cool system tho.
Here is the problem with do that. The 4001 outputs FWR current while the 4005 outputs dc current. The alarms on the 4001 can operate with FWR, but the alarms on the 4005 do not operate well with FWR, as the strobes may flash faster than it should and the horns will sound like they are dying.
There’s a separate 4 floor medical building in Knoxville with a simplex 4002 all floors had simplex 2903-9001s with 9833s and the office had wheelock MTs and idk how old the building is but it was a neat system

When I was in middle school the Simplex panel went into trouble because of a dirty smoke detector. Why is that? And my elementary school's Spectralert Classics were tied into the school's intercom, so the intercom would make a weird noise
A dirty trouble is triggered when a detector is out of its standard sensitivity value. I.e. it has accumulated dust/particulate and needs to be cleaned.
That must be a pain; resetting each panel separately in two different locations when an alarm occurs. I’ve seen this practice of tying panels together when building additions are made but I’ve always wondered why? Is it a cost-saving measure to just install a second panel and wire it with the existing than to just replace the older panel with one that can accept more zones etc?
Not necessarily in every instance. Usually due to the building structure it is sometimes easier and less invasive to just tie the two together. Also customer preference and price plays a role.
13:35 what is the model number of that alarm? My elementary school had that alarm along with 4050s in 90bpm march time. I really wanna know the model number
Simplex used to rebrand numerous companies' smoke detectors, including ESL, Fenwal, Hochiki, Pyrotector, Sentinel, Statitrol, even System Sensor! By the 90s, they eventually settled with Hochiki, to the point where Hochiki's Mexican division now manufactures the stuff Simplex designs and patents themselves!
Here's what this duel system has: Simplex 2901-9838's on Simplex 4903-9001 light plates Simplex 4903-9238's Simplex 4903-9239 Simplex T-Bars Simplex 4001 Simplex 4005 Note: Both panels are on continuous when in full alarm
These don't seem quite as bright. I think these are 9236s. 9238 is 110CD. You would know it was a 9238 if it had an orange triangle, if it isn't a 9238, then it is a speaker version, the 9144, which in this case they aren't. It may be a 9237, which is 30CD, but I don't think so, because that would have a blue circle. If you see a simplex 4903, pay close attention to the candela indicator.

It’s all in house software maintained by corporate.

Is this system set up so the alarms always turn off when the smoke detectors no longer detect smoke, or is it a special test mode?
walk test

Did the elevator recall and go into Phase 1??
This reminds me of my old elementary school it had all 9838's it was loud as hell
They do sound great but they would have sounded more great on march time
why is it on some of the detectors the alarms only sounded once and not twice like at the beginning???
Depends on what zones were activated.

This allows each device on the system to be tested solo without the need for a manual reset at the FACP each time a device is tripped.

Hi safetech.I am interested in this:What do you spray to smoke detectors after you test them?
The stuff that he sprays is compressed air into the smoke detectors. It forces the fake smoke out of the detectors.
Why do you have to reset both panels
It might put the system in alarm instead of walk test.
